Seminole Hard Rock (Hollywood, FL)
Just to be clear, I am no affiliated with the Hard Rock in any way but I am a regular patron with a vested interest in the operations of the room. With July 1st bringing the option of uncapped buy-ins to Florida poker rooms, "The Rock" is destined to become the #1 destination for big-game poker players in South Florida. It might not be the most well-managed or prettiest room around but much like Commerce Casino in LA, it will likely host the largest games around and be action-central for low- and high-stakes players alike.
Hopefully this thread will turn into a discussion of all things related to the Hollywood Hard Rock poker room. Feel free to post any questions you may have about the room and I'll try to maintain an up-to-date FAQ underneath this post.

Are you serious? Try putting your trash in one of the conveniently located trash cans around the room.
Lol there are 2 regs at PBKC that throw their garbage on the floor. 1 of them threw like 50 candy wrappers over the course of 1 hour in a tourney next to me. Friggin litterbugs
What is the rake and bonus situation at SHRO please? (I'm north of jupiter so i goto PBKC)
Will play 1/2 to warm up and move to 2/5
thank you in advance
Interesting floor ruling tonite at 1-2
table 31 .. I had sat down with 200, been card dead for first 30 mins, won a pot and probably had 270.
2 new players had just sat down, trying to buy in for 500, were told 400 was max I think, so one had 400 another the other a lesser amount - which he says was 160.
Both new players played maybe 2-3 hands, before this hand - but not putting any real chips in.
I got dealt AH kH on button. Player with 160 ? in mid position rases to 11, folded to me -I make it 40, he calls.
Flop 6c 4H 9H -he bets 60, I put him all. He calls.
I miss. Dealer says I owe 103, which I count out and pass to dealer.
Dealer changes.
5 min later, player who won the pot says he only has 260 in his stack, and he's short 60. He complains to new dealer, who calls the floor.
Floor says he will call security to review tape. He goes away, and comes back to say its too late. New dealer says the complainer had mentioned
the issue 5 mins ago. Floor goes away again. He comes back and says I owe 90 .. WTF ??
I wasn't thinking and should have taken the time to review the hand properly, but was told security/police might be called if I don't pay.
I toss in the 60, and tell them to F off/leave.
I feel 100% scammed, but never play there and just had such a bad day didn't think it thru.

The common rule is he needs to speak up before the next hand is dealt. And he would need to get the floor called over before the next hand is dealt. At that point, the floor might tell the dealer to move on to the next hand, while the floor is figuring out what to do. But if the player didn't protect himself right away, he should be eating the loss (if there is one). Did they count his stack when they did come over? They should be able to use that to reconstruct the facts accurately. However, if he didn't say something before the next hand started, the ruling should be that he is out of luck, and it was now his own fault for not speaking up sooner.
He had bought his chips from desk an he was a distance away from me. His buddy with the 400 chimes in that it’s an Indian casino and they can do what they want.
I felt as a new player they angled me, never asking for my side of the story - but thinking about it afterwards never understood why dealer was so involved. He took the other players version 100%.
Whilst discussing room rulings before brush came, the dealer says if a pot had been awarded in error, again they can go back / review tape and change.
I was on tilt from other stuff and didn’t think it thru properly. I am only in USA for another week so it’s not worth worrying about.
I should also have added I am an older guy and they joking said I could be banned from the property but it may only be for a few years.
Reworking the hand, the guy says he had 160 in his stack. He called my 40, and was given 103 from my all-in.
At the v most he was 17 short.
I should have said this in the moment.
Thanks for replying
Lots of euro pros in 2/5 here last month or so. Action is decent/below avg but pro heavy. Are 2/5 games in Tampa less pros?
Hi all, will be visiting New York soon, and in a bit to get some poker action in soon, thinking of visiting Seminole Ft Laurderdale or Tampa. Will be playing NL Holdem $2/5 mostly, maybe $5/10. Do these games run 24/7, and is there any particular reason to visit one over the other? Thanks!
Stay home
Haha that's funny. So, no, NLH bigger than $2/$5 does not run regularly--weekends, during series / events (one is running now), and 1 table on select weekday evenings. The $5/$10/$25 is decent though; it's the biggest public NLH game in the area. 5-card PLO runs regularly if you're looking to play bigger than $1k cap $2/$5NL.
Scrolled up a few posts and sad to see a visitor get hosed on a poor ruling. I'm glad Fossilman chimed in. Villain in that hand needs to speak up ideally before the next hand is dealt but at a minimum before significant takes place. He said "5 minutes later." Perhaps that's rounding up; however if another hand had been dealt and completed before the action was paused [to call the floor], I wouldn't have paid as a novice visitor.
The SHR is a leader in harboring a culture of angling and poor floor rulings. Note that the event staff are separate, and the traveling dealers are regularly the best--efficient and the most experienced.
Examples:
Intentionally and physically aggressively check out of turn then raise when I reclaim my action and bet in $2/$2PLO -- dealer just stares at you like you're the problem bc Latin bro is daytime reg.
Bet 7k with 3 chips in tournament. Villain, a rec yet semi-reg, calls with 3 chips. Showdown. Villain sees he loses and says he thought it was only 2,500. Floor allows him to commit 2,500 only. Note that 5k chips were in play to start the tournament, so no excuses like I was the only one at that table with that denom.
It's the culture of the room, and it's sad that the SHR does not foster a safe environment for novices or non-regulars who may be unfamiliar with the scammy-ness which goes unchecked by staff. Other players see the same thing; I know I'm not the only one to recognize it. Example: 2 players HU OTR in a hand I wasn't involved in, the bet is $600. Player puts out 5 black chips to call. The player who bet sits and waits, maybe 15 seconds elapses, until the caller adds another black chip before bettor tables his hand.
Anyone live in the area have recommendations on convenient and safe places to live near the casino? And any places to avoid? Thank you!
Also wondering about the weather situation and sea level rise issues in the near future as I’m considering moving there. Appreciate it.
If anyone knows the state of the 5/5+ plo5 games I would be interested as well.

Please don't move here. I've seen a lot of your posts, all you do is complain about not being treated well. Thanks, but no TY

I heard that the Hard Rock will be under water by 2026.
Hello everybody,
Recently sold my home in Las Vegas and going forward will be splitting time between Shreveport, LA and Pompano Beach, FL. As primarily a PLO player I made my first trip to Seminole Hard Rock (Hollywood, FL) this past Sunday evening.
Here are my takeaways:
Firstly, I only played the 2-2-5 (4-card) and not the 5-5-10 (5-card), but at the three tables I played at from 10:00 to 5:30am all featured several limpers preflop. While there was pre flop aggression, it was by no means an all-in fest. While this is only my first impression, and even though I booked a loss ($345) I would rate the games good/better than average and a bit softer than any PLO game in Las Vegas (Aria or Wynn) that I played.
The main reason I can't rank the games higher is the rake. $8 a half hour isn't terrible, but isn't great either. The big issue is they take $3 from every hand for high hand promotions which are almost impossible for PLO players to hit vs. Hold em players as for the hand to qualify in PLO you have to flop it compared to the regular turn and river run out!
8-handed that is $128 an hour rake/time charge, and as all tables (that I saw) were auto shufflers, I believe at least 25 hands an hour is a fair representation.
$128 + $75 is $203 means about $5,000 taken off the table (a $200-$1,000 buy in game!) over a 24 hour period. That is just an absurd amount. Yes, I know some places charge more, but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should in my opinion.
Compare this to the TCH rooms in Dallas, TX, where I mainly play, they take $13 an hour. 9 x $13 is $117. That is a huge difference, especially if you are a daily/professional player.
(Please don't say how expensive it is to run a room. I understand expenses and budgets. I guarantee you TCH, and any room with decent business is making a **** load of money as any owner is allowed to do in a free market society.)
Finally, I will say that the room is nicely decorated and laid out well with plenty of room, and the chairs were decent. Also, I thought the dealers were solid for the most part. I didn't get a chance to check out any food options as I played during the late night hours.
Again, this is just my first impressions and I know there are a couple of other places in South Florida that also spread some PLO that I will check out in the future.

So you spend half of your word vomit calculating the FL rake vs. TX time charge?
Was the Star Wars fanfiction site down for maintenance?
Hi all will be in town around the time the upcoming WPT is on, what are the cash games like in the 5/10+ (NL or PLO) level - would there be long wait lists, what are min/max buyins, what are the games like usually - I guess better when a series like WPT is on?
Thanks

I haven't really played cash at HR for a while, but I'll tell you what I know in case no one else chimes in. Unless it's recently changed the 5/10 had a max buy-in of $2500 and often plays with a mandatory $25 straddle. Games are fairly nitty/ pro infested but there are a fair number of whales injecting money into the games to keep them going. There's often two games going on a typical night but likely more during a series. The games are usually better during a WPT series too. 5-10 games are must move. It's not too difficult to get a seat if you sign up ahead of time on bravo, but sometimes you'll get into a great feeder game then be forced to move to a mediocre main game. It is what it is but it prevents all the table jumping that is rampant at 2/5. Occasionally the list gets long if the room is extremely busy, so for example if you want to play Friday night during a series it's best to get there early in the day to make sure you get a seat.
If you're going to buy in for less than $1k you're probably better off playing 2/5, which also has quite a few pros but an overall better rec/pro ratio and more game selection available.
Games bigger than 5/10 run, but from what I've heard they're often built around a single whale and can be more difficult to get a seat for. But the regular 5-10 is often 5-10-25 anyway. I haven't played it but I know 100-200 NL runs at times. From what I've heard it's typically all pros with something like one whale that likes to gamble, and if the whale leaves the game will break.
During a series there should likely be some bigger games than 5-10 running though that you should be able to get into, like 25-50 or whatever they decide to spread. High stakes sign-in is at the desk in the back corner of the room (for 5-10 and up) There's a floor named Rick that's helpful if you need anything.
Anyway, good luck during the series!

TY! Ecosystem sounds similar to London at the same stakes. If in the US I usually play in Los Angeles (and Vegas ofc) and this is my first time visiting FL in years the last time I played poker in Miami was in Hialeah in a limit holdem game at some race track place, in like 2004, so wondering if Miami compares to La but it sounds like itās more like what Iām used to in London, sadly.

FL games are much more civilized that L.A. games
Hello everybody,
"Finally, I will say that the room is nicely decorated and laid out well with plenty of room, and the chairs were decent. "
Room is nice

I thought the dealers were pretty bad. From what I've seen they are quite bad. If I'm comparing Vegas dealers to here, they get a 3 star, Vegas gets 9 stars.
I also agree that 9 dollars from a 2 2 5 game is pretty high.
I've heard Florida poker hyped up a lot. I haven't been able to decide yet.
