Tom Dwan - the missing man

Tom Dwan - the missing man

How convenient is it that he just falls off the face of the earth after issuing and bailing half way through a 50k hand challenge when he goes down over a million dollars?

He come out a year or so ago and said that he has this "big" problem with FTP that he would address once he had a decent nights sleep, what ever happened here?

He agreed to pay penalties on a monthly basis for not playing an agreed amount of hands with jungle, did cates ever receive any of the penalty money? I think it's about time the community got some answers. There was a lot of money placed on the outcome of the match which never got resolved, as you can imagine anyone who took jungle's side must be pretty aggrieved.

Ike and Justin bonomo was both judges along with Ivey being escrow, from what I remember Ivey wanted nothing to do with any of the decision making after dwan went AWOL which lead to phil sending jungle his 500k back. What's the point of having judges in any bet if they can't actually enforce any rulings?

If anyone else had bailed on a bet of this size when he should have escrowed the 1.5million it would be a much bigger deal.

To add to that he's listed to play in the 500k super high roller at the aria

Jetten just owns him here, no reply from Dwan.

Tom throwing word salads together to try to justify his shitty behavior is just making it 10x worse. He would be doing himself a favor by deleting twitter.

Those illiterate ramblings and blackmail attempts were a pretty weak defense. He makes Doug Polk look like a PR genius by comparison.

He's saying that Bob bet on the NBA while under contract working with the NBA. This is one of the only infractions in professional sports that they actually seem to take seriously. You can't bet on sports when you're involved in a league as a professional because of the optics and because you have access to private information. I don't think an NFL player can bet on the NBA or anything like that either so it isn't just NBA can't bet NBA, it's professional sports employees can't bet on sports.

I get that bit (seems like a shitty thing to bring up btw and unrelated to owing $$$) , its the second part Im struggling to work out.

Like Bob caused him to be at risk with the law or something, would love more detail on what he is on about

Tom literally just deflecting and avoiding the issue, grasping at straws trying to make his critics look bad by any means necessary.

Doug has already so much material that instead of a investigation podcast his meme master should create some hit video out of this.

why does durrr tweet like an ESL

a completely useless interview that gives no information on the debts, whatsoever. in fact, i learned nothing aside from the fact that he's spent a lot of time in London recently playing in great games and losing.

Negative impacts of gambling brain, watch a Billy Walters interview and you will see him stumble on lots of simple stuff too. To experience it yourself, play a 20+ hour live poker session and then type up a 700 word opinion piece on the topic of your choice without AI assistance, including turning spell check off.

A part of making a bet is making sure that you're opponent can pay.

If Tom owes money to Peter Jetten, Dan Gates and Haralabos Voulgaris and is not paying it's their own fault for not doing their homework.

It was obvious Tom could go broke at any moment.

Caveat Emptor.

Ohhh Tom owes me money. I'm going to call him out on Twitter. Tom is an immoral man.

Lol what a joke. Cry harder.

If I was Tom I wouldn't pay them a cent.

Yeah but durrr is defending himself against serious allegations, he could at least consult with a PR firm of some kind and provide a prepared statement. The fact that he has welched on the jungle challenge this long means a meaningful statement/explanation is long overdue. He's basically acting in a manner which is unexplainable other than some combination of mental illness, scamming, indentured servitude, degenerate gambling, extreme shadiness, blackmail, etc. And the best he can do is tweet some incoherent gibberish in like 10 years or whatever which was a clear attempt at deflection, blackmail, intimidation, excuse-making, etc. The guy is so off the wagon it's amazing he just got an ACR sponsorship and still playing televised games. Obviously it goes to show the ethics of the community are a joke, and I think it's fair criticism for guys like Galfond to still be friendly with him that it's enabling his bad behavior. He has time to make annoying hand reviews and shows text messages between them where durr explains his thought process, but doesn't really acknowledge there are serious allegations about this guy and the video is all honky dory.

I assume this is trolling, but terrible take if not.

Dwan is a trustworthy man with an amazing ability to put pen to paper with some of the most eloquent PR statements ever made, and then followed it up with a slam dunk of an interview, completely disproving all allegations.

Why would it be a troll.

Only a moron would make a 6 figure bet, without having a third party hold the bet in escrow.

Why would it be a troll.

I mean the only kind of person who would legitimately hold such a view would be an actual sociopath, so probably safer to assume you're just behaving like a clown for kicks instead of truly being completely devoid of morality or empathy

Billy Walters is 77 years old. He also grew up poor in podunk Kentucky and it's clear that despite being very intelligent, never developed a strong vocabulary/verbal fluidity.

Dwan is putting no effort/thought into these debts. This podcast/twitter outing isn't going to change that. Unless people are in a corporate environment or concerned about the public image they don't put much effort into twitter grammar. Gambling doesn't change who you are or how you carry yourself or make you forget how to form a sentence. Dwan is in an informal world and a PR statement doesn't do anything special because the only people who care to read it are people from that informal world (poker).

Idk who Peter Jetten is and Bob is basically an outsider whale (of not much use because he tries to play well) in poker. Dwan doesn't really have to pay attention to them regardless of what avenue they choose to pursue. Legal action doesn't do anything for gambling debts, and again they really need Dwan gambling in order to have a chance at getting paid back. If Dwan has the $ and is just not paying, then hounding him in person is really the only avenue they can pursue.

If I owe 25k and the guy is showing up to my games and places of work and making noise and hassling me, I or someone else invested in my success is going to pay or make some arrangement to make them go away just to secure the ambience. Tweeting and podcasting does nothing, it's just food for us fishes to snack on while we wait for the next HCL scandal to break.

Ok I got a little from that interview, basically Dwan doesnt think he owes all 3 debtors the full amount and is open to arbitration but all debtors are like, no, you owe us.

Seems like a bit of a stalemate.

Durrr has always been an idiot savant. He’s had a typo in his Twitter bio for 15 years unless he recently changed it, “sporadicly” lol

Gambling takes a toll on the mind no matter your background, that’s one of the big reasons Dwan writes so poorly and imo why his cognitive abilities away from the poker table are so, so bad.

Peter Jetten aka Apathy was good friends with Dwan during the boom and both were in the Ship It Holla Balla crew, that’s the entire angle of story: Dwan scams his opponents (Jungle) his business partners (Haralabob) and his friends (Jetten).

Disagreement on debt in the hundreds of thousands of dollars is not scamming. We don't know anything beyond 2 people have said Dwan owes them money and Dwan never denied that just what the exact number is and how they are going about it when the conclusion is in doubt.

If you can't trust yourself not to eat a piece of chocolate cake, then how can you ever trust anybody else.

Just from the way Tom writes its clear that he is a moron. Imagine writing like an elementary schooler whos private texting his friends, when you are discussing hundreds and millions of dollars of debt in public.
