MGM Springfield (Springfield, MA)
It opened up today. Poker room is beautiful. More to come!
Some fun Button straddle hands I saw from yesterday
5 limps to Button straddle who rips it for $200, everyone folds, he shows K♠8♠
Different guy Button straddles, 4 limps, I limp A♦8♦ in CO, Button jams for $120, folds back to me, I think for maybe 20 seconds before Button says "I'll give you action!" and turns up a 6♦
Ofc I call, board runs out JJ25T, Button then turns over K♠, MHIG
How often does 5/10 run here? And can they legally run 5 card Omaha in this room? I’ve seen 10/25 go off weekly for a while but I think 5/10 is more up alley. Only seen 5/10 run maybe once of the 20+ times I’ve played here. 2/5 is the biggest game 95% of the time I’m there sigh. Would be nice if they can regularly get 5/10 on Friday & Saturday maybe I’d make the drive if it’s the games are semi fishy. Closest I ever got to playing 5/10 here was some 2/5 fish said he was willing to play 5/10 and we started a list, 7-8 other regs locked up seats and we all stared at each other for 10 minutes waiting for the fish to show back up and then we all gave up and went back to our respective 2/5 & 1/2 games lol

5/10 tends to run on Wednesdays now instead of the 10/25. Ymmv
5/10 is the "Feature Game" on Mondays according to Bravo
1-1,000,000 chance I’m ever there on a Monday lol. Weekend warrior here. Occasional Friday. Never seen 5-10+ weekend.
yeah there's always two 2-5s there. 10-25 is random popup middle of week. i'm not a local just a weekend warrior. 5-10 would be my sweet spot. will probably start showing up every other weekend around april/may so would be cool if that game was available fri/sat/sun
The rake/jackpot has gone up to $6+$3
yeah was there this weekend and couldn't believe that everyone at the table was onboard with it because "but we make money on the promos" type of fish logic
also couldn't believe some of the behavior i witnessed
one guy was telling new people to the table they needed to tip the dealer a redbird when they sat down - which is just stupid because it sets it off as an awkward spot and makes what should be a friendly environment a contentious one - was really surprised the dealer/table didn't try to shut that down
another group of friends were openly ridiculing and discussing the terrible play of the table fish as if he wasn't there - just couldn't believe they were doing that but then i couldn't reprimand them without myself talking about how the guy was a fish
another guy busted out, stood up and started coaching his buddy, nobody really cared or said anything about it but then despite that nobody had said anything, he tried making a point of it being ok because he wasn't doing it mid hand - again not a big deal, nobody cares, but you can't be coached mid session much the same way you can't have be consulting charts in between hands - really surprised the dealer didn't step in and say something - i've seen people get coaching in between hands by some dude standing behind them at other casinos in the past and the dealer always tells them not to do it and calls the floor if they persist - again, neither i nor anyone else cared, but found it odd the management wasn't about putting a stop to it, especially since the guy doing it was bringing full attention to the fact that he was doing it by announcing repeatedly for no reason that what he was doing was ok
bathroom floor was sticky all day - disgusting, when i told the staff in hopes they'd clean it up, they seemed to think that was funny
hadn't been in over a year and was a very different dynamic from when i went before, the average player skill seemed to be a lot better than the terribad in the past and it was way more bro heavy where groups of friends all sat together and showed their cards to their buddies who had folded out
i usually went on weekdays before though, this was my first weekend adventure so possibly just different crowds and/or maybe under new management?
Do they have boxes (or keep money on account)? Do they have valet now? I'd play the 5/10-10/25nl games but can't imagine carrying around a bunch of money there is a very smart idea.

this is the direct line for the poker room, best to ask them directly
if you're talking about valet parking, i did see a bunch of signs for that but too much of a cheap bastard to investigate (used to do street parking just because i assumed garage would be charged but wouldn't make that same mistake again even if i didn't discover garage was free parking) - just way too many shady people loitering around the casino
every time i'm in springfield, i'm very conscious about reminding myself to lock the car doors

good to call half hour out from arrival to get on the list, never once had to wait doing that and was always at the very top when i got there
that's the poker room number above fyi, added a valet thing in an edit in an odd spot, hence the weird formatting

the best way to 'reprimand' these idiots is to simply say "hey can we just let him lose in peace?" it doesn't call the guy a fish and gets the point across

Thx, yeah Springfield not the best area. I'm surprised there aren't more issues that occur.
Didn’t someone get robbed & killed in the parking lot like within the first week of them opening?
The garage is a nightmare tonight…
I’ve been sitting on level 6 for an hour and 15 minutes… no one is moving
There are two more levels
I just want to say that I've been to this room twice and both times some sketchy **** has been attempted on me outside the room. It's a shame because I have no desire to go back but the room is slightly closer than Mohegan/FW. I have nothing against the room itself, just the property.
First time was several years ago. Was smoking a cigarette in the outdoor pavilion area, and some lady came up to me and said "you better watch your back white boy, they'll follow you home up here!" Not exactly pleasant. Not really an earth shattering revelation either, given Springfield's rep.
Second time (about a month ago) I was getting money at the ATM near the opposite corner of the poker room. Some Haitian dude walks up to me with his wallet out and instructs me that he has "something to show me" and that I should follow him down this corridor to exit off the premises. There were three security guards right there that did nothing. Obviously I told him I wasn't going to do that but I have no doubt he was trying to size me up and pull some **** on me.
I'm 32, 6'0, 210 lbs and athletic looking too, so it's not like I'm some little dweeb that looks like a mark. Just keep your head on a swivel in that place once you leave the poker room. Could just be bad luck, but I lived in Philly and went to Sugarhouse/Rivers dozens of times without any confrontation over the years. Philly is just as bad as Springfield and 10x the size.
I’ve never had any issues. But I’m 6’6 heh. But pretty sure someone got killed in parking lot opening week. Plus there was someone who got shot and died few months ago after starting a ruckus in Mgm. Then I heard a story and saw photo from a reg about someone who had their pistol confiscated from police at the main entrance of Mgm. Soon as you go like 1/2 a block away you’ll see a homeless person or three begging. Sketchy hood yep. Seems relatively safe inside casino itself tho. Just my two cents.
This just happened: UTG straddles for $5. UTG+1 raises to $15, folds back to UTG, who finds that he's been dealt only one card.
Floor is called and his decision is that UTG can either play his one card or muck. He will not be dealt another card. Floor leaves and everyone is shocked. The two players agree to take back their bets, blinds take back their money and the dealer looks the other way.
I've never seen anything like it. I thought that players need to show two cards to win a hand.

That's the correct ruling. Too much action.
His hand is dead.
The floor did not declare the one card hand dead. That was the unbelievable part. The players called him back to the table because they thought he was joking, but he confirmed his ruling.
It's possible that he did a terrible job communicating, but everyone at the table, including the dealer, had the impression that the hand was live.

All of this is standard. Fold pre.
