Things you can't believe exist in modern America

i was in the post office the other day and some older guy came in asking if the post office still had the forms to register for the selective service. I forgot that was even a thing then wondered why someone would even want paper forms for it.
Prevalence of fat kids.
Since they're getting fatter every year we shouldn't be surprised they still exist.
We had a power outage last week, roughly 2 hours. I've gotten so accustomed to them happening at least 1-2 times a year that I almost forgot that's not a thing in the rest of the developed world. I had family from Europe in town during that time who reminded me.
It's not very new around here. A few years ago I was looking at some old school pics of classmates that someone posted, and I remember remarking that the kids we teased about being fat back then would not even be candidates for today's fat list.

We don't get a lot of extended outages, but we do get a lot of flickers and brief outages for no apparent reason. We got one Saturday just as the horses were being paraded out onto the track for the Belmont. I was afraid I was going to miss the race. I was furious--not so much at the power company but at Comcast's equipment taking so long to reboot. It came back on as the last 3 or 4 horses were being loaded into the gate. Whew!

"Warped worldview" as in: those who don't believe in the predominant religion of my culture, and never mind that thousands of these cultural stories have been made up. LOL
Warped worldview in that they don't believe babies are born evil, they don't believe in genocide of religious enemies, don't believe in a "love me or I'll kill you" god, don't believe stoning homosexuals, adulterers, or unruly children was EVER moral, don't believe that mindless obedience is a virtue, don't take myths and fables literally as the metaphysics of the universe, don't believe in magical stand ins for our own existence, don't believe sacrifice of goats, people or gods is a good idea, don't believe that the secrets of the existence came out of a barbaric and superstitious time and culture, any more than truths of other disciplines came out of such times.
If you practice the medicine of the 1st Century, if you abide by the physics of the 1st Century, if you believe in the astronomy of the 1st Century, etc. etc. etc. ... just maybe there is going to be a problem with the legitimacy and veracity of your beliefs.
Who has the warped worldview?
America: Home of '...if your beliefs are different than mine then you are my enemy...' Divide and conquer.
