3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Falter wants to cross the road, across the path of the demonstration. The officer refuses to let him step off the pavement into the demonstration, instead offering to escort him around the march so he can reach his destination. Falter asserts he is being denied free passage across the road “because I’m Jewish”.

Law makes provision for the police to use their discretion (I know). I was once prevented from crossing the road due to being extremely drunk, and told to use the zebra crossing further up or risk being arrested for being "simple drunk", an offence I didn't even know existed lol.
The law is probably to allow a cop use their own judgement to decide when someone commits a breach of peace which is indeed grotesque and disgusting amirite?
The police use their judgment all the time. They are sometimes wrong, often wrong at protests.
The police do not get to decide what is or isn't against the law or is a breach of the peace. They can arrest people before a breach of the peace if they consider it necessary to prevent a breach of the peace but again afaik it's still the courts who deem guilt.
This still come s down to peopel making an awful lot from the actions of a policeman. Overall they have done a pretey good job imo depite the demented ravings from the right wing press and nutty MPs. The protesters themselves have been overwhelmingly very well behaved.

Under the 1872 Licensing Act, 'simple drunkenness' can be an offence if you're in any public place, including licensed premises. However most of the drinking laws in the UK haven't been updated for a while. For example, this Act is particularly tough on drunks in charge of pigs, sheep, cattle, and/or a steam engine

Police use their discretion on arrest. They dont decide guilt - courts do that.

I did want to comment that I did look up the crossing the street thing and your "merica" comment, and, yeah, surprisingly you are more free generally to cross streets in the UK.
I mean it's a serious ****ing issue. Cops run around persecuting Jews. Seriously, abolish the police.
I think it's a fair question to ask what a college campus would be like today if Muslims were facing similar scrutiny to Jews.
My sense is in the colonizer/colonized white/dark view of the world, it would never in a million years go down this way.

Just want to make clear that when people talk about it being 'illegal for ...' or claim it proves something about safety based on what a policeman does at a protest then they are really stretching it. Police get this stuff wrong all the time.
The law on this is generally very good in the uk. Way better than the usa imo. I'd take our police anyday as well although that's a very very low bar to get over.
