We're on what, day 6 of trying to explain the plain meaning of ordinary words to adults?

Do you agree that a black person can become of Han ethnicity if he speaks chinese and eats with chopsticks and so on, or not?

Who here is arguing this?

by Luckbox Inc m

Who here is arguing this?

jalfrezi, literally, for a week.

He claims ethnicity can be purely defined by culture (not exclusively, but as one of the way you can define it), has not anything to do with DNA /ancestry necessarily at all, and as such can be acquired and changed in life .

He claims "harvard experts" claim that as well, and he contests my claim that for normal people, ethnicity means who your ancestors were.

I'm afraid if you can't figure these kinds of concepts out for yourself by adulthood there's not much I can do.

It can be, but not in all cases. In the case I gave of you in Pakistan, yes.

It started with him saying that if someone says something offensive toward palestinians, that's racist, and with me denying that because palestinian isn't an ethnicity, being palestinians not distinguishable ancestor-wise from a lot of other non palestinian arabs.

Can you just answer? can a black person every become of Han ethnicity yes/no? AND do you think your answer would be widely agreed with by adults in your country?

Ok so answer this: why is Kamala Harris universally considered of black and indian ethnicity, and not of jamaican and indian ethnicity?

I don't know much about her and am not inclined to look it up.

You seem to unable to comprehend that these things are not tightly defined despite having had this spelled out to you many times.

These things define very well: ethinicity is strictly and exclusively about who your ancestors were. There are gray areas in the sense that when you are mixed up enough, you won't have any specific ethnicity.

BUT NOTHING YOU DO WILL EVER CHANGE YOUR ETHNICITY lol, that part is very well defined, ethnicity isn't something you "become", it's something you are born with, that strictly and only depends on who your ancestors were.

That, for normal people.

Waiting for trollson for his take on this, we know yours according to which a black person can become of Han ethnicity in some cases.

Fuzzy lines

Ok, this is going to never end, and it's pointless. It doesn't matter if you are classifying people into racial categories, cultural categories, ethnicities, religions, or whatever -- mods are going to draw the lines where we think they are rational and reasonable to be drawn. The lines will be fuzzy. If you don't think you can figure out where the lines are, maybe just be nice

by jalfrezi m

Fuzzy lines

That's what the mods decided to do, doesn't mean that's how people in the real world use the word ethnicity.

So what? Some people in the real world use the word "race" to mean something which it doesn't mean, as per the scientific article I posted. Good to see you admit you have no respect for hard science.

Some people in the real world use the word "irregardless" and use the word "literally" to mean anything but literally.

Keep thinking harvard experts believe a black person can become Han (hint: they don't) because of a completly unrelated article you chose to link

Nowhere have I stated this. Stop making **** up and falsely attributing it to people.

You said a black can become a Punjabi or Pashtun (there is no pakistani ethnicity, there are several very different ethnic groups in pakistan though), i presumed that generalized to all ethnicities.

Otherwise what makes Pakistan special in regard to gaining ethnicity? you can become a Pashtun but not a Han because of what exactly?

Peoples whose families owned plantations and have the same last name as registered owners of the plantations.

It should be optional to pay yourself. If you don’t wanna pay the govt pays

And the govt gets the money from the billionaires since they benefit more than anyone else from the sacrifices African Americans have made in American history/society.

Does this new tax come before or after your idea of govt paid sex slaves for men?

by Luciom m

Yes because they are also different races lol.

by Luciom m

Race isn't bullshit when properly defined (ancestor commonality over a lot of generations).

You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you, though talk you must, apparently.

Time to move off this subject .... in this thread.

happy memorial day everyone!

I hope everyone has an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend as summer kicks off. It's a great time to gather with friends and family and have a good time.

I would just like to mention that for many veterans it tends to be a more somber day as memories of fallen friends come to the fore. So if you encounter a vet who seems withdrawn or reluctant to join the fun, please be aware of why that may be.

I had the privilege of serving as a Company Commander in the only Airborne Battalion in Europe back in the 80s. My Company had 6 platoons each led by a lieutenant. The Department of the Army hand picked the LTs to join this unit, usually the very top of their West Point Class. They were remarkable young men.

Of the initial 6 in the unit when I took command, 5 later were killed in service. They voluntarily served in the most elite units the Army had to offer, with the highest risks. I remember other friends today as well who also gave their lives in the service.

So by all means enjoy the holiday. Just be understanding if you say "Happy Memorial Day" to a vet and you get a pained look in response. For some it is one of the least happy days of the year.
