Icon of the Seas - Guesstimania Reveal

Better late than never:

The Icon of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in history.

How big is it?

Let's guess:

1. Number of decks?
2. Gross tonnage?
3. Length in metres?
4. Top speed in knots?
5. Maximum passenger capacity?
6. Number of crew working the ship?
7. Number of water slides on board?
8. Cost in USD?

Don't get me wrong, it looks big, but not really world biggest.

Doesn't help that the paint job on the side isn't even the same colour throughout.

1. Number of decks?

Assuming that each deck has to be at least 6 feet tall then someone here guessed a number of decks that would make the ship taller than the Empire State Building.

2. Gross tonnage?

About a quarter of a million tonnes is a lot I guess, I don't really have a frame of reference for weights that large.

kid stuff

reveal is on pause

back later

Here here

I honestly had no idea.

Is a car like 3-6 tonnes?

I honestly had no idea.

If I had a dollar for every time I said that while compiling my entry, I'd have enough for dinner. With drinks. Before embarking.

😮

holy ****ing hell!! I was making a very wild guess lol.. wow

like I thought it could be anywhere from like 10k to 10 million lol

instead of icon of the seas, they should name it "whale killer" or "planet killer"

Back for a bit

After 2 questions:

3. Length in metres?

For reference the Titanic was 269m and this boat is about 3 and a half football pitches long

4. Top speed in knots?

Is a knot like a mph on water? I'd not be guessing a big number for this one. Big ship gonna be slow.

I just did an online converter and D1iab's guess works out to be 138mph

lol.. the ones I have an actual idea of their range, I get wrong, and the one I'm wildly guessing I get right

At the halfway point:

I like imagining a ship with all the biggest guesses, so it's taller than the empire state building, and 1000 meters longs, and goes 140 mph

5. Maximum passenger capacity?

I think I'd be way off with this one. Probably going for 20,000 and concerned if my answer was too low. 4 people per cabin. 5000 cabins seems reasonable.

Then I look up the largest hotels in the world and 5000 cabins would put it 6th in the world and my answer would be ridiculous.

we should totally make a list of the HMS Guesstimania stats once we're done.

6. Number of crew working the ship?

So in reality there are roughly 3 guests per crew member. Let's compare to the previous answers and look up some extreme suggestions:

D1iab - 100 guests per crew member
Doctor Zeus - 2 guests per crew member

I know which theoretical ship I'd rather be on

75% of the way done

I'm starting to get the feeling that D1iab isn't an expert on cruise ships

Gonna take another little break here.

I know there are only 2 questions left, but these games are more effort to run.

Gonna put the kids to bed, have some food and then aim to knock out the rest of this before bed.

I guesstimated 5 guest per crew. would've been nearly spot on if i guessed 3 per.

6900 / 3 = 2300

failed on my divisor guesstimate to guesstimate the answer based on my other guesstimated answer.

damn aaronk is beasting this!

100 guests per 1 crew!!!!! lol!
