Let's talk about Stream and buy mountains of games
I thought we might like to have a Steam offers catch-all thread, and maybe even any general discussion about the service.
Like many of us here I have been using Steam since it first appeared with Half Life 2. Initially it seemed pointless and intrusive, but we put up with it because, well, we needed to play CS:S and HL2. Over the years I have found myself buying more and more from Steam and now I pretty much exclusively buy my games there. In fact Valve have so got their model sorted that I would pay a few dollars more for the ease of having it in my Steam collection rather than the hassle of hard copy install.
This is not really necessary though since these days if you wait around for offers you can end up owning more than you can ever play. I have Batman, Far Cry 2, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, Torchlight and much more just half played or not played at all. All of these have been purchased at a reduced rate.
Anyway rather than waffle on further the reason I started this thread is to point out
--->
Left 4 Dead was my game of 2008 but I had enough other stuff to play and was a bit pissed off that they released 2 so quickly afterwards that I didn't buy it at full price. Now I am immediately picking it up. Sadly for you hardened players you can expect a wave of n00bs to arrive due to this deal.
That is all, feel free to add any good Steam offers as and when they appear to this thread and also to discuss the Steam service in general.
Anybody here play Egg yet?
I just started playing Salt & Sanctuary last weekend. First Souls type game I've played.
Personally I don't like using mods that alter gameplay. The only StS one that looks interesting to me is the one that Baalorlord uses in his videos that lets you color code the paths. Incidentally he's awesome to watch and helped me unlock a bunch of cheevos.
Finally beat the Balatro demo by leveling up Full Houses to like level 7 (Planet cards are the best imo) and combined with that X3 multi joker if you use all the suits let me get some yuge scores. Also finding out you can rearrange the joke
I've not played with mods, but I'm the same way -- the map colouring mod Baalor uses seems really nice. I also don't like to tweak gameplay, I guess I'm a purist in the sense I want to play the base game the way it was made by the devs. Right or wrong.
I discovered Baalor too and he's been quite helpful to get the hang of each character.
FF7 Rebirth Demo anyone!?
damn ff7 rebirth is going to be game of the year imo
What's the difference between all the FF7s? I'm a Final Fantasy newb. I figured they just went up in higher numbers...
I think I have FF7 Crisis Core and FF7 The Zodiac Age, maybe another one too
A 4k monitor is only good if you can actually render games at that resolution at a satisfactory framerate.
It depends greatly on your personal preference and what you play, but of the two, if I were picking for myself, I would go with the LG.

So the plan is to have my PC and PS5 (when I get it) hooked up to the monitor.
I thought PS5 games were in 4k, but I know my PC doesn't support 4k graphics.
In the little research I did last night, it does sound like refresh rate is a little more important than resolution so it does sound like the LG is the way to go.
Doki Doki Free on epic. Some people love that game
On the topic of free games - HoloCure - Save the Fans!
It's an unofficial game made by fans of Hololive. I don't know what Hololive is, and I don't 'get' the Japanese weeb stuff at all. It put me off at first, but it's free and the reviews were insane, so gave it a try.
I am addicted to Vampire Survivor, and similar games, and this is easily one of the best (well, most addictive) I've played, potentially even better than the original.
It's crap graphics, a bunch of creepy schoolgirl(?) characters, and probably a load of in-jokes that will never land, but great gameplay, creativity and progression.
One more run...
Sounds like the free version on epic spoils it a bit more than the original probably for those reasons.
Haven't confirmed that though.
Picking up the PS5 and went with this DELL for my monitor.
Still been jamming an insane amount of Spire.
But I likely will jump into Balatro next week.
I can't stop playing Tarkov these days - I tried it about a year ago and just couldn't deal with how complex and frustrating it was, but I tried it again a few weeks ago and I guess they must've done a lot of work on QoL and UI lately because it seems a lot more accessible now.
It's still brutally difficult and complex, but it in a more fun way. I have not enjoyed a game I'm really terrible at this much since Spelunky 2.
The "just one more raid..."-vibe is irresistible.
Balatro is a must-buy for anyone on this forum who likes roguelike games.
I know I’m late to the party, but Dave the Diver and Lacuna are both fantastic games.
I'm waiting on DTD to get on a good sale, but I'll definitely get it.
Still hooked on StS. But I need to get more into Balatro.
Initial impressions of Rebirth
It's HUGE! I think I spent close to 4 hours in Kalm alone just walking around and playing the card game. Combat is really fun as is just exploring the open world and collecting materials.
The one minor nitpick I have actually goes back to Remake and that's 95% of the graphics are some of the best I've ever seen, but then in some places the textures look godawful and very flat.
I thought this would've been fixed on the PS5, but I guess not.
Wow, a new much better implementation of Family sharing! Family members can now play different games from one account. (I hope I'm reading that right)

That's cool. Surprised they've been able to get pubs/devs on board with this.
I'm sure the 1 year waiting period to move to a different family and max of 6 people was from developer pushback.
