Shohei just spoke to the media for the first time. In a prepared statement, he said:
-He never bet on baseball, or any other sport,
-He didn't know that Ippei lied to him, and that Ippei took the money from Shohei's account to pay his gambling debts
-He'll continue to cooperate with the investigation, and play as the investigation plays out.
If all that's true, then this is probably the best possible outcome for his reputation going forward. He's a naive star athlete who trusted the wrong person. It happens.
In any event, these games are about start! Last year, just like we all predicted, "Someone Else" came on strong in the playoffs, as the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks for the World Series. Can that happen again?

Has there been a hard study reflecting what Ohtani's WAR would be if the positional adjustment were to pitcher?
It's not that complicated.
I'm not sure if this quite makes sense - this seems comparable to saying that Mookie is better than Judge because the replacement defense level for a shortstop should be set to how well a random position player would play the position.
That's exactly how WAR is calculated for position players.

It's not like other teams have to bat with their pitchers. Ohtani is a DH when he hits, not a pitcher.
In fact, the "Ohtani rule" was created so that when he pitches, he doesn't have to come out of the game as a batter when he exits the game as the pitcher.

Aaron Judge had another day where he didn't make an out:
Homerun, double, 2 walks.
Season OPS up to 1.027 and climbing.
He could conceivably finish with the most homeruns and doubles, which hasn't been done since Albert Belle in 1995.

That isn't how WAR works at all. There's nothing in the WAR calculation that depends on where you'd consider putting a player. It doesn't matter at all. The relative values of the defensive positions were set long ago and assume interchangeability. In other words, the WAR model assumes, e.g., that an average 1B could play SS but would be a much worse fielder there on average. That's literally where the positional adjustment comes from. You seem to be confusing this with fielding runs which are measured against average for the position.

I'm not going to dig through twitter comments to find out, but isn't the fielder the one that is interfering? The runner is in the base path going back to the base. Once he's back to the base to tag, he can steal or tag once the automatic IF fly out is registered. Would the base runner be able to go Albert Belle on the SS blocking the basepath?
edit: nm rewatched, no fielder interference, just a dumb and bad call.

tl;dw - on a batted ball, the fielder has the right of way and the runner must get out of the fielder's way, otherwise the runner is immediately out. if infield fly and interference are both called, the runner is out - if the ball is fair, both the runner and the batter are out, if the ball is foul (even if caught), the runner is out and the batter resumes batting.
mlb apparently saying it was a bad call, but that seems like they are just doing that to quell public opinion of a badly received rule. fielder has the right of way to a BATTED ball and interference doesn't have to be intentional or anything and it's called as soon as it happens.
Yordong is only +260 to go yard at Oakland tonight. He has hit 8 Hrs in 92 ABs there, but is 0 for 9 career against Ross Stripling and currently slumping overall. Wind is blowing out at 16mph, but I don't get it. Kyle Tucker the best power hitter in baseball and also a lefty at +400.
edit: I guess I don't look at HR props that often. Gunnar is only +250 at wsox tonight. Judge +270 in SD. Also, apparently Judge has never played in Petco.
Elly de la cruz has 31 Sbs through 50(every) games to go with 9 dingers. Him chasing 100 every time he gets on would be just as exciting as watching the late season HR record cut-ins. Crazy how good the young guys are.

Went to the Mets game last night. Ate a Beef and Lamb Gyro in the caesars sportsbook lounge and it was the best gyro I ever had. They weren’t kidding when they voted Citi Field as having the best food of any stadium in 2023.
Then I went back to my seat and the Mets immediately hit back to back homeruns (the first one was literally 15 feet away from me in the same row. Woulda been so sick to catch a homerun ball).
I thought I was no longer the jinx.
Later on Mets give up a grand salami and lose in the 9th by one run on a bang bang play at 1st.
