try the outside next and then come back and let us know how great painting the inside of a house is 😀
IDK, man. I'm having the outside painted right now, and except for writing the deposit check (and, eventually, the pay-off check), I've barely broken a sweat.
Poor bastards actually doing the work? Not so much. Hope they finish by Wednesday, when the forecast if for 110 F. A brisk 105 F today/tomorrow.
Squid how much pack riding do people do or is everyone just worrying about themselves?

Miami, drafting is not allowed in this event. Everyone in these pretty much does their own thing. That being said SPC and this other guy were riding at the same pace earlier today and spent QT riding together for several hrs. As this progresses there will be more and more seperation between the riders.
No illegals in Australia; they round them up and strand them on a coral reef.

Thanks for the info. The trial and solitude that I imagine she will endure going across the middle of the country is crazy. I have to imagine she will learn a f-ton about herself.
What a total badass.

At least my wife spends our money openly and flagrantly with a smile on her face.

So I’m guessing they have a garmin type device with the route downloaded so they can follow it…. Or ?

The route is broken down into 18 200 mile sections. It is just too big for a single file for their gps systems. The serious riders have made spreadsheets so they know when they have large distances of no services so they can be properly prepped. They also have a spot tracker with a panic button if they get into trouble they can get an assist out. There is a group chat as well.
Yesterday evening SPC got a heads up on the chat that 2 aggro dogs would go after her. She was prepped with her pepper spray and her whistle handy. Turns out the dogs were super aggro and it was during the hardest stretch of the course. So she was exhausted and moving very slowly. The pepper spray was non functional. She also informed me that blowing a whistle when you are completely gassed is quite difficult. She got through the ordeal without being bitten but it was the most scared she has been in a while. She later confirmed that the pepper spray did not work and she has been biking with placebo spray this entire time. I believe a sternly worded letter the the manufacturer is in order
It's a shame that the image hosting is busted on all of Gullanian's excellent letter-writing work in this thread:
I once rode my bike from my house to the 7/11 for a slurpee. If I can do that, she can definitely finish this.
Pretty cool tech they are using to track all of this. I thought they’d be out of state by now, but yeah, duh. The 170+ miles she has now is a f-ton, and it’s just the beginning. Seeing this on a map and tracking it makes one realize how “insane” this is!
Wishing her all the best!
I assume her ride is better than the green Lime bike I use to get to my piano lesson. No shocks is kinda shocking. Go SPC, we may need to modify her initials.
No shocks is fine, just put your weight through the pedals if the bumps bother you, or really just in general.

That’s even more savage than I thought. There is quite the potential of straying off course.
Not sure what terrain she was in when she encountered those dogs, but I wonder if they are some kind of herd protecting dog. We ride dirt bikes north past Steamboat and there are a few of those dogs in that area. SOB’s could give a s*** less if you are on a dirt bike rev’d up. If they think you are threatening them they will attack - and they always seem to be in attack mode.
Hopefully that’s the worst of her encounters. I noticed she’s getting close to the WA/ID border, right behind the other female. 50 year old dude up front is cooking!!!

I remember those dogs when we went camping years back. They were huge and had protective spiked collars, too.
They are finally getting into reasonable riding terrain. Eastern washington has had extremely rough riding. SPC had a light rattle off (lost it, but a rider bihind found it sadly shes too far ahead to retrieve it) and she destroyed a tubeless tire. The going was extremely slow with a fair amt of hike a bike going on for all riders. A trail angel met her with chocolate milk and cookies. He also told her of a great spot (grassy park) she could sleep as the nearest hotel was several hours away. It got cold so she put her emergency bivy in the bathroom and slept there. Doesnt seem like a lot of fun to me but every one has their own deal. Her spirits are significantly higher than i would have imagined and with trail conditions improving dramatically she thinks today can be a big mile day
Gogogogogogogo. Hope she can continue to Beast Mode it!
That is a really clean shitter for a public john

That's scary for sure - did she get a new supply of pepper spray? I assume there will be more dogs to navigate (if not other forms of wildlife) as she goes across the country.
This is a very impressive showing so far and best wishes to her in the rest of her ride.
Thanks for sharing the race tracker, squid. GL to SPC!
