Winter of Our Disco Tent: Lounge LC Thread

The season is upon us like it is every year. Count your blessings, celebrate, and be nice.

That goes for you, too, Zeno.

true, but as long as Steve Lukather and David Paich are still in the band, it's Toto.

Used to see Allman Brothers Band on Hotel Casino marques in LV, and I think we ran out of actual Allman brothers awhile ago

Came across this sentence:

"We want to make sure that these communities aren’t continuing to be invisibilized and forgotten,” she says.

I think we all agree that one of the great beauties of the English language is that any word can be verbalized.

Invisiblized? Never heard that word before but I think I am about to invisilabize some beer!

I will virtually join you.

hard not to see invisibilized as one of the most grammar radically correct phrases of the early 21st century

Brilliant film, rife with innuendo. Connecticut is like the forest of Arden in Shakespeare where people change. I love teaching the film because I can bring out all the ribald humor. We understand the double entendres even if the couple don't.

Check out Katharine Hepburn's golf swing.

I got round to watching it, but the innuendo was lost on me. But I had distractions. And they all talked so fast. I'm not sure I've seen anyone talk so fast as Katharine Hepburn in that film.

Slapstick romcoms.

Speed talking is the hallmark of screwball comedy.

"My bone. It's precious."

Miss Swallow?

"I think this one (the bone) belongs in the tail.

Nonsense. You tried it in the tail yesterday."

I have a close group of friends and colleagues who get together to celebrate our birthdays. Tonight I'm taking out one of our department chairs. I helped her get acclimated to the job when she started about seven years ago. We try not to talk about work, but I time her to see how long it takes for her to call one of our coworkers a mother****er.

I enjoy these old-fashioned rituals.

when were you first inspired to become a long-con assassin?

when were you first inspired to become a long-con assassin?

I would ascribe it to my subtle charms, but no one I know would believe that.

BTW, "inspire" comes from the Latin meaning "to breathe into." Like the breath of God.

suggest also describing it as your supple karma, but no one i believe knowing would
wrap their head and lungs around that aura
or find it pliable at all

She held out for nearly two hours before calling someone a mother****er.

It wasn't me.

I almost never drink anymore, but let me tell you- cherry vanilla bourbon is the worst **** I've ever had. Not only does it taste awful, but there is a fakeness about it. Life is bitter, bourbon should be strong with a strong bite, just like life. This is kool-aid. Can't believe I spent almost $40 on this bottle. Everyone, have a nice day.

Flavored booze has gotten out of hand. I remember when booze (and beer) only came in one flavor and everybody was okay with it. I know liquor stores vary greatly across the country but here in Chacagoland we have huge supermarket style liquor stores and you get 2 full aisles of vodka and 2 more of bourbon just to facilite all the brands and flavors. And don't get me started on the beer aisles. Row after row after row of craft goat piss at 10 to 20
dollars a sixer. No thanks gimme a case of good ole USA domestic for the same price.

Anyway its Friday, choose your weapon carefully and drink up!

To the Dandelion

James Russell Lowell

Dear common flower, that grow’st beside the way,
Fringing the dusty road with harmless gold,
First pledge of blithesome May,
Which children pluck, and full of pride, uphold,
High-hearted buccaneers, o’erjoyed that they
Eldorado in the grass have found,
Which not the rich earth’s ample round
May match in wealth, thou art more dear to me
Than all the prouder summer-blooms may be.

Gold such as thine ne’er drew the Spanish prow
Through the primeval hush of Indian seas,
Nor wrinkled the lean brow
Of age, to rob the lover’s heart of ease;
’Tis the Spring’s largess, which she scatters now
To rich and poor alike, with lavish hand,
Though most heart never understand
To take it at God’s value, but pass by
The offered wealth with unrewarded eye.

Thou art my tropics and mine Italy;
To look at thee unlocks a warmer clime;
The eyes thou givest me
Are in the heart, and heed not space or time:
Not in mid June the golden-cuirassed bee
Feels a more summer-like warm ravishment
In the white lily’s breezy tent,
His fragrant Sybaris, than I, when first
From the dark green thy yellow circles burst.

Then think I of deep shadows on the grass,
Of meadows where in sun the cattle graze,
Where, as the breezes pass,
The gleaming rushes lean a thousand ways,
Of leaves that slumber in a cloud mass,
Or whiten in the wind, of waters blue
That from the distance sparkle through
Some woodland gap, and of a sky above,
Where one white cloud like a stray lamb doth move.

My childhood’s earliest thoughts are linked with thee;
The sight of thee calls back the robin’s song,
Who, from the dark old tree
Beside the door, sang clearly all day long,
And I, secure in childish piety,
Listened as if I heard an angel sing
With news from heaven, which he could bring
Fresh every day to my untainted ears
When birds and flowers and I were happy peers.

How like a prodigal doth nature seem,
When thou, for all thy gold, so common art!
Thou teachest me to deem
More sacredly of every human heart,
Since each reflects in joy its scanty gleam
Of heaven, and could some wondrous secret show,
Did we but pay the love we owe,
And with a child’s undoubting wisdom look
On all these living pages of God’s book.

On flavored booze: I do like peanut butter martinis.

Now flavored coffee. That's the real abomination.
