Back door flush and straight draw
Game has become slightly crazy.
Eight handed. Limp, raise, and everyone calls. I have A8h and call from big blind. Original limper reraises and itβs capped (maximum of three raises) to me. I call.
We take the flop eight handed with everyone putting in 4 small bets BTF.
Flop comes 2 6 7 rainbow with one heart.
UTG +1 bets (initial raiser) and everyone calls. Small blind check raises and Iβm next to act.
Whatβs my best play?

Getting like 19-1 or whatever I think you have to call, even if you have only 2 or 3 outs.
I called and it was capped back to me and I put in two more small bets. The turn brought a black four giving me a gut shot and of course I missed. I could have been drawing dead if someone had 89.
A friend told me that I should have folded on the flop. I think my play was pretty standard based on the size of the pot.

Your friend is wrong and I really donβt think you can do anything different.
Your friend is right. You don't even know what odds you're getting as you're nowhere near closing the action, But the betting being capped is much more likely than there being no more raises. I don't know how you even have 2-3 outs. Your only likely outs are runner runner.
A backdoor flush draw is worth around 2 outs and a backdoor straight draw with 3 in a row is worth around 1.5 IIRC. Of course hero needs runner runner (that’s what a backdoor draw is) but he cannot be drawing dead on the flop and has outs to the nuts in a gigantic pot.
Yeah I guess you are right about the (equivalent) number of outs, but you're off on the 19-1 odds. It is way too optimistic to think that there will be no more raises on the flop. I would guess it is very likely that the betting will be capped, and somewhat likely that a few people will fold (which is bad for us, we didn't find out how many people called).
Honestly this situation is so rare that it's not really worth arguing about, but I still think it's a fold. And then a get up and go to the bathroom so you don't see what the turn and river gets were.
If you really believe in the heart of the cards, you cold three-bet it and then put the table on monkey tilt when you get there.
Prior replies have fleshed out the merits of calling vs. folding, so this is my contribution to the thread.

lol I did that in a similar spot and the person I beat out still gives me crazy action 5 years later

I agree with you. Given the crazy dynamics of this game a flop cap seems very likely. Going runner runner is the most likely way you will win this hand. It just seems you will lose even more money when you hit an Ace or an 8 because you can't fold due to pot size. Being OOP is just a recipe for disaster. Who knows what you will ultimately pay to hit your draw. I don't hate the gamble if we are in better position.
I do agree that going to the bathroom is wise. This can ruin your session if you would have taken down a monster pot.
gross but i fold
People form assumptions and then spend the rest of their lives trying to bend evidence and reason to support those initial assumptions. They don't want to acknowledge error. They might have told other people what a donkey he is. They might have formed an entire social group based on that premise. It would be a lot to give up just for the sake of considering future evidence.
