Ha - not that time although I’ve had a few plane incidents on the Lon-Syd-Lon route over the years

(Sadly none involving the other root)

fwiw, a lot of the players at mgm springfield are old foxwoods/mohegan regs who actually drive more for springfield

idk why that is (games are soft but i've found they're soft everywhere)

they aren't close so mgm could be too much of a commute depending on where you're at - if you go call them at 413-273-5767 to put your name on the list when you're about 30 min away - i do that every time and i've never had to wait for a table

That makes sense to me. I do think there has been a consensus amongst players I've talked to that the action is better at MGM Springfield. I've played in some incredible games there but I've also played in some games that are indistinguishable from typical Mohegan Sun games (lots of weak tight older regs playing passively). My theory has been that the games at MGM used to be way better than the CT rooms (brand new casino in a new market as of 2018, right in city center) but things have calmed down a bit and the games have gotten worse. I could be wrong though. MGM also has high hand promos, allows for deeper buy-ins at $1/$2, and allows button straddling. All of those things could attract a certain type of regular away from the CT rooms. Plenty of reason to still choose the CT rooms (bigger room, better comps, lower rake, etc) but I certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone who chose MGM.

Does mohegun sun still have those digital poker tables?

No, that was a long time ago when they were re-starting up the room.

I don't think so? I started playing there in 2021 and haven't seen one.

Happy Juneteenth, degens!

I am all for celebrating the end of slavery, but I am weirded out that we chose an anniversary of the day a certain group heard about the Emancipation Proclamation, which was over two years old at that point and also didn't end slavery for everyone, but only in areas under rebel control on Jan 1, 1863 (and then only once the slaves escaped or the federal government re-asserted control).

I guess "13th Amendment Day" on 06 December would be too close to Christmas, so we chose to recognize a day in the summer?

I’m not black so I’m aware my opinion means basically nothing on the topic, but I’ve never cared much about specific days for things and more cared about the celebrations around them.

For example, if i celebrate July 4th on the 4th this year (a Thursday) or on the 6th (a Saturday), it’s less about the specific day and more about the experience I’m enjoying.

I guess my point is that we’re celebrating the end of atrocities and whether we’re celebrating in 6/19, 12/6 or whatever day, it’s more about celebrating it.

Yeah, I get that, and this holiday grew up around organic celebrations, rather than some official pronunciation, which has some value. It's just hard for my pedantic historian self not to rail "but that's not the day X actually happened!" I have the same issue with Christmas, tbh.

Why they didn't make (up) Xmas to be on the winter solstice just seems like a yuge mistake. Like, so obvious, and yet, here we are...

I'm all for celebrating the end of slavery, don't really care what day we celebrate it on. I'll be celebrating at the local this morning, going to throw some bones and play the pokerz.

definitely going to bring a bike out west this summer and would like to join that montana one and we can hit up all the podunk indian casinos out there (there's got to be some right)

Montana "casinos" (99% at least) are usually just bars with a couple of banks of video poker/keno/slots. I don't know of any "Las Vegas style" resort casinos, no pit table games anywhere AFAIK and poker is one or two tables that usually only run in the evening, and only in a few spots. Maybe a weekend or weeknight donkament (LOL two tables) to bring in players.

Would be very surprised if there were any indian casinos, as that would provide some benefit to the tribes, and state laws won't allow that.

Some think they did, but calendar reform threw it off. Several sources claim 25 December was the winter Solstice in the Roman calendar, though I am no classicist. Also, 25 December was the feast of dies Natalis Solis Invicti (Birthday of the Unconquered Sun). Sol Invictus was the main god of the Roman Empire from 274AD until Christianity gradually took over, so it seems a natural candidate for taking over his day too.

I'm strongly for any holiday that gets me a paid day off work.

My fave new one is Day of Truth and Reconciliation (admit it, you think I'm making this one up), now giving us 2 stats in September, yeah!

since i switched jobs last year i've been working with a lot of Cannucks. it took me a long time to realize you guys have shorter work weeks than us Freedom lovers. i thought they just left at noon on Fridays because they wanted to get an early jump on the weekend. jokes on us freedom lovers i guess, with our stupid 40 hour work weeks.... i've also had to resquedule an inordinant amount of monday meetings for candian holidays.

We roll different. We don’t take **** as seriously as y’all tend to do.

Life is short. Have fun. Drink REAL beer. Get it in with a combo draw. Call in hungover once in a while. Just shoot your life shots.

As all good Pastafarians know, every Friday is Holiday!

Christmas is mid Summer bud

So my kid is in town and we are hanging out. We are talking about SPC and Im like yea her birthday is next week. "Oh what date"? I say,"June 19". She sez,"Skwid thats today". Sho Nuff I was off by a week. Luckily spc was cool when i explained why we talked multiple times and i did not mention anything, but boy did I feel like an asshat

Bicycle update: Many contestants have had issues with an array of things. The ones in white are off the program and do not have to abide by any rules. There is a mix of what they are up to. Some are sticking exclusively to paved surfaces, some are being followed by support vehicles, and some are skipping sections all together. These guys have all effectively scratched from the event. As of today there have been 7 scratches with 6 continuing on leaving 12 remaining in the event.

SPC is feeling really good and is aiming for a big day. Unfortunately they have a 20mph headwind with gusts to 29. The good news is she has already cranked out 90 miles and they have been rerouted through an area with good services every 30 miles so she can bike till shes pretty tired knowing there are hotels, food, and water within reach.

Looks like SPC is coming up on Wright, WY. Not much there, but it's all there is for many miles in all directions. Can probably find a bite to eat, water, hotel if those are necessary.

On the map it will appear that she is off course coming up at mile 1233. That is the reroute spot to get to devils tower. Prior to the reroute this was a big push through no mans land in difficult terrain. The lead pro rider (Evan D) suggested the change. So far everyone has done the reroute. If you elect to take the original routes and not do the reroute they have time bonuses. I have zero clue how that works

also math is hard 20 in the event - 7 scratches = 13 (not 12) remaining

.

prolly not the ideal year to forget it given she's out there alone and in pain enduring hardship, with nothing to distract her from her thoughts!

God bless your daughter though - women are just way way better at remembering things like that.

also june 19 was my favourite Grandfather's birthday. RIP Grandpa!

some of more miserable riding days I had were when I've already been on the road for a few hours and just exhausted and then need to contend with heavy headwind

squid, you two absolutely need to look at biking through europe - if you follow a somewhat common route like camino de santiago or via claudia then there are hostels/inns in every town to accomodate you so you're never more than 20km or so from a place to stop for the day

camino de santiago is especially awesome because it has about half a million people do it each year and passes through small abandoned spanish countryside towns where most buildings are empty except for the inns and cafes that cater to the pilgrims

you can stay at a hostel place called an albuerge (spelling) for like 10 euros a night and all the restaurants have the "pilgrims menu" which is between 5-15 euros and is a 3 course meal that comes with a big bottle of water and house wine - pro tip is for one of you to ask for red and the other to ask for white and then they'll bring you two bottles whereas if you both ask for white you'll just share a bottle

we stayed at some pretty dope albuerges, places that used to be monasteries or churches were always the coolest

also, wtf, nobody in the thread has a pee in the hotub issue other than the pooping welshmen?

and garick, was not expecting to see you posting in that dating thread - please make some posts giving helpful tidbits on how to starch and iron your shirts before tucking them in 😀

Never had an urge to go whilst tubbing, rr. Everywhere else in this friggin' world since I turned 65 a few years ago.....
