I read an article this week that said the 40 was mostly irrelevant from an evaluation perspective with so much other data available but a lot of participants focus on it anyway because it gets them TV time = money.

it can't match the Bench Press for ridiculousness though.

At best it's the 5th most important lift for football and then measuring strength by number of repetitions of less than 40-60% of 1RM is lolworthy

Maybe Hartman can get on the Mahomes/Polamalu H&S deal?

If Tweet doesn't show:

RIP Chris Mortensen :(

If they don't draft Bryce Young there's a very good chance they can't pick Caleb Williams this year because they probably wouldn't have gotten the first pick.

I've been busy today, but Jason Kelce just retired for an hour?

Did he already unretire? Only saw his retirement announcement.

Source: Jags release DT Folorunso Fatukasi on his birthday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Happy Birthday! Now find a new job.

That's what happened to Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi on Monday. The team's official X account wished him a Happy Birthday in the morning. Several hours later the team released him, a league source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

$85m dead cap hit as Broncos release Russ

The trade and subsequent deal must surely go down as one of the worst of all time

It is a lot of dead cap space over the next two years, but it is still costs them less cap space than if they had kept him.

Cutting him before his 2025 salary became guaranteed is obviously the main reason for doing it now though.

also Mike Evans 2/52-35

A little sad for him that he didn’t choose to go to a contender for a few years but he’s obviously happy and settled in Tampa.

I kind of root for Baker Mayfield too for reasons I can’t fully understand, so I hope this gets him decent $$ to stay there as well

a final time then

FO malpractice of the highest order

A little sad for him that he didn’t choose to go to a contender for a few years but he’s obviously happy and settled in Tampa.

Based on the initial reports that he was looking for a 3 year deal with guaranteed money in the third year they probably figured out early there wasn't a market for him under those terms, let alone with a contender.

Couple days ago he said he wasn't interested in playing with a rookie QB. Must mean a deal for Baker is imminent.

yeah. Although that can all be agent posturing for leverage with the Bucs

You’d think he’d have found a top 8 team prepared to give him something similar-ish to this…2-40 or sth at least. (Here I am giving away $12m as ‘similar’). But he must be relatively happy life wise down there too and there will also be a good $$ value once retired in being a one team player in a market like that without too many long term stars from the past 20 years

I guess we'll see once the structure is released like when/if the second year becomes fully guaranteed. Spotrac had estimated multiple teams would offer him in the 3/75/50 range.

Some of the people in the photograph are smiling just as bigly now as they were then. Can you pick them out?

iirc it’s 35m g so you’d think it will need to be a career threatening injury for him not to see the second year

If it would be "only" a $9mil cap hit instead of $26mil, I think there's scenarios. But no idea how it's structured. The old contract had void years that would have kicked in if they didn't extend him now.

Its difficult getting into a someone's mind to figure why the player did this or that.

Understanding a bit of Evan's journey it seems consistent to me he would stay at TB. The fans love him, he won a SB there, and he and Baker combined for the best season of Evan's career. He probably is friends with many people there, and absent another SB ring chance he probably thought why burn those bridges (even tho I'm sure many of those friends would understand, now they think even more highly of him in staying).

all that, plus a wife and 3 young kids. As someone who was in the same boat 10 years ago (well…still am but they’re older), I’m certain if she had a vote she wouldn’t want to leave the social and family infrastructure they’ve got there.

I saw the video on youtube.. clicked on it. He immediatly starts crying and says "oh boy this will long" clicked off it. No interest in watching a man cry for 5 min let alone some long crying session.
Maybe he coulda been laughin tell some cool stories... I aint watching that mess. Control yourself.

Cousins to ATL chatter perculating

My favorite part of the Russ situation is that he won’t play one game on the extension the Broncos gave him.

Maybe a hot take, but I think Russ could be decent in somewhere like Atlanta. Sounds like they want an experienced QB, so if Kirk doesn’t work out, signing Russ wouldn’t surprise me. Would be funny if Kirk goes Atl and Russ goes Minn.

Pittsburgh could be interesting too, but that division is rough.

Him and Payton were doomed from day one, regardless of Russ’s current abilities.

is it not obvious the broncos are laundering money?

It’s just a rollback to them.
