2024 MLB Season Thread
Nobody wants these games to start more than Mannfred.
Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:
-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.
If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.
In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?
T-Mobile is giving away a free MLB.tv subscription ($149 value) to T-Mobile subscribers starting TOMORROW (Tuesday 3/26 - April 1). Don't miss out.
So speaking of gambling, here are the current best odds for the World Series you can find, from Vegas insider!
Judge's cheating excuse was he does it all the time. It's still interference dumbass. SS should give him that gap back in his grill if the umps aren't going to call it.
Crew chief Andy Fletcher admitted that the umps made the wrong call on Judge’s slide earlier today, per @CyrtHogg
“On the field we got together and did the best we could to come up with a correct answer. After looking at it on replay, it appears that the call was missed. It was an unnatural part of his slide.”
Literally most players do that, Judge is just taller.
Cry about it.
Yeah, and once you fully interfere with the throw there is no ambiguity. Just because runners push the rules with this part of baserunning doesn't make it not against the rules when the objective of ****ing up the throw is met in a clear manner. He's a cheater and a puss for doing it with that oven mitt to boot.
All baserunners do this to some degree.
It's no more "cheating" than catcher framing.
It’s not like he blocked the ball by banging on a trash can or something.
If that was Bregman or Correa doing that 7 years ago with the oven mitt the crybaby yankees would still be piles of weeps. Also, Torre and the Yankee biased MLB front office would disproportionately punish the Astros for something that every team does.
Mariners are rolling
Braves Mariners going to the 7th
Neither team has a hit
Unless you are a fan of the Miami Marlins, this write-up in the Bleacher Report power rankings should make you feel better about your team.
Rank 30. Miami Marlins (6-23)
Previous Rank: 29
Last Week: 0-3 @ ATL, 0-3 vs. WAS
Through their first 29 games, the Marlins are on pace for 128 losses. They have an NL-worst .614 OPS offensively, a 5.06 ERA from the starting rotation and eight blown saves in 12 chances by the bullpen. They carry a six-game losing streak into a week when they will face the Rockies and Athletics.

Obligatory Trout injury, surgery for torn meniscus scheduled for Friday.
Look I love trout but there is just no ****ing chance this guy wasn’t on some kinda PED for years
So we get to see if Trout can hit 30 or 40 homers in another injury plagued season. I'm usually sensitive to injury prone players ... some bods just aren't durable. Mine wasn't in my playing days. I utterly marvel at guys like Jim Brown, Chamberlain, AC Green, Stockton, Ripken of course, Gehrig, Favre, Rose, Dan Issel, etc. etc. and others who just play virtually game in their career. So Trout can't help it, I get it. It's just too bad for the sport and its fans.

Hope they end up being that bad with that many losses. They are losing to some guy named Ryan Feltner who has them shut out going into the 9th with like 80 pitches. His career ERA is 5.74 with 180 IP.

That fight between Uribe and Siri was weak.

In light of the Angel Hernandez situation they showed accuracy stats on called strikes/balls since they started tracking in 2008. Accuracy rate actually went up every year starting at 85% to almost 93% last season. Pretty wild to think that 15 years ago they got every 6th call wrong.
Kutter Crawford is leading MLB in fWAR. Houck is tied for 2nd. The Red Sox can't hit lefties, but they can be a dangerous postseason team if they get there.
Braves at Dodgers for three this weekend, to stake an early claim on NL supremacy.
