Feel like Randle being out probably kills the Knicks chances (which were already sub 1%) in the playoffs. The other 99% is obviously the Celts, who are going to win the East as they have no competition.

Also, there's a non-zero chance the Pacers actually miss the playoffs. Apr. 7th against MIA is basically a game to decide 6/7. If they lose, the 7th place game is against the Sixers with Embiid, and if they lose that, the 8th place game is probably the Bulls who's waxed their muffins this year.

Missing after having one of the best records against good teams and worst records against bad teams would be maximum hilarity.

they were only considered true contenders in 3/5 seasons, and a top contender like once (year 1)

lost 2nd round, lost 3rd round, missed playoffs, lost 1st round, 2024: ???

idk, seems like a pretty average outcome when pairing up two old gimps. maybe one good title run below ev, but yeah it's the clips, so. it wasn't a horrible gamble, but saying you'd do it all over again knowing sga would become a superstar seems silly

...because Kawhi did his ACL. C'mon man lol.

They'd just turned 28 and 29 respectively. One had just finished top 3 MVP and the other had just won FMVP

Meanwhile "valued rookie" SGA was fresh off a solid 6th in ROY voting, just behind Colin Sexton.

It really just wasn't particularly close imo

Kawhi was definitely just overrated in hindsight. He was getting MJ comps in the 2019 playoffs run.

PG wasn't remotely gimpy tho. He'd had a freak leg break once and basically was consistent 70+ games every other season. Look at his games history, all worries start after LAC.

Honestly I have no idea how highly rated SGA was tbf, ROY voting maybe not best method to judge but all I really have, don't have a heap of memory on it because he wasn't remotely on my radar.

I think the SGA part is what makes it seem the worst, more than just 'not winning with a contender' (rings are hard). Feels like the unfairest part to judge harshly on though, but maybe signs were there idk

ya agree kawhi/PG deal was a no brainer

they immediately became co-favs to win the title

no one saw this coming with SGA, really even if they did i'd still do the deal

In the 4 years before the trade Kawhi finished second in MVP voting, third in MVP voting, missed season due to Zaza which could have easily been written off as a freak injury, and then won a finals MVP. Hard for the Clippers to know he was gonna fleece them like that.

ok fair point on wayoff p, thought he had an injury history beyond that bad one, but kiwi was obvious. he was load management before load management, always missing like 20 games, took an entire season off, etc. wild that this season he's on track to play 70+ games for the 3rd time, good for him. serious rungood, actually

yeah, exactly
According to our research department, the average age of an All-NBA player is 27.7 years old. This dates back to the season the award debuted in 1946-47. In fact, the average age of an All-NBA recipient has been within one year of that mark in each season for the past 20 years.

That’s strikingly similar to a paper published by sports economists David Berri and Rob Simmons, which suggested that the peak performance of an NBA player is when they are 26

“[We] looked at the impact various factors have on NBA performance. Aging was one of those factors, and what we found is that player performance tends to peak around 26. After that, players start to decline: slowly at first, and then precipitously.”

When signing players to longer-term deals, it’s important to keep in mind how rare it is for someone to be considered one of the best players as they get older. As such, it’s no surprise many deals offered to players past 30 are often considered the worst in the NBA.
performance goes down, injuries go up

Meanwhile "valued rookie" SGA was fresh off a solid 6th in ROY voting, just behind Colin Sexton.

come on with this stuff, guys. it obviously says nothing about his value at the time. pretty sure everyone thought he was a legit prospect

SGA wasn’t this absolute can’t miss guy. He was very solid as a rookie, particularly in that series against GSW, but his best skills seemed like defense and creating. Anyone who says they saw him becoming a 30 a game guy who gets to the line 12 times every night is full of it. I took him in the 2nd round in a dynasty draft two years ago and people said it was a reach.

He also ended up having a very good situation to develop - learns from CP3 for a year, low pressure afterwards, stacked with guys who are his age and compliment his game.

This would not have been true on the Clips. That team had no business even making the playoffs that year, their best guys were Gallo and Tobias Harris. BUT they had all their picks and a bunch of pretty good guys on decent contracts, meaning they were primed to trade. If they keep that roster and don’t add anyone, theyre not going to just turn the keys over to SGA right then the way OKC did.

Ballmer wanted to win ASAP. If you told him - SGA is going to be an MVP level guy in 4 years but you get an MVP level guy right now in Kawhi + a top 10-15 ish guy to go with him, he’d still make the trade.

They should have beat Denver in the bubble but Doc kept running Harrell out to get annihilated by Jokic. They went 6 with Phoenix the next year without Kawhi. Those two years, they really were the favorite, imo. The rest of the league caught up since then, but not a single Finals has got to be a bottom percentile outcome.

The whole league should have known SGA would be a superstar when the Hornets picked him then traded him on draft night.

On a side note , the 4th quarter of the Denver/LAC game started at 10:58 CST. I fell asleep twice during the quarter and woke up right when it ended at 11:56. Terrible product, even if my team won.

Jaden Ivey going to do a Flynn? It's Ivey 11, Grizz 11 five minutes in.

ETA: LOL Flynn, nice -15 in 3 minutes in the 1Q.

+50K TZ Points

Good thing we had Kemba instead.

I doubt Flynn plays another nba minute after this year.

I've seen enough.

He's not a nba player.

Suns have found something at the right time to get out of the play in. New Orleans by contrast looked hapless in the 4th last night, if they somehow miss the playoffs again heads need to roll.

I'm running with the theory that in honor of srm's marriage, flynn is adopting the niners and giants every other year be good strat and will be firing heavy and sinking them tonight

This popped up on my YT. Some quality NBA content lol

flynn is canceled!

still may yolo him in gpp but can't play in cash :(

Flynn must have a discord where he gives away picks. No one can play as poorly as he has after a 50 pointer

Now 1-19 from the floor since his burger. LOL Hawks, how on earth did you give that up.

They wanted breakfast for dinner.

And they got served!
