A Ruminant Artiodactyl in Vegas: 05/26 - 06/13 TR
Although I don't expect the vegas in Las Vegas to be greener than in Central Europe, in the end I was unable to resist the call of Sin City. This magical place, where many dreams have come true and many more dreams have been shattered...
Oh, screw it - let's get to the facts. I'm a Dutch guy in my 30s currently living in Poland. I have played quite a bit of poker in my life, mostly online cash games. In recent years, I didn't play much poker at all, until I picked it up again last summer. I will have to get used to playing live again, although I do play live cash in Prague occasionally.
This will be my second trip to Vegas (and to the US). I booked a direct flight from Frankfurt, Germany to LV. I'll be staying at Airbnbs like a true nit. The plan is to play tons of 1/2 and 1/3. Additionally, I will play one WSOP tournament: Gladiators of Poker. Even though I consider myself to be the next Phil Ivey, I am aware of the luck factor. So instead of setting the bar too high and expecting to win the tournament, my modest goal is to reach the top three.
Shoe and (partial) roll pic will be posted next week. I don't expect to be updating this TR as regularly as Muck or with HHs as detailed as Whale's, but I'll do my best to make it worth reading.
Really looking forward to this trip. 😀
Sign up on Uber and check their app for prices if you want to go somewhere. Unless it's a super busy time of the day, they are usually a bit cheaper than taxis (in my limited experience).
It sounds like you are staying in a random AirBnB with random people far away from The Strip? What's the reason for not staying in a (luxurious) Strip-hotel? Although I guess you can always move after the 1st bracelet is around your wrist.
It's not too far from the Strip. The nearest bus stop is a 5-minute walk, and the bus ride to the Shoe takes 10 minutes tops.
I like to cook my own meals most of the days, because eating out at the Strip is expensive and usually not vegan. But yeah, if I bink a WSOP tournament, I'll try out a fancy hotel. 😀
It feels nice to wake up in Vegas and think, "Where do I want to play today?", without having to worry about much else. I decided to head downtown and play 1/2 at the Nugget. I had a rough start, but ended up booking another winning session because the games in Vegas are so damn soft.
Later in the afternoon, I set foot in Resorts World for the first time. Obviously, I had to play a session of 1/3 as well. I'll go ahead and post the biggest hand I played there.
EP raises to $11 and gets five callers, including Hero on the BTN with 4♣4♦.
Flop: J♣5♣4♥
Hey, you have to play at least two events. I played two events in my first WSOP appearance even tho I was stoned out of me mind most of the time in my Air BNB close to the RIO, so there's that. In my second appearance, in short, it was not much different but I actually made my first WSOP cash. So like, I guess the message is, just grind, and you will get the moneyz

Good luck Sheep! Off to a good start already! if you're looking for cheap and tasty pints, go to Ellis Island, two blocks East of Paris and [strike]Ballys[/strike] Horseshoe. If you're on the West side of the Strip, the Orleans has a pretty good $1/$3 game and decent tourneys under $350. They did room shares with their bad beat jackpot a few years ago; don't know about nowadays. Don't try to walk there from the Strip, though, 'cause it's more than 3.5 km.
The win streak continues. Played in a pretty good 1/3 game yesterday at the Horseshoe, where I also got a first glimpse at the WSOP area. Then I walked around for a bit and went here:
Caesar's Palace.
I booked a small profit, but it could have been much more, if only I made that hero call on the river (Villain showed the bluff). Anyway, here's a situation I found rather funny. Someone in EP raises to $10.
Dealer: "Raise to $10."
The action gets to SB. However, he is distracted because he's talking to the waitress.
Dealer: "It's $10."
SB turns away from the waitress, looks at his cards, and continues his discussion with the waitress.
Dealer: "It's $10."
SB quickly glances at the table, and continues to talk to the waitress.
Dealer: "$10."
The discussion between SB and the waitress is finished, and the waitress walks away.

I think I'll stick to one WSOP event, and maybe one daily thingy. I'm really not that good at tournaments.

Thanks for the tips. I will walk to The Orleans right meow!
Did he pay the $10?
I actually don't remember. Speaking of $10, today at the Orleans I saw someone winning a $10 pot (two limpers and the BB) and tipping the entire pot.
From my Airbnb it was doable. I got there before 10 AM (still jet-lagged, I guess), so it wasn't too hot outside.
Nice TR sir!
And how did we do at the Orleans?
Picked up a couple of ewes from the strip and rammed them good.

I had plenty of OMCs on my table, as you might expect on a weekday morning. The 90 VPIP whale made the table worth staying at, but I didn't make many good hands against him. I still booked a sick $11 profit though.
My pick-up line:
I had forgotten how nice the WynnCore looks. I'm not at all a luxury guy, but I like the warm colors and neatness. It is definitely a classy place.
Their poker room might be my favorite so far. It has comfy chairs and even its own restroom. As for my session, I couldn't make any big hands, but a couple of small (semi)bluffs got through. So, once again, I booked a small profit.
This hand at 1/2 MGM the other night was kind of funny, and shows how random some people play. I really think they often make decisions on a whim without any plan whatsoever.
UTG limps, a couple of folds, Hero raises to $9 on the BTN with KJo. The blinds fold, and UTG calls. Flop comes KQ7. Check, Hero bets $6, raise to $15, Hero calls.
Turn 8 goes check-check. River is another 8. UTG bets $25, Hero calls, UTG shows...AQ?

Prolly an irrational optimist. "If I bet I can get better hands to fold and worse hands to call."
Fold river.
Or raise river.
What gladiator flight are you playing?
Yesterday at the Aria, I played at a table without a card shuffler. Perhaps they needed the good tables for higher stakes and the ongoing tournament. Some guy paid for other players' straddles for a few hands (just to get more action), which was kind of funny; other than that, it wasn't a very eventful session.
Later that night at the Bellagio, however, I got seated at a pretty good table. I ran hot and won about $700.
Chip stack about halfway through the session.

According to my app, I played there last Monday between 6.30 and 9.00 PM. I don't remember a ton from that session, but I do remember the distinct Mandalay Bay smell.
I must have been at the other table, ours was pretty memorable. before my first hand there was a straight over straight for a $1000 pot to one end of the table, and I went +$1000 from 7-10pm at the other end of the table
