Broke and motivated. Morning session SNGs + MTTs
Hello guys,
I`m back! Starting this week I will play SNGs + MTTs on stars plus some games on other platforms. I will play the early morning session so I need more platforms to open enough games.
BTW, I`m broke and motivated. 😀
Motivated to get up from the hole I got myself in, like 0 reserves and 0 bankroll. As a reserve I got my mother where I can borrow fast 2-3k (already borrowed 1k), another 3k in a 401k like pension fund, or sell my car. I don`t like any of these options, but it`s a good thing I got them, because even if I run realy bad, I have some safety nets. So, I have cash to live for 1 month before I have to activate a safety net. Let`s hope I will make some splits fast on any of the platforms I will play.
The challenge: Take the power back!
Fix my financial life. I will do that with baby steps and grind myself out of this.
Part 1:
-make enough money to live for 1 month, than 3 months
-create a 3k bankroll for pokerstars and play on my own here
-create reserves to live for 4-6 months
-bankroll on stars of 5k
-buy a new computer(5kish) and maybe restart twitch for a couple of hours/day
-10k reserves put into bonds for fast acces, in case of need(this will include a big part of the 4-6months reserves)
Part 2:
-buy a one room apartment and rent it
-buy the second one
-buy the 3rd one
-now I can buy a normal apartment/house to live in it with a credit from the bank. The credit will be paid with the rents from those 3 “garsoniere”(one room apartament).
-after that, sky is the limit
During this challenge I will enjoy life. In my last challenges I was separating the poker challenge from the life challenge, but there are inseparable. In case I will do this again here, it`s only in writting.
Short summary of what happened to me this 3 years:
In october 2019 my son was born. Best thing ever, but to be honest, I wasn`t thinking like this at that moment. I was focused on making money, wanting to buy a house, providing (the manly thing 😃) and I wasn`t enjoying that much my time spent with him or my girlfriend, because I was a man on a mission: make money. I was stupid! But with time, I learned to be empathic again, to love, to learn, to be more flexible (I still need a lot of work in this areas, but I`m on the right track) wich helped me understand some things better, but that was to late for my relationship so we broke up. Now we are raising our son as coparents and we both moved to Bucharest. The breakout wasn`t that bad for me, but I still decided to go to teraphy. If I will be the lawmaker, teraphy will be mandatory and free for everyone because it`s a super power.
Other points:
-I`m dating someone for 3-4 months and it`s great. She is smart, supportive and looks like we can build a nourishing relationship. Did I mentioned she`s ****ing hot?! 😀
-I lost 11kg in a year, from 88 to 77. To be safe I should go down to 73Kg even though I`m sexy enough right now. 😀 For the moment I just want to keep that in check and focus on poker for a couple of months.
-I started walking a lot, like 250-300km/month. It helps with the kilos and it relaxes me. I also got a subscription to Blinklist and I can listen to short blinks while walking
-I also stopped falling asleep with a movie and just read 2-6 pages before sleep. Looks like nothing but at he end of the year I will have a few books “under my belt”. 😀
-I have a small leg injury so I can`t play football for a while. Let`s hope I will be fit to do this in the autumn.
-I remember now I stopped smoking when I was doing the old challenges and now It`s like 4 years or so since
-I restarted meditation for 10 minutes before the session. This should also be mandatory for everyone, another super power
Things I want to do in the near future:
-do some full contact sport to get the tension out and to get in shape.
-take some improvisation lessons. I hear it`s therapeutic and fun.
-try some ecstatic dance
-twitch
-expand my social life a little. Reconnect with some old friends and make new ones.

I started the year with some tilt because I tried some hypers and 25$ games. I have to avoid this especially now when I m going to rough times, so 0 hypers or 25$ until the new rakeback program.
Just need to get some small wins at 5-10$ turbo to get my confidence up again and relearn to enjoy the game.
Also only looking at EV and cashier once a week.

Started the year with tilt but it`s time to stop this cycle of complaining and negativity.
Even though I ran bad, I only lost 50$ish if I calculate rakeback, so not that bad.
I also made a written plan to get back and crush the games. In 2024 I want to be in top 30 SNGs players and in 2025 in top 10.
A summary of what am I going to do:
1. regular sleeping program
2. 1 hour/day of learning (5days/week) and a a session of at least 2 hours/week when I dive deeper. 10 hands review at the beginning and end of session.
3. weekly schedule for playing and focusing on good play, not results.
4. pull-ups and meditation before each session. I`m already doing this for a couple of months.
5. cooking. It`s healthier, cheaper and helps with the extra fat. I`m already doing this but I want to improve and order less. I`ll not focus on losing kilos because I`m in shape right now. Just focus on eating healthy and exercise.
6. walk outside at least 30 min/day. BTW the hour set for review will be on a walking pad/standing desk.
7. process loss in a healthier way, not by avoiding it.
8. maybe this should be first: stop complaining, accept and acknowledge what I can and can`t control.
So, my bakroll is around 1400 now and I will only play 5-10$ turbos. I have money to live for 1-2 weeks. If I can`t make profit in 1-2 weeks, I`ll close my private pension for 4k and I`ll have around 2-3 months for living expenses. Next step will be to sell my car wich will give me 6-9 months of living expenses. I`m set until the end of the year and I can focus on improving and playing.

If by parasiting you mean borrowing money it`s clear you refer to it this way because you don`t pay it back.

I managed to fix some leaks and catch a break from the downswing. Let the upswing begin!
I`m still working on my game and mindset.
In 2 weeks they will introduce the new program in Romania and the rakeback will drop from 65%(now in my case) to 40%. I`m glad this change is coming, I`ll "pay" a fee for more flexibility.

I am playing for more than 12 years now,with so many ups and downs,but it would never give up my job to live from poker.Online,it's impossble,especially if you have your own family.I have two kids already,i need to provide for them.Given the variance in poker,you can profit 5000 dollars this month,a lose 5000 the next month and get to a point that you are a breakeven player,even after rakeback
I used to play 3000-4000 tournaments per year with and ABI of 35$ and i managed to profit 127$ after 180.000$ prizes at the end of the year.I used to be NO1`in the world on 33 Bounty builder turbo on demand,but somehow they killed that too and stopped playing that.I gave up on most of the tournaments,playing about 300 tournaments per year and keep it as a hobby,while making some profit.I switched to ggpoker in the last year,but the games are so much tougher now and the sh.it i saw there cannot compare with the ones i had on stars on the last 12 years
BTW,just to be clear i aint a newbie,i have around 1M $ in tournament prizes(on stars+fulltilt),about 180.000 profit on cash games(PLO and dont play those either) and around 40.000 games on spin and go(maybe i am breakeven),but once again I WOULDNT not give up my job over poker
Second,kids tend to will copy their parents behaviour and will think that it's a good example and they will evolve into compulsive gamblers.drinkers etc.It's proven that.My older son saw me playing almost daily and started to play minecraft and it's an addict now.So make sure you enjoy your life,it's never late to reconvert into somehow you need to be and should be.If you made money and lose it all,it was a lesson you never learn.
And one more advice for you..you can try to take some IT lessons,where the paychecks are higher than the average salaries in Romania and way less taxes overall

Btw, I think looking your graph could be affecting your game. I am a cash game player and its a very different format but I just like to see my all in adj line and hide the other one cauze I dont care if Im under or over it what I really care is if Im winning or losing. Time will take care of both lines and I do take care of my game.

To be honest, I had the IT job on the back of my mind, because it`s one of the few decent paying jobs in Romania. But that means I have to invest a lot of time to learn that, start from an entry level and earn as I earn now or lower for a few years. Maybe it`s easier to learn MTTs or spins. 😀 Just to feel more safe I will learn some IT on the side and see if I will used it or not in the future. It will definetly help me be more relaxed and positive about the future. BTW they started to grow taxes on the IT jobs.
I don`t find it impossible to win from online poker, especialy since I`m doing this for years and I also know a lot of players that live from online poker.
My son has rarely seen me playing poker. I ussualy play when he is with his mother/kindergarten. You kinda have to be 100% present when taking care of a kid, not opening tables and stuff. 😀
Also kids understand behaviors sometimes better than we do, so I`m not affraid of him seeing me play poker. I just need to help him understand that is safe to have a different job than the norm if it pays the bills and gives you more free time.
On this thread I was focusing more on the negative sides of poker, but I never mentioned the positive sides:
-I have a more flexible program.
-More free time than a normal 8-9 hour job (maybe some commute involved). It`s true that downswing are brutal, but sometimes having a toxic boss/team can be more brutal.
-Decent+ salary for Romania with the option of getting bigger if I commit to MTT/Cash/Spins( a game that has more future than SNGs)

Hey! Yes, looking too often at my graph and stats it`s affecting my game/mental state a lot. I can say that`s my biggest weakness and I`m working on it. It`s even harder when I have a downswing not to look at the graph because downswings activate some fears, and being emotionaly dysregulated open the door to more fear than we can imagine. So, the past 2-3 years were nasty, but I`m coming out of this period stronger and more aware of what is happening with me.
I`ll focus on not looking at EV/cashier as a priority and start to prosper.
And the swings I had in the past years come also from a poor mindset and work ethic. It`s getting better now.
Even with this rake changes I can still add some games on multiple platforms and make a living until I decide what I will play in the future.

Very rough runs in there, I agree probably you are focussing too much on the things you can't control (on the other hand, in the financial situation you mentioned I think it also is kinda natural).
I think the negative comments from the couple trolls should just be ignored, at the end of the day you are the one who has to figure out your situation, and how you do it in the process is up to you.
Just as an idea - maybe working part-time would be an option for you? If that is common/possible in romania - it would give you a save net each month to not have to worry about most financial stuff, while still having time to keep pursuing poker. At least that's what I'd at least consider.
Any plans yet for when the rake changes come into effect on Stars? Probably 18mans will become more popular again with Regs moving there, on the other hand these games will get tougher. I only found out about this rake increase just now and it looks pretty brutal.

The part-time job is definetly better than a full-time job. I ll keep that in mind if I can t manage in the future.

The plan is to play mttsng on stars, with some 25-50$ sng if they open, plus some small mtts. And offcourse combining other platforms.
I will start learning a new format because it s clear they want to kill sngs for good. Maybe it s all for the best on the long run, because winnings at sngs were kinda caped compared to other formats.

Monthly update:
Profit pre-rakeback: 600$
Rakeback: 550$
Games: 1300
Low volume this month because I moved into a newer and beautiful apartment with my girlfriend. I still have a few days of unpacking and managing this move.
I changed some games from Stars to other platforms. I still can find some good games on Stars, but not enough or not at the hours I want to play.
Looks like I am able to get 30% rakeback with the volum/games I`m playing. I`ll get to 40% after the summer and after I learn some spins.
I had to chose a game to replace lost SNGs and I picked spins. I played around 20-30k spins lifetime so it`s much more than cash games. I normaly would go for MTTs, but the long hours/sessions are not for me at this moment, maybe in the future.
