Crown Casino (Melbourne, Australia)

I recently spent a week playing tournaments at Crown Melbourne and played some cash games, when I was trying to find information on the poker games I found limited info so I figured I would post my newfound knowledge! I only played up to 5/10/20 NLHE and PLO.

Limits:
1/2-2/5 are always running and often at least one 5/5+ game. Limits 2/3 and lower are probably not beatable due to the rake.

Rake:
1/2 - $5/hr + 10%/$8 - $80 max buy-in. Don't play this.
2/3 - $5/hr + 10%/$8 - $200 max buy-in. Don't play this.
2/5 - $10/hr + 10%/$6 - $500 max buy-in.
5/5/str - $25/hr - $1000 max buy-in.
5/10/str - $25/hr - $2000 max buy-in.
5/5/str PLO - $25/hr - $1000 max buy-in.
5/10/str PLO - $25/hr - uncapped buy-in.

The 5/5+ games have live straddles and often get placed by all players when agreed upon.

Other games:
There were a few other games running during my stay at various times: 1/2 plo, 10/20 limit omaha, 20/40 limit omaha/hold-em, 25/50 plo, 100/200 plo.

Hope this helps!

TEMINATOR POKER Tournament

Do you have this info for the Sunday tournament?
Starts at 12, from what I’ve heard?
How many runners does it usually get?

You can also check the website of crown Melbourne as well.

Normally 90-120 entries on Sunday tournaments (500 dollars buy in )
160-225 entries on Wednesday (250 dollars buy in )

How far poker has fallen in Aussieland when peeps are getting excited over a crappy $250 high rake tournament at the same time of year the Aussie Millions main event was run in the past....

Saw a Blackjack screen rebooting last week. Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised it was running Windows 7 (end of support January 2020). Good on Crown for moving off Windows XP.

This can easily be beat

You would be surprised how much equipment on this planet runs on very old OSs. Also this is not too much of an issue as long as it is not connected to the internet

Poker area has 6 more tables for a total of 36. That should be good for tournaments not impacting on the number of cash tables that can run.

Think the room is good and it's an improvement from downstairs.

One thing I find hilarious from a business point is crown not giving reduction for short handled. Break every 3 hours let's say only 3-4 come back after break on time and other 4-5 are 10 mins late. If no reduction is given there is no incentive to play short handed as the rake is too absurd. Also raking preflop too. Yikes.

I love Melbourne as a city but Crown fkd you all hard here.

The 2024 AFL season starts today. The Crown Poker room has 8 tv screens, 5 are promoting the next tournament (Sunday), only the tv facing tables 4 and 6 is showing sport.

it’s a **** sport anyway. Put the rugby league on

I've seen some of the OG pre-covid crushers back on the 5/10/20 tables lately, they weren't around much last year. Played in one of the worst games in years at Crown the other day (6 sharks + 1 OMC).

New short series got announced for start of April - they were announcing it yesterday in the room.

A couple turbos, PLO, and a freezeout all $550 buyins ($480+70)
Main event is $1500 buyin ($1300+200)

I hope they start using their facebook/twitter pages again to get the word out for it though. Asked the TD Sam for structures and got told they will be on the website soon.

Given how long the tournament break was, and the turnover of staff, I imagine few dealers know games other than Holden and Omaha.

Can you ask the TD if (and hopefully when) tournament results will be uploaded to Hendon Mob, and if the answer is “they won’t”, then why?

I asked a guy last month who I think was above the TDs, casino manager or something. Got told they are waiting for approval/clearance before they can - involved making sure it's okay because HendonMob is a third party site or something alongside player information. Past tournaments are on there so I don't know why it's different now though.

He did tell me though that once they get given the 'green light' that all results since tournaments started back up would be posted.

My guess has been that it relates to the Royal Commission. People will get rather annoyed and vocal if major series return and results do not get uploaded.

I wonder how receptive the poker room would be to new games these days.

Like you mentioned Kerr there’s probably been a dealer skill drop off. I’ve been loving Big O lately (5 card PLO Hi/Lo) but I can’t imagine a crown dealer in 2024 dealing with a quartered pot :p

Back in the day, you could request a new game like pineapple, and they would typically start up a waiting list

Today is supposedly Day One of a new Crown Casino. Last year, Crowm Sydney let 100 staff go, now Crowm Melbourne has let 200 staff go. And then today:

Crown Resorts keeps its licence to run after probation period ends

Asked again last night about results (I've got a win and a couple places I'd like to see on my profile) - got told it's in motion and to keep an eye on the website. I noticed that their Crown Poker Series is listed on HendonMob now - ended up checking the site and looks like it's all gotten a big update with structures for the series coming up.

I'll chuck the links here:
Schedule
Structure

@kerr Apparently majority of the staff let go were pit bosses. Fair few of them were part of their poker department players were saying.

Yep, first HendonMob update since covid

Not sure what I was expecting, but the Crown Poker Series main event went from 217 entries down to a final table of 9 in about 8 hours, which included two 15-min breaks. $69k up top.

Is the limit Omaha high only? Does plo ever run plo8?

That's ridiculously quick.

Yes and no

I can’t recall if Crown has ever run O8 cash.

Crown used to spread PLO8 cash pre-COVID, usually once a month or so on weekends.

Would be great to get PLO8 cash up again.

2-3 NLH turbo returns next week, Mon-Wed only at this stage, $200 flat buy-in.
