Maurice Hawkins still owes his backer
Maurice Hawkins still owes his backer after so many years.

One time I limp re raised aa in 5/10 versus Shawn cunix who called. Maurice was sweating Shawn’s hand. I b3b/called off 4b all in on a35. Turn paired board I snap tabled. Cunix claimed to have flopped the joint but mucked. Maurice kind of shrugged smirked and nodded. Can’t trust that type of shady behavior.

As the caller you should have made him table his hand
I don’t slowroll whales.
There is no justice in poker!
I'm not saying that the two Players situations are the same .. but but I do find myself much more accepting of Chino Rheem than MH. I do believe that CR has taken care of 'the past' whereas I'm not so sure that MH has. CR has made his story public himself and from what I've seen there aren't any detractors to the story.
From what I've seen, which is certainly limited on both sides, CR has 'grown up' whereas MH is still acting like a 20-something 'poker punk'. It's really too bad that a Player who definitely has talent is bad for the room in general. You can suggest that talent will ultimately win out, but poker doesn't owe anyone good results. Acting like you deserve results is what turns others away.
Again, on a totally different scale, but DNegs and PHell constantly show 'deserved' behaviors when they play/lose. But for me, it's just a completely different vibe from MH. GL
Does Maurice still owe the dude? He just shipped another circuit Main for $250k. Or is that just enough to feed his family for a couple months and he still cant afford it....
New interview. Says he does not owe to anyone lol
Cant embed youtube directly no matter what i try.
Didn't watch this yet .. but MH was cashed over the weekend in Michigan at the MSPT $1100 ME. Pretty sure he fired multiple bullets .. which probably means he didn't turn a profit for the visit (at least in the tournament).
Matt Berkey (and Friends) have a sort of rebuttal/discussion on YouTube from a couple days after the Poker.org piece came out if you want to absorb more on this. GL

Nothing will happen to this db cause poker players are the biggest pussies on the planet. Also, why hasn't anyone called out Jean Gaspard, the Vegas scammer?

Wow, calling out Jean Gaspard AKA Prince. I've always wondered how where he got his bankroll. Spill the tea, what has Mr. Gaspard been up to? Maybe start a new thread?
Also, I've had the displeasure of playing with Maurice a few times, not only is he scammer, he is extremely unpleasant when he is losing. Tries to make rec players feel uncomfortable, just horrible person in general.
Do these guys travel in packs?
'Prince' was also at the same tournament site that MH was over this past weekend .. I believe he cashed as well, but did have multiple Day 1 attempts. GL
100% lying scumbag who consistently contradicts himself. Possibly the dumbest human to ever win a poker tournament. That was hard to watch.
Actually i think the interview is fascinating on a psychological level. If u listen carefully he even kind of admits that he scammed people but those "deserved it".
He tells people to meet him in person because he is all hood and people are just jaelous racists.
Narcisstic personality disorder at its finest imo.

Which is hilarious bc Maurice is about as scary as a newborn puppy.
And dropped like 5 "oppressors" in the first 15 mins.
When you try to use fancy words to sound smart, but dont know what they mean so you sound even more conceited. Or maybe he really does view himself as a god-like figure and talking bad about him is, by definition, blasphemy.
The only thing in the interview that I remotely empathize with is the distinction between owing a debt, and being in makeup. Who knows whats true and whats not. But regardless he admits to owing the guy $20k and was also pretty adamant that he isn't going to pay it back, so that kinda says it all.

Indeed very interesting, but also annoying because he's so damn stupid and unable to pronounce words he thinks he knows.
But he's from St Louis!!
OK .. I did watch and tried to keep up with the flow. The interview really could've been cut down as a lot of stuff was repeated 3-5 times, which generally will lead to confusion about which subject is actually being discussed.
Memory/recall is huge when playing poker and it sounds like he has a lot of stuff going on that needs to be kept track of both in poker and personal dealings.
Backers are different from Stakers that are different from personal Loaners where every agreement will have it's own set of terms that may or may not be understood out in the open. The 'deserved' comment stemmed from a Backer who supposedly didn't follow thru or tried to change the terms of the agreement midstream. I'm guessing that MH already had some of the Backers money in his Bankroll and perhaps just held onto it when the Backer didn't follow thru in the spots he was trying to describe.
A bit of contradictory comment when he's asking Berkey to use names and yet he wouldn't use them himself (in some spots), trying to keep 'his' deals private IMO. Where Berkey can 'get away with' his comments is that he (more than once) stipulated that they are not journalists, only just 'friends' sitting down and having a very public conversation. It's actually pretty smart and it would be interesting to see how a court would view an 'opinion' podcast v a Poker News article in a defamation case. He did say he had 'sources', but just didn't want to name them. This is a similar line that a journalist would take, but just as MH said about Rampage making comments 'only' about what he had seen somewhere where is the line between gossip and 'reporting'.
If you can try to filter out the mix of frosting comments he actually does provide a good dose of his perspective and comes off rather self-aware and certainly unapologetic for his poker behavior/tactics at the table while leaving the door open that he's just human like all of us .. but is just targeted way more than others. IMO if you stir the dust then you're probably going to get blamed for it more often than not even when it may not be 'deserving'.
I think the jury is still out, but I'm glad that he gave us some of his time .. even if he really doesn't give a hoot about our POV. I've always said the best way to get involved in a debate/discussion is to know more about both sides than anyone else. GL
