Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
It would really shock me

will just ban anyone who makes a post that seems purposely inflammatory with no intent to move forward a conversation
be careful by setting this precedent - this would also include banning you buddies uke, jj, & trolly as all they do in the trans thread is attack the posters instead of the argument and they never move forward the discussion
somebody says something, they link to an academic article of it - the response from those three is to ignore all the data - they don't discuss it, but they do want to dismiss it so they do so by attacking the op instead

This was specific to the I/P thread as it got out of control and needed to be reined in. Also, no one here is my buddy, and I'd have no problem banning anyone.
Finally, there is nuance to this, and history tells me you won't agree with my interpretation much of the time. But that's ok, and I'm sure we'll both survive just fine.
I can speak only for myself, but I interact with you because you are entertaining, and, much as I hate to admit it, fairly intelligent. I feel it's a bit of a chess match,
There are a lot of left-leaners I won't even bother with, because, well, dumbos. I want a challenge innit.

this was essentially what I naively asked. a quick second thought made me realize that in general rules are never applied evenly, and the point of any rules is not to apply them evenly, but rather to target certain people and ideas. its quite obv who these rules will apply to and who they wont.
but hey, thats life. most kids realize this at a young age. but some old people like me never can grasp it.
The thread does need to reopen. It's a major world event and remains the most important news event of the last year. We can't ban discussion of something that the NYT and WaPo are writing articles about daily-- that would be absurd.
That thread is very divisive, and it was held together last time through moderation. It was a *very* quick descent in chaos once the inmates were left in charge, and itβs demonstrable and not debatable.
So someone will have to manage the temperature of that thread almost daily, or it wonβt exist in any form suitable to be hosted by 2+2. Do you get that?

You think if people get banned 1 week + everytime it degenerates into rape jokes, personal attacks and so on, they won't stop doing that?
And as far as bans go, I completely agree that ideally Schlitz and Victor would have been caught early and made to stop their rule violations before it became a complete **** show. Neither of them should be unaware of how their behavior was affecting the discussion as a whole.
And a note to Victor- I know you understand on some level why Browser asked you to put those graphic images in spoilers. I agree they are relevant and important, but you could harm someone by posting them unspoilered and without a trigger warning. You *have* to consider other people when you post, even when your intentions are good.
I feel a little ridiculous having to post this to other adults, but some of you need to T.H.I.N.K. before you post. Is it True? Is it Helpful? It is Inspiring? Is it Necessary? And is it Kind?
It’s a very simple general guideline for social conversations that I’d encourage everyone to utilize a bit more, especially in adversarial positions.

I mostly deal with children, so my methods typically do not use punishment as my primary tool. Learning and talking things out, building trust and rapport, and building cooperation usually work better. Punishment used for retribution rather than reform doesn’t usually yield the same results, although there are always outliers who are just beyond d the scope of cooperation and need to be removed from the group.
Getting creative with consequences also works often. Like, maybe you don’t need a whole week off, but take the night and maybe write a paragraph about how we’re gonna move forward differently as a team.

I have never seen anyone get away with breaking as many forum rules as you.

****ing hell. You are almost smart enough to bluff catch a turn,
We are getting a new mod added into the mix.

Run for the hills whilst you still have a chance!

Well yes of course. I'm just saying that that's something that needs to be figured out because if we can't handle discussion of divisive topics that are major news events, then we might as well shut the forum down.
STOP with the I/P "discussion" here.
NOW

that requires respect. most people here, and especially the people in charge, have shown they have absolutely no respect for non-mainstream USA points of view. so it would be insulting if they asked for something like that from the people they ban.
What is interesting is that anyone can catch a turn. I mean, someone wins the lottery every week. What is interesting is that Crossnerd thinks this is some sort of winning strategy.
is catch a turn some britpop slang?
