How am I going to cut back on my poker playing? Is it going to take a big downswing?
I've recently gotten back into live casino NL Holdem, and have been either playing better or running good or both. Averaging about 50BB/100 hands over the last 210 hours. Session win ratio is only 57%.
But I can't stop playing. 210 hours so far in 2024 is a lot for me, especially since I play mostly during weekday daytime hours. Family obligations keep me from playing during weekends and evenings. I have always been a bit of a fitness freak, but now the poker has cut into that.
I work for myself, so I set my own hours, and I am working less because of poker. However, my work actually pays significantly more per hour than poker. But poker is more compelling. More fun. Basically addictive. But it also sucks and is frustrating when I lose a few sessions in a row.
How do other people limit the amount of time they play when they are running good and it is so tempting to keep playing?
I really don't want to hit a big downswing, but I think I need to limit my poker play to like 4 hrs or less per week. Because it feels a bit like poker is taking over my life.
Don't tell me to call GA.

I think the answer is that nobody takes a break while they are running good.
Put poker into your daily/weekly schedule, and stick to your schedule.

Keep playing. Eventually you’ll lose and lose and lose and never want to play again. Such is the way of things.

Sounds like you might need to make a call to gamblers anonymous
I’ve lost 8 of my last 13 sessions. May is going to be a losing month. I’m quitting poker forever.
No, not really. But I’m sort of on a break now. As a result, I’ve exercised 8 hrs in the last 8 days.

For sure I’m going to Vegas this summer to play a couple days of poker. I told my wife it’s a bucket list item. She seems to be reluctantly giving the ok. How many buy-ins should I bring for a 2-3 day trip?

10-15, so you can play at least three hours per day.
