NBA 2024-25 Season Thread
Lettuce NBA!
and lettuce lol @ James Harden
SGA and Jdub both out tonight. I believe the Thunder don’t even want to get the #1 seed cuz the the Lakers have owned their soul in all 3 games this season. They also have no one to guard AD and no Twig boy doesn’t count.
+10,000 TZ points for this theory. It's the only possible explanation for why Gordon Hayward keeps getting minutes.
-10,000 TZ points for Chet slander.
also back to the trade, kawhi was coming off leading an otherwise pretty bad raps team to a championship and he'd won them before in SA as well so it didn't feel like a fluke
his stock was at an all time high and just being able to get him, let alone the idea of building a super team around him felt like a no brainer
and... al the picks were assumed to be worthless since LAC was supposed to be so dominant for the next few years anyway - why take a random with the 28th pick next year to stash in th
Yea this. Like it's obv funny how lopsided the trade looks now, but don't think anyone disagreed with it at the time from LAC point of view. Kawhi wanted PG and LAC don't get him (for literally nothing) if they don't do trade, and it made them what should've been clear best team in league with heaps of equity. OKC just happened to hit the lottery that their guy was magically also worth the reigning FMVP and arguably BPITL. Then they also hit some insane top percentile on SGA outcome.
Meanwhile LAC get the bubble + a classic Doc Rivers choke from 3-1 up, and then a Kawhi ACL.
Just a real couldn't have gone better vs couldn't have gone worse
Bros...
Malachi dropped a 50 burger
FLYNNNNNNNN
On 25 shots!!!!!
BREAKFAST 4 DINNER
I had to triple check to make sure it wasn’t still April 1st. WTF.
This is way more random than Tony Delk or Corey Brewer.
Raps* slander just not what it used to be. I am mostly pro all teams now . Would even be ok with Russ winning a title in a 12 mpg role
ehn, think it's a more average outcome than you guys are saying. sga was def rated after his rookie season, pretty sure okc insisted on getting him in that deal because everyone thought he was quite good. and both kiwi and wayoff p were pretty old and busted by the time they teamed up, so not exactly a surprise that it hasn't amounted to anything. trading five 1sts plus two swaps is prob always gonna be a bad idea
i know a late 1st is basically worthless, but still, they traded one for kelly olynyk, an expiring contract ?? maybe something called ochai agbaji was the key to trade ... looked him up and it turns out that his value is "grady dick's friend", and friendship is magic. priceless
[...]
the lolrapz' FULL tank is going strong on this 15-game L streak, losing by 50 and all that (though they started too late, have only moved down 1 spot, prob won't move any more than that), but i'm still trying to figure out why they traded a 1st for free-agent-to-be kelly olynyk at the deadline. anyway hopefully their late tank fails and they hand the #7 pick to the spurs

they became faves to title after the trade. ex ante many would have been surprised to learn clips wouldn't amount to much over next few years, especially if you told them they'd add harden.
hmm i guess thats true

should put up a banner for that first year to commemorate when they were slight offseason champs according to vegas
we're really surprised that teaming up two gimpy 30 year olds went nowhere? come on
Flynnsanity has me reinvigorated for this thread. Anyone got any hot taeks? Mine is that the Suns have real chip equity. For some reason they're 25-1 to the clips 8-1 (best line avail) and it's not like their net rating is thaaat much better despite being basically the same thesis (olds pull it off one last time).
Grayson Allen is shooting 47% from 3
Royce O Neale is #good
EG might have some juice in the tank
Nurk has rounded into form
And then the big 3 speaks for itself

SGA wasn't even ranked in the top 5 rookies when the trade happened (didn't make all rookie first team).
PG just finished 3rd in the MVP and Kawhi was seen as (maybe) the best player in the world after the Championship.
The take of "think it's a more average outcome than you guys are saying" is bad.

Is it even a hot taek though? Suns took Denver to 6 and I'd say they have a better lineup if everyone is healthy this year.
Honestly the West seems kind of open in a weird way. The Thunder and Wolves are great basketball teams, but trouble lurks when you start considering their potential round 1 opponents. Having to face Durant / Booker / Beal or LeBron / AD seems a paltry reward for a great regular season, even if you have home advantage.
Re: Clippers trade - everyone does that deal 10/10 times. I’d even do it knowing what happens with SGA. You’re getting a top 5 guy and a top 10 guy at 28/29 and are among the top 5 favorites for 4-5 years. No other recent star trade has had that kind of return. It just turned out super shitty because it the Clippers.
Randle out for the year.
Sucks cause with OG on the team, I wanted to see the Knicks do well.

they were only considered true contenders in 3/5 seasons, and a top contender like once (year 1)
lost 2nd round, lost 3rd round, missed playoffs, lost 1st round, 2024: ???
idk, seems like a pretty average outcome when pairing up two old gimps. maybe one good title run below ev, but yeah it's the clips, so. it wasn't a horrible gamble, but saying you'd do it all over again knowing sga would become a superstar seems silly
Knicks need Randle out there so teams can't sell out and double hard on Brunson, although when OG comes back that helps a bit as he's a sniper from 3 and can roll hard t to hoop.
