Based on the only true version, the arcade game:
Golden State - Hardaway and Mullin
Indiana - Miller and Schrempf
Orlando - Shaq and Skiles
Phoenix - Barkley and Majerle
Utah - Malone and Stockton
I played a ton as Golden State vs people on the arcade game and would just fire up nothing but 3s for the entire game. I was ahead of the NBA on that one.
they weren't the best statistically, but guessing i used kemp & payton the most due to seattle proximity. and bc they were awesome

I watched a video of 2000 nba video game. Houston had Sir Charles, Pippen & Hakeem on the court against peak Pacers. Smits/Davis/Mullin/Miller/Jackson. I can watch that **** for hours

Looks like that might have been an option in the inferior sequel nba jam tournament edition. Not 100% certain as I never played that version.

but then again, he did put up 29/13 and 5 stocks in the 1st grizz game (a win @portland), so who's to say. i'd prob also have a lame posse in that case

Edit: they have a newer jam on ps3 but I forgot how over the top the gameplay was. I was thinking def. Have it still be over the top but maybe at like 50 percent of what it was I think would be a good balance for the game.

I agree, could do stuff like widen the court a little, also 4 point shot line.
pretty sure i heard echos of tim kitzrow last night (he's on fire) watching luka launch 35 ft swishes every time down. fully expected the net to burst into flames.

Some things are best left in the past though, and NBA Jam might be one of those things. Definitely a game of it’s time that likely benefits from the retro vibes.

This conversation actually reminded me I actually have the Xbox 360 version laying around somewhere and really never played it that much even when it came out. Would probably be difficult for a modern version to compete with 2k
Tecmo NBA for Super Nintendo is still my all time favorite basketball game. The tight controls. The perfect music. The fact that you had complete control over whether the shot went in or out based on how well you timed shooting the ball at the top of a player's jump shot. The fun factor when playing another human was as good as it can get. Now it's all about graphics and profit and nobody cares about fun factor anymore. Those were the halcyon days of video game play. Tecmo NBA was the Blades of Steel of basketball.
