Gun control
I think that the Gun control thread got lost when the old politics thread got moved.
1 The rest of the world looks at the US policy with slack jawed astonishment.
2. “Guns don’t kill people , people do” is identical to “Nuclear weapons don’t kill people, people do”
3. Using the idea that carrying guns can prevent the government oppressing you seems to ignore the fact that the US government controls the most effective killing machine in history
Do you agree now that every time the govt tries to make something more affordable it drives up the price?
I don't think you believe that.
If the gvmnt makes it far easier to extract oil and gas because he cares about the price of oil and gas to be as low as possible, reduction regulation as much as possible, that would drive down the price of oil and gas.
For healthcare if the gvmnt made patents expire sooner, and nurses do more procedures only physicians can do currently, and any physician immigrating could work in the USA from day 1, those would be choices to make healthcare more affordable and they would drive prices down.
GPS is free. The internet is free.
Your argument has been proven invalid
Comrade PointlessWords, you have a place on the train of this revolution. You have been like so many others, the best revolutionerrrr
Guns don't kill people, poor people do.

In your oil/gas examples it seems you are agreeing with me. It sounds like you are admitting that the govt has a lot of regulation on oil/gas and if they reduce those regulations it would lower the price of oil/gas prices.
Reducing the length of patents in the short-term would lower prices but you’d also have to deal with slower healthcare break thru medicines since you are reducing the incentive for companies to invest in R&D to cure diseases.
You 2nd healthcare change also seems to agree with me that the less government tries to intervene in an industry the cheaper it becomes since you are suggesting the govt should be less involved in the decision on who performs a particular task.
You’ve posted 3 times since I asked you to back up your claim that healthcare costs don’t raise faster than inflation after I posted a source saying that isn’t true. Are you going to circle back to that?
Why do gps and internet prove my claim false?

Healthcare costs can go up more than inflation.
That doesn’t mean the govt isn’t making it cheaper for patients than if the govt wasn’t there
Because GPS and internet are US dept of defense technologies that the US gave to everyone for free

It's not even particularly close, although a few single years here and there see more broad CPI inflation, overall healthcare costs increased a lot more than the general price index

For bahbahs clarification , I am arguing that without govt involvement , the medical costs would be even higher than they are now. Healthcare used to be even more profitable and exploitative than it is today on a profit margin basis.
I’m not measuring it against inflation, but good to see the graphs for perspective
CPI is kinda a scam but it’s still good to see
guys, murder rates are objectively higher in poorer regions of the world, pretending like that isn't real just because it makes you sound like a bad person isn't helping anything

Also higher in poorer regions of the same country, and higher in poorer neighborhoods of the same city, basically everywhere in the world.

Tell me how without government prices could be higher.
Without government there is no medicaid/medicare. Anyone can "be a physician". Patents don't exist. Private insurance isn't mandated to cover the latest innovation which costs 10x and is only slightly better.

In Canada , before universal healthcare coverage , lot of Canadians couldn’t afford to go see a doctor.
I guess it’s because it was cheaper …

The Great Depression (1929-1939) sparked a high demand for a public health care system in Canada. In 1929, substantial amount (about 60%) of Canadians were not earning enough to afford adequate health care. Thus, many people did not use medical services. In the 1920s medical technology and diagnostic tools like X-Rays were being used more often, and health care became more difficult to afford. Prime Minister R.B. Bennett’s government did not increase spending for social welfare, but there was an extremely high demand for access to health care. Several sick people even sent letters directly to Bennett desperately pleading for help.
Dr. Kenneth MacKenzie spoke on the issue at the Medical Services Conference that year: “If there is an evil there must be a remedy, and that remedy, as I see it, must be some form of distribution of cost among the people at large.”
norm macdonald is my hero - you should all watch this, stick with it and let him talk it out and please ignore the stupid clickbait title, that's a shameful way of framing it in order to attract clicks on the algo
In a 6-3 ruling on ideological lines, with the court's conservatives in the majority, the court held that an almost 100-year-old law aimed at banning machine guns cannot legitimately be interpreted to include bump stocks.
Writing for the majority, Justice Clarence Thomas said that a firearm equipped with the accessory does not meet the definition of "machinegun" under federal law.
