Bump. There has been some discussion on walking in Vegas in the 2024 Las Vegas Summer Series thread. Are there any areas around the Strip which are considered unsafe to walk after dark? Like between the Rio and the Strip, or around East Flamingo Road?

I have that walk. When you are on that bridge over 15 there are a ton of homless and it's dark. Be alert.

If Dnegs can do it drunk while filming himself, anyone can do it.

I've walked from Rio to Bellagio countless times when the WSOP was still held there.

The actual hotel is a little further away but exiting the convention center on the East to the back of Bellagio is roughly 0.9 miles IIRC.

Pretty much the same distance as Bellagio to Venetian or Bellagio to the entrance of MGM Grand where Hakkasan is located.

West side of the strip is cool and I would not feel unsafe in the slightest... EAST side of the strip is like a walking thru a mine field.

If you know where to walk it's easy walking from the Rio to the Strip.

Coming from where the WSOP is, go to the parking lot right outside where the WSOP is. Do not walk into the casino. Just go straight to the parking lot, the non-covered one.

Walk in the parking lot towards Twain Avenue. You're heading north while inside the parking lot the entire time. You can even go diagonal in the North East direction while inside the parking lot. Once you're out in the street walk along Twain towards the Str

If you really want to walk, do this. Did it several times back in the early aughts and I was staying at the Flamingo. Just walked thru Caesars and crossed the street.

Not to mention the maniac and drunken drivers on the road.

Thanks, everyone. My guess would be that during summer, 8-10 AM is the best time for this walk. Not too hot, daylight, and fewer drunken drivers than late at night.

I actually will be staying even farther from the Strip than the Rio, but it's on my route.

Just be ready to get mugged. Walking is for poor people, take a cab.

OK, someone was robbed walking 5 years ago. Pretty sure you'll also find someone who got his stuff stolen by a taxi driver within the last 5 years..

As someone early in the thread mentioned, when the WSOP was still at the Rio there was a "constant stream of pedestrians". Pretty sure that changed these days but only because there's no reason to go to the Rio anymore or to stay there.

Obviously makes a big difference if you're in decent shape and can walk a 15min mile without having to catch your breath or if you're struggling to get from your room to the elevator and it takes you 30min to walk a mile. If the latter is the case I'd definitely advise against doing the Rio - Strip walk.

lt is a decent walk to the strip, you must walk on the North side of the sidewalk. Once there you can get to the Flamingo monorail or get across Flamingo to Bellagio for the MGM monorail to Park MGM.

Coming back stay on the North side of the sidewalk and you can get the Flamingo bus West for $2 one way.

I've done this walk a bunch and even walked way past the Rio from the Strip but I'm used to walking a lot. I wouldn't do it late at night with a lot of money on me or in the sweltering heat.

A typical summer, it's 90+ by 8 am.

Okay, that is still doable. I'll be gone before July (the hottest month) anyway.

Obviously not empirical data but I've checked Garmin Connect to see the temps for a couple of my Vegas morning activities in the Summer and it looks like the temps are usually in the low to mid 80's.

Don't have much data from walking at night but >90 around midnight seems common.

Just don't walk in the middle of the day when the sun is at full strength. That said I've found a walk from the airport to Bellagio at 4PM where the weather says sunny and 102F. Looks like I survived.

Just stay hydrated and you will be fine, I wouldn't try to walk from Airport to Bellagio in 115+ though. lol

There is a local bus from the airport to Flamingo for $2 one way.

Discussions of safety in walking between Rio and the Strip are highly overblown. Your chances of being mugged or of a drunk driving hopping the curb are probably less than your odds of being hit by lightning.
