I wonder how much is that they're not worried about the coming NYC-area competition because they think they'll *be* that competition. NYC-area poker is still a ways off, but if they're not getting Borgata into shape *now*, they're not going to be ready when the hit comes, and then it'll be too late.
Yes!
While NYC poker is several YEARS away (and there is a separate thread about this), once NYC poker happens it's GUARANTEED that Borgata will take a very serious hit. Perhaps even close the room altogether!

There’s no chance the room will close, but surely if and when NYC gets live poker. The Atlantic City market will take a huge dive.

Does anyone know if they will tier match anymore? When I went in January they told me I could tier match until February 1st because something is possibly changing with their system so they didn't know if tier matching will still be a thing starting this month.
+1
All I've seen was their Hyatt & Marriott change announcements.
Anybody try match their Caesar diamond+ with MGM at Borgata this month?
Borgata isn't going to close, they still got a **** ton of Jersey locals playing there. I could see some smaller rooms being shut down though.
Parx, on the other hand, will get absolutely destroyed

Well, not the casino itself obviously. I could see a reality in which the Borgata Poker room no longer exists, but I agree it's unlikely. I think a big downsizing is much more likely, and I would even guess might happen once there are NYC poker rooms.
The NYC rooms, if they happen and I have no reason to believe they won't happen, will put a huge dent in both Borgata and Parx. I would have said Wind Creek in the past, but the current bus situation is so much worse than what it used to be, I don't think a ton of people from the city go there anymore despite it being the 2nd closest casino to Manhattan. Live and Rivers seem like more locals than NYC'ers.

It will be the nail in the coffin for Mohegan sun and Foxwoods in CT also…
All these places will be suffering once NYC opens.
I go to parx and Foxwoods and I probably won’t be frequenting (once NYC opens) either place unless it’s on the way to a vacation. So cape cod I’d go to Foxwoods and DC I’d go to parx as a pit stop. But on a daily basis I will be going to empire city.
Borgata and Foxwoods have both only gotten worse w each new casino.
There’s a counter argument that poker is poker so if you’re playing 1-2nl it’s not going to matter much and people will just play local.
But 2-5nl (and up) and PLO will suffer bc the player pools will be bifurcated.
The hay day for live poker was when our only options were Vegas AC and Foxwoods.

Couldn’t agree with this more, if you’re playing 1/2 and 1/3 it won’t matter. Same being said for the person who said windcreek will suffer, probably not. That room is full of locals trying to hit a high hand.

The NYC casinos are going to have a huge impact on all of the Northeast casinos, but Borgata might actually not suffer as much at least in the short term. NYC is going to take 30% or more out of AC's business. I wouldn't be surprised at all if 5-10 years after NYC opens, only Borgata, Ocean, Hard Rock, Harrahs, and Golden Nugget are left. But that means what's left of the AC business is consolidated into those casinos. The two bigger threats/imminent downsides for Borgata poker in my mind are MGM continuing to cut costs at the expense of running a quality room, and AC losing even more of the vacation/party crowd. There's already way less people stumbling out of Premier to dump money at the tables then years past, and at some point the local whales may get frustrated playing against mostly each other and the supernit crowd.
The big questions on the NYC casinos that remain to be answered that will have a huge impact on how Northeast poker is impacted:
- Will all or any of the NYC casinos have poker? (probably)
- Where will they be located and what will the parking situation be? (If they're all in the city, Yonkers and north east Queens or Long Island then North Jersey, Staten Island, even southern Brooklyn players may still prefer Parx/Borgata.)
- What will the low stakes rake be? (MGM Boston has 10% capped at 10+2, there's probably a non-negligible chance the rake in NYC will be that or worse.)
I think saying poker is poker and if you play 1/2 or 1/3 it won't make a difference people will just play poker is understating the impact to a degree. For nits who are looking to pass the time more than anything else sure, but the quality of those games will go down.
I'm just really praying that the NYC rooms wind up the way they could logically. In most of my conversations with people from Jersey and Philly, I think they way under-estimate the amount of money in NYC, and specifically some of the demographics/player types holding that money. The games have the opportunity to be insane, and specifically compared to the current state of Borgata and Parx, they have the opportunity to run like that every day, every season.

Borgata won't close but they'll lose a lot of business. And half the casinos in AC probably will close.
The Borgata built their poker room during the boom when no casinos were anywhere near AC. If they built it today it would probably be half the size it is now. There are a lot of times even on a Friday or Saturday night they only have 30 or so tables running.

I'm looking forward to the day when I start getting emails from Borgata begging me to return....offering me free rooms....food... drugs... women.... just please come back! ;-)
Since when does Borgata/MGM not reciprocate Caesars rewards level? They used to give you a tier bump based on your Caesars rating (as recently as last year), but it sounds like that is no longer the case. What gives?
It started last year. Last year, you were only tier matched for 3 months. Previously it was for the whole year
How long does it usually take for tier credits to update? I guess it doesn’t matter because I’m not gonna get to a tier that gets me anything, but I’m pretty sure my credits haven’t updated from the past two weekends
Is there any Big O games there?
How about big bet (pot limit) mix?
If you are referring to the regular Saturday morning game, it's typically 25/25 half NL, half PLO.
No. I’m looking to play mix game. Big bet. Things like 7 stud pot limit. 2-7 tripple draw pot limit. 2-7 lowball no limit. Very crazy pineapple (discard on turn) pot limit. All at the same table. 7-8 hands of each then move onto next game.

You’re in the wrong part of America if you’re looking for those games
20/40 mix at mgmnh can include all those games. Otherwise, you can go to to Florida/gulf coast to get that type of action.
Do you no longer get tier credits for poker??? It seems like the last dump was at the end of January and that was for play at the end of December and part of January!
I haven't seen anything for the rest of January or February's play yet!
Anyone else notice this?
