Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
It could well be choreographed. Probably is would be my guess
but there are wildcards. Not least Netanyahu.
persian penetrates!
The slow flying drones have to fly over a score of US military bases in Iraq and get past the Israeli air defenses and then a Shahed-136 drone only has an 88lb warhead which is very unlikely to injure people in shelters. Iran has ballistic missiles that have 1000lb+ warheads. They aren't trying very hard to really hit Israel.
Ya some people are saying his was a telegraphed response meant to avoid escalation. Others are celebrating the imminent destruction of Israel.
Could end up being wrong as things often are in the earliest reports, but supposedly some cruise missiles fired from Iran, which would be a very different threat level than these drones.
Why would this news send BTC down?
Because the USD is backed by oil and because instability in mid east is good for oil or what?

USA is the largest oil producer by a little, and it's the 4th largest oil exporter, but it's by far the largest oil consumer (1.7x as much as China) - so on the whole it's not good for the USA even though it's good for the US Oil industry. I'm not sure what that would mean for the dollar, but maybe it's good for the dollar because high oil prices are worse for Europe and China than for the US?
persian penetrate in an Aussie mall!
Ya ppl saying cruise missiles too. Liberals can celebrate the next war.
LONDON -- At least six people were killed in a knife attack on Saturday at a shopping mall near Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, police confirmed. The attacker was shot dead by a responding officer.
Police said a nine-month-old baby is among the eight others who were injured in the stabbing attack.
The suspect was identified as a 40-year-old male and his attack is not thought to be terror-related, New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said during a press conference on Saturday.
The police "don't have fears for that person holding an ideation, in other words, that it's not a terrorism incident," Webb said.
Five women and one man were identified as the victims of the attack.
Webb said there was "no suggestion" anyone was targeted in the attack. "We will only know that in time," she said.
Sounds fishy. Guy stabs 6 people (or more) and they're saying it's not terror?
7News Australia seems to be identifying him as Benjamin Cohen, a basically 100% Jewish name. Supposedly he said nothing while doing it.

Sky News Australia reporter Laura Jayes, who was reporting on the incident from Bondi Junction, said on air that she knew the mother who had been killed.
“She was so excited to be a new mother and all of that was ripped away in seconds,” she said.
Reporter happens to know one of the people (allegedly) killed.
I guess it being witnessed by hundreds of people just now isn't going to make you think it's a thing that even really happened.
Jordan is helping to shoot down the drones.
they are going to have a civil war on their hands. half the country has been in the streets rallying in support of the Palestinians for the last 13 days.
would Iran step out like this without access to a nuclear weapon(s) to act as a deterrent?
Potentates and penetrates!

I dont think anyone thinks Iran has nuclear weapons themselves. you think they might get them from Russia or something?
it really seems like a dumb move by Iran and something that is going to increase the suffering in Gaza. but who knows, maybe they are confident in their missiles and drones.
Fighting between Israel and Iran could easily do something outside either country like reignite civil war in Iraq.

i didn't read the latest itt before posting
perhaps this is a telegraphed "attack" and a way for Iran to save face domestically
i just had visions of there being serious damage and loss of life in Israel and was thinking would Iran launch such an attack without a serious form of deterrence to Israel's response?

ya it seems like a bad idea by Iran but maybe they think their non-nuclear missiles and drones are enough.
