About Me:

My name is Vaughn Davis, I am a full time professional poker player, and ex English teacher. I'm originally from the United States but currently reside in Vancouver, Canada. I play $5/$10 live, and 200nl on Bodog, and app games. I will occasionally play 500nl or higher if I believe it's a good opportunity. I've been playing poker seriously for about 6 years, and professionally for the last year and a half.

What I am Offering:

Because I am brand new to poker coaching, I would like to take on 1 or 2 struggling poker players as students absolutely free for the next 2 months. Why would I want to do this? Because there is nothing more important in any kind of business than transparency. My poker results, or teaching experience alone does not justify anyone paying for me to coach them in my opinion. So I am willing to take on a few students to grow a community, and prove myself as a good coach. If you're interested the only thing I ask is that you're serious about improving, and driven enough to put in the work.

My Overall Coaching Philosophy

In 2024 a winning poker player must posses these things

1. Basic Poker Fundamentals- Before you can go anywhere in poker you must know the true fundamentals of the game. This sounds extremely self explanatory and elementary, but you will be surprised on how many players play seriously for YEARS, without understanding things like; how to calculate pot odds, hand reading, understanding if their hand is a value beater or bluff catcher. In a players development I refuse to move forward into more complex topics until the fundamentals are completely mastered.

2. A Baseline Exploitative Strategy, Against Both Regs and Fish- Before I ever received coaching this was probably my biggest pitfall in poker, my strategies revolved around what I thought was good play based on what I saw others doing, or whatever I felt in that specific spot. The first time I sat down with a coach and developed a sound proof strategy to exploit population tendencies, it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Now I knew what was the correct exploitative line in 80% of spots I played, and I was able to constantly funnel myself into these profitable situations, while using my brain power and energy on the less common more exploitative spots. Many players today are like I was, with very strong intuition and poker intelligence, but lacking a strategy, leading to inconsistent results, and many times a lack of confidence.

3. Skill- What is poker skill? To me skills are tangible things that can be clearly named and practiced. I've identified over 100 skills that top level players have. Pattern recognition, game selection, combo counting, data analysis, logical reasoning, these are just a few examples of skills that separate a solid player, from a truly great player.

4. Emotional management- I truly believe that there have been thousands of players who have the skills and intelligence to make millions and be amongst the best in the world, but they fall apart before reaching their potential because of the inability to control their emotions. Poker is hard on your mind, it's been very hard on mine throughout the years. The key is not in never feeling emotions, but controlling them and staying disciplined, it's also about looking at the mental game as an equally important part of poker. If you can't control your emotions, you can not win.
