PokerStars NJ

PokerStars NJ

So I live in New York and according to PokerStars you must be located in New Jersey to play online. Well known fact. I decide to go there (NJ) and play a NL cash game. As I'm playing I keep seeing "Verifying your location" pop up and it kicks me out and I have to re-enter. And always when I need to bet a crucial point, so I am auto-folded. Eventually, I just had to stop playing. I got in touch with PokerStars support and first thing they ask is if I'm in New Jersey. Yes, I'm in New Jersey 100%. No debate. I jump through a whole mess of their support hoops before they finally say, "Can you go further into New Jersey". TF is that? No one told me I needed to be in the *heart* of mf'ing New Jersey. It's straight-up nonsense. The state of poker in the US is a COMPLETE joke. I feel like I've been scammed. It definitely had an effect on the outcome of my play.

Geolocation is picking up other states. Just need to be like 4-5 miles in.

Not even that far. I'm less than 3 miles from Staten Island and have no issues using my hotspot or apartment wifi.

Op, how and where are you trying to connect stars? Are you using a hotspot? Are you somewhere remote or sparsley populated?

If that's the case then it needs to be *clearly* stated. Here's what it says when you attempt to access from New York: "Please note that you are only permitted to participate in Real Money gaming while located in New Jersey." There's nothing about 4-5 miles in. New Jersey is New Jersey and if it's not going to work in certain parts of NJ that needs to be stated. Completely ruined my session (and my day bc this was planned). And what if you actually lived in that area of NJ? What then? Of course when I brought this to their attention they basically told me to FO. For $45 (what they owe me from that messed up session) they've pushed me to their competitor, Borgata. I would never have even considered Borgata if they had done the right thing.

Was playing in northern NJ close to the line but not that that close, definitely in NJ. Well populated area. Playing on my iphone, no Wifi or hotspots. You can't tell people you can play in New Jersey and then when they get there, tell them to go further into New Jersey. What tf is that? What if I lived or worked in that area.

How are you giving a location without wifi?

I'm using my phone to play, so 5G or whatever. WiFi is enabled on the phone but I'm not connected to a WiFi network.

So Stars geolocation triangulating off cell towers and other wifi networks. The weather affects their accuracy to precisely confirm you are in New Jersey. Chalk this up as a lesson learned.

I don't really care how their triangulation works. PokerStars claims you need to be in New Jersey to play their games. That is factually untrue. I'm looking at houses in some of those towns, inside New Jersey. So PokerStars needs to clarify whether all of NJ is covered or only after you go 4 miles in or some bs. And the cheapskates still owe me money from that jacked-up session yesterday. I won't forget.

They don’t need to do anything and you’ll never see your $45 again 😂. I hope you donated it to me. Headed out for a couple beers now.
