House of the Dragon: Targaryens Still Fighting Over The Most Metal Chair
you're probably not gonna believe this, but ~200 years before GoT there was a bunch of Targaryens battling over who should rule Westeros
House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series that is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019), both based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R. R. Martin. The prequel series was created by Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO and is based on portions of Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are showrunners for House of the Dragon. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen war of succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons".

19 Dragons - apparently this story will have like 19 dragons, each with their own look and personality, so be sure to pick out a fav and buy the action figure etc. however, sounds like we might only meet ~9 of the dragons in season 1.
non-spoilers explainers:

glidus:
season 1 is 10 episodes, starting tonight. then the next 9 fundays.
hopefully it doesn't suck!
Three more days. Apparently, episode 4 is supposed to be a banger according to the critics.
I'm excited.
On Team Queen all day.
She's the rightful ruler!
She was told Aegon's dream.
That made her the rightful ruler!
Alicent is a hater.
lfg
feel dirty after that first episode ending. that chit was messed up
ser criston cole, lord commander of the kingsguard ..... yeah that guy ****s
Not that I condone brutal child murdering but a cock check would work best there bro had the right idea.
I read online about how they did that scene in the books. Made the mom pick, then killed the other one so the child would go its whole life knowing the mom chose them to be killed. Now that’s messed up.
That seems like the kind of evil that people with a personal interest would bother with. Those two seemed like they were just doing it for the cash. Seems like their motivation would simply be to get out ASAP.
In the book, were the killers more personally invested for some reason than the two randoms who carried it out on the show?
They should have asked for more money or titles for what they were doing.

I haven't read the books, just what was posted about that scene. Blood did say he hated the Hightowers when he let Daemon in.
wasn't confirmed until this season, but i think it's implied that they started hooking up last season. especially looking back at it now.
alt shift x made a good point that the same thing happened in the "driftmark" ep last season. viserys went to bed, aemond went out and claimed vhagar, and the kids got into a fight over it. criston was supposed to be on guard duty, but was nowhere to be found. looking at it now, he was probably off banging alicent. a lot of talk in s2e1 about duty, and once again criston wasn't doing his as something terrible happened. unless "duty" is alicent's nickname...
will be interesting if it's possible to pinpoint exactly when that relationship started, probably some time between criston killing joffrey and "driftmark" if i had to guess.
Two pretty strong episodes to start and it's building towards something epic.
I thought episode two finally felt like a GoT episode. It's starting to get really interesting.
I hope this isn't a mini spoiler, but the critics have really hyped up episode 4 as a great episode. After having seen the first two, I can see how it feels like we are building towards a really fun episode soon.
Hope there's a legit dragon fight and not just one instantly killing the other.
Wouldn't mind seeing some armies getting burned too.
hot hotd take that i'll probably regret at some point (but maybe not because condal seems roughly a million times better than d&d): this show is better than got. it's very dense and there's always a lot going on, which i think will make it even better on re-watch once the full story is known. it's not perfect though. saw a video this week about how the scenes with these new characters (the guy building the scorpions, the hull brothers, etc) were flat and lame, and how we probably needed an extra scene or two to build up the relationship between the kingsguard twins, and i agree with that. BUT, the scenes with all main characters were outstanding.
here's 100 minutes of alt shift x and glidus talking about s2e2:

seems like they'll be doing these for every ep, good stuff

both seem extremely likely
Thought episode 2 was a snoozer.
this show is better than got
I'd say it is around got S5-6 quality.
Pretty damn good but a few too many cracks.
really? i thought there were a bunch of banger scenes: rhaenyra/daemon, rhaenyra/mysaria was decent, the funeral procession, basically everything aegon did, espcially the part at the end with otto, etc. and i know everyone hates criston, but i find him really compelling. alicent as well. and the twin fight was good. idk, a lot of it really worked for me.
and i know they're trying to avoid invoking got directly, but i still think it would have been cool if rhynera went down to the dungeon for her chat with the white worm, echoing the great stannis/davos scene from s3:
I love how they've opened up the Westeros settings.
Harrenhall, King's Landing, Dragonstone, Harrenhall, the scene in the fields..****ing everywhere they seem to go then the sets/CGI are great. They feel like real places.
GOT seemed smaller and more repetitive. You'd see a shot or two of the world but never like this. We're getting full view of dragons flying around now.
