Bachelor Bender - March 3/7-11 Trip Report
You want to see a very bad man? Make an ordinary man successful beyond his imagination. Let’s see how good he is when he can do whatever he wants.
- Min Jin Lee, Pachinko
I’ve been building toward this trip report for the last two years - my last was March 2022. Since then, I’ve blown my gambling bankroll in the pits, rebuilt it at 5/10 NL and some small WSOP cashes just to blow it again on sports, hit a $10k dealt royal in video poker during F1 weekend, and gained 15 pounds from my quest to try every steakhouse in Las Vegas. (I’m currently at 70 out of ~93, but that’s a story for another thread). In other words, life has been good.
Now, one of my best friends is getting married and called upon me to be his best man. That means he gets a bachelor party in Vegas with plans to indulge in all the sins this city offers.

The boys begin to arrive today, Thursday the 7th, and will continue to stream in through Saturday morning. I recommended the Cosmo wraparound suites, but got overruled 9-1 in favor of the Flamingo. I guess we won’t spend much time in the rooms anyway, and room savings will help boost all of our bankrolls.
We have an exciting itinerary planned, with plenty of time for blackjack, craps, and general debauchery. Expect the average BAC of the trip to be .1.
Thursday night: dinner at Giada’s.
Friday night: dinner on the Ocean Prime patio followed by a table on Skyfall Lounge’s patio. Sapphire’s or Spearmint TBD.
Saturday: Wake up early for F1 Jeddah, brunch at La Fontaine, bet college hoops at the Fontainebleau sportsbook. NoMad Bar to pregame the Red Wings / VGK game, then tickets to the VGK game. Midnight fire pit at Circa’s Legacy Club, followed by early morning wandering down Fremont.
Sunday: dinner at Bazaar Meat then bar-hopping our way south down the strip.
I’ll post some pics and updates as I can. Here we go…
I can't anagram apricotjello into blasted, or vice versa.
Nice one!
what an absolute mess of a weekend, apologies to everyone following along for not updating. i started drafting a report for friday night and saturday morning, but i can’t post too much about it yet.
one of the guys on the trip got charged (cited?) for allegedly soliciting someone at the cosmo chandelier bar. she also stole his phone and credit cards (but was nice enough to leave his ID lol)
we’re still sorting through the fallout now but the experience somehow didn’t ruin his trip.
you play with dogs you catch fleas.
or something like that
Wow, that's too bad. Hope he's able to get it sorted out without problems like identity theft.
You gotta admire that kind of focus.
But let me get this straight: she stole his phone and CCs, but he got cited?
Not excited or incited--just plain and simple cited???
Wow that sucks
Hopefully it’ll make for a story you can all laugh about someday
Did he fall for the "why don't you go take a shower first" trick?

What level of chandelier? Asking for a friend.
She obviously wasn't a cop if she stole his ****, so how did he end up with a ticket?
Leaving the ID is pure class -- seriously. I mean, if you are going to rob someone who you think probably needs to fly home, that is really thoughtful.

I had a dream early this morning where I was in Boston (not sure why I knew this--didn't see any monuments or whatever) to deal a charity poker tournament. It was a mess trying to find the place and get it running.
At some point I realized I didn't have my wallet. Not sure if I lost it, or it was stolen, but I was dithering over how I was going to get home.
Didn't occur to me til now: I wonder if this thread was in my subconscious.
TL;DR - Interesting events of Saturday night/Sunday morning come in the next post. Friday night will seem quite tame by comparison.

We start at Montecristo cigar bar and get stogies + a couple rounds while we watch the early NBA slate. Cigar and drinks were good but the room poorly ventilated. I’d prefer somewhere with a patio or open air when smoking in the future. Someone loses $1100 on an NBA first quarter bet and we’re off.
Went back to the rooms to shower and change for dinner. Got a sweet table on the balcony at Ocean Prime overlooking Las Vegas Boulevard, but a few boys got a bit cold.
It was windy and maybe 50ish? Soft for a group primarily from Boston/Philly/NYC and they were roasted appropriately. One of the waiters must have overheard the jokes. After the first round of drinks, a manager - Melissa(?) - came over, offering us to move us to a private dining room inside. She also comped a shot for the bachelor and two desserts for the table. An excellent hospitality flair, she started our night properly. We loved the rest of our meal, with the seafood particularly standing out. As a steak snob, I found the smaller cuts (individual NY, bone-in filet) underseared but the tomahawk looked great.
We took a limo thereafter to Skyfall Lounge at Mandalay. The wind prevented us from sitting outside, but we got a long table in front of the window and the manager brought us outside for a photo op.
It closed surprisingly early (12ish?) so we hit the Foundation Room after. The patio was open here and I loved it, although the bartenders are noticeably less purposeful and the vibe a bit less bougie than Skyfall. This too, closed around 2:30 but did its job getting us pretty drunk.
Some suggest the craps table, others want to keep drinking. We split into two groups and I opt for the latter - I’ve had too many vegas trips decelerated from a wasted loss on Friday night. Every pit is ice cold for me between like 7pm Friday and me waking up Saturday. I digress - we have one at the downstairs Mandalay bar before the uber arrives to take us to Golden Tiki. Even as a longtime Vegas resident, I’d never been. Someone started buying us rum shots, we bought them Henny back, and I really only remember the strawberry creamy drink after that. At some point a loud misting sound and thunder bounced around the room, a bit like the produce watering at old school grocery stores.
After what felt like 30 minutes but was actually 2 hours, the group of dice players caught up to us. The guy who lost the NBA first quarter bet won a couple thousand on roulette and relit the energy. Another round at Golden Tiki. At this point, some guys in the first group have faded and they uber home (including the bachelor). Two walk over to pho kim long. I enjoy the banter with the boys and I stay.
We’re down to 6, then 4, before we too call it around 5am. We head back to the Flamingo and they go to bed. I give the HL video poker machine (9/6 10 line triple double) $500 before I call it quits too. I have to close the blinds to blackout the dawn.

Pass the popcorn, Cowboy!
What, no strip clubs?
Looking forward to what sounds like will be an epic finish.
