QQ facing all in on J high flop

QQ facing all in on J high flop

$2/$3/$5
$10 straddle on
Effective stacks $420

I am first to act, raise to $40 with Q Q all folds to V in SB, calls the raise.

Flop J 2 T

I bet $80, V goes all in

Pot - $460, $300 to call, what’s my play?

Trivial call (although we would prefer to have AJ to QQ here). You’re 40 BBs deep and have an overpair, you’re beating value (AJ), you can never fold.

I don’t know why you’re betting the flop so large, though.

Yeah, was a bit tilted with losing with KK previously to same V. Similar J high flop, I bet 2/3 pot, call, A high, calls half pot, J river. Check/check and I lose to J7o.

He played that quite passively OOP, but this one is quite aggressive. That’s why I was confused.

Agree flop pot bet is overkill.

Easy call. Flop bet is fine and you can go bigger too.

Anything AJ+ is basically a value call, and I’m bluff-catching at least any Jx.

If the suited cards were the JT then I would agree. But I remember reading a study article and listening to Bart Hanson that on this type of Board Texture the Solvers actually prefer a large sizing, which is counterintuitive for me. Did I get this wrong?

Not sitting in front of a solver at the moment, but by “larger” he probably doesn’t mean a full PSB OTF with a 5:1 SPR

This is really why you should avoid garbage, lock stacked games like this. There's not a lot of strategy here. He might have it. He might not. You're kind of stuck ceiling. He might have 2p, top pair and the SPR is so weird then why not shove.
