Because these processes are subject to legal challenge (as Everton are currently doing) and as a result have to be in keeping fundamental principles like necessity and proportionality.

Although we see slightly different punishments between Everton and Forest, the idea is to work out something like a standard punishment (think of it like sentencing guidelines in the criminal justice system) and then go from there, either adding for bad behaviour (like Everton lying about their accounts) or reducin

Fair comments. So the main issue is that the consequences of breaching the regulations should have been set out when they were put in place.

In terms of proportionality, there's an argument that Everton just about stayed up in those years that they overspent and wouldn't have done had they spent within the regulations, so it would be proportional for them to be relegated as punishment.

Yes, if the PL is going to take P&S seriously (which I think it should), it would be better to have something akin to sentencing guidelines to work from. This is basically now what we have after the first handful of cases which will be where new punishment start.

You're right, there is an argument and there's even precedent of something along those lines (Tevez/West Ham). However, there are too many unknowns to say so definitively, so punishments (rightfully imo) tend to err on the side of leniency.

I think this is entirely fair. They have lost 8 points or whatever in the best possible season to have done it. They should still stay up at a canter.

The report clearly states that Everton didn't gain a sporting advantage.

The report clearly states that Everton didn't gain a sporting advantage.

Which report says that? The one relating to the initial 10 point deduction specifically says that a breach of PSR does confer a sporting advantage.

Edit: And the one I've just found relating to this 2 point deduction also says a sporting advantage has been inferred from the overspend.

Everton's financial situation is an absolute disaster. Administration is a definite possibility even staying in the pl. I don't see their chairman just walking away ala Abramovich. They have like a billion in debts when you add it all up.

Wednesday with the rarely seen half time quadruple substitution as they look to overturn a 0-2 score at home to Norwich

We are in a choke race with Leicester.
Southampton will take it in the playoffs.

Someone who uses understat or similar more than me might know this - is it possible to get a list of all shots this season sorted by xG, mainly for the purposes of seeing just how often a shot that is higher xG than a penno actually happens (which I guess is very infrequently)?

I support a championship team and would be utterly delighted if Everton got relegated

Ipswich too.

I'm starting to believe again...

Yeah, thanks Watford.
If Farke finally decides to ditch Bamford, we'll go up.

I'll check if I can query this on stat head

Next season is going to be a complete cluster**** if WBA or Norwich fluke the playoffs

Also, if you're looking for the worst decision of the season, check out the penalty WBA got awarded last night
