NBA 2024-25 Season Thread
Lettuce NBA!
and lettuce lol @ James Harden
The Tatum hate is 2 things for me :
1) I think a lot of people had him on a BPITL trajectory given how absurdly ready he was and despite being in a great organization, it never got there and Celtics fan (BS being a prime example) are not ready to move on from the fact he's not a top 5 player ITL
2) It's the NBA and the public always needs to have a loser to have a go at on Twitter. Luka was the best player in the series, Kyrie already overachieved for the season (and so did the Mavs) so I think people just picked on Tatum sucking and getting outplayed by his tier 2 teammate
Imagine knowing so little about basketball you call a 3 time first team all NBA player “low ceiling”. The game must completely confuse someone like that.
In news that should shock no one, Pascal back to Indy.
Contract is a little surprising tho. Was expecting fullax, 5/245, looks like 4/189 instead. Love that
Speaking of bags, Monty out of Detroit after one year. Still owed $65M...
Tatum’s ceiling is the lower end of top 10 player in the nba which is perfectly fine. He’s not now nor will he ever be a generational talent, so I guess temper your expectations if that’s what you’re going for
He’s a dog to ever win a single mvp

For me the tatum hate is:
1. He’s definitely overrated. Really good player, borderline elite, but ya, agree entirely with your 1
2. Big Russell Wilson corny as **** energy. The amount of effort he put into trying to be a meme post championship was the lamest **** I’ve ever seen. Made me so damn happy brown won mvp cuz it was so obvious tatum wanted that to be his moment and he was legit pissed he got it taken away from him

**** is wrong with you? I was saying his ceiling is lower than the 10-15 other best players in the league, most of which are either A. better than him in general or B. Have been top 5 players in the league at some point in their careers and given a period of full health would possibily be better than him. I say in the post I'd have him top 8-10 in the league based on his high floor/reliability as tiebreakers over many of them given the grind of the modern game. Obviously can fit into any team easily too, easy guy to build around yada yada
I said 5 ****ing posts above that or whatever that I thought he should've won finals MVP, what more do you laundry bros want?
If you disagree with that then whatever but I'm obviously not comparing him to Brandon Ingram here.
This ain't ****ing twitter, act right
He's just a very high floor/low ceiling type player, which doesn't exactly lend itself to people waxing poetic about you
I don't disagree, but I would add that high floors and durability are very valuable in the real world. I think you agree. Healthy AD is very good, probably better than Tatum, but that doesn't help much when he is in street clothes.
I expect Tatum to remain durable. His game doesn't involve a lot of awkward plays and hard landings.
Read my whole post.

Who is he overrated by though? Basically no one has him top 5 that I know of.
Ringer had him 7th, think Dunc'd on guys had him 7-8ish....And most of the quibbling of him vs player X is just basically how far removed you think player X is from their primes or how much of a durability edge tatum has (curry, kawhi, AD, bron, butler)
I think he's properly rated, just kinda unappealing as the best player on a team that is perennially top 3 in the league in preseason title odds. People are used to that player being more of a top 5 itl, top 25ish all time great type

Lot of words to type - could just write "Celtics won and it makes me real sad."
It is absolutely wild how casual basketball fans like you forget defense is a thing. Tatum shot bad. He was amazing at literally everything else. More assists than Luka, fewer turnovers than Luka. More to basketball than just putting the ball through the metal round thing.
But he's generally good at shooting, too! I know you're new to hoops, you should check these games out:
Game 7 versus Sixers (game 7 means it's the deciding game in the series)

Game 6 down 3-2 to Bucks

Look man, look at the people who agree with you that Tatum has a low ceiling. It's Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kendrick Perkins. They get PAID to be dumb. And you're out here just giving it away for free!

I'm a Celtics fan you idiot
And I don't follow any of those people you mentioned for obvious reasons (sounds like you do though)
I don't have the same biases for/against any of these people that you do. Guys making 5m a month either way and he wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, so I'd calm down a bit.
Modern social media has wrecked these kids.
"I don't have the same biases"
"A guy who is back to back to back All NBA has a low ceiling."
lol.

bro I said he should've won finals MVP and I have him top 8-10 in the league. Go read my original post. You obviously just looked at RTs cherry picking of my post and didn't read it.
I know you're wound up because social media has you thinking your laundry allegiance is really important, but I don't care. You sound like a little kid/troll.
I did read your original post. It's dumb as hell.
if it was about "who would you rather have for a playoff series?" i'd probably have tatum closer to 12-15
He's just a very high floor/low ceiling type player
Kendrick Perkins-level takes. Poor man's Skip Bayless. Embarrassing.
I'd love to see the list of 15 players you'd take over Tatum in a series. It's gonna have some real laughers on there.
High floor/low ceiling compared to the other very best players in the league. He's about the 8th-10th best player, it doesn't really feel like he'll ever be better than that. Hollinger/Duncan/Leroux/Ringer all have him between 6-9. I didn't look up anything besides that.
People just want something closer to top 3 guy who is a transcendent generational talent for a perennial title contender, thus why many (and you can read the other comments in this thread) don't like him. Take it up with them.
I think I have Tatum properly rated, a good knowledge base of his skillset. He's very good at everything, not really great at anything. I see why it leaves people wanting more, although I don't really care about that stuff. Liking/hating athletes and what not. I just thought the hate he was getting after the Celts title was worth bringing up.
That was fascinating. The refs loved blowing their whistles. Chamberlain was definitely too injured to continue. Bill Russell as head coach/player is pretty cool.
The officials were Mendy Rudolph & Earl Strom. They both always seemed to think they should be the show. Consider them forefathers to, for example, Joey Crawford.
Tidbit trivia: Don Chaney was a rookie on the 1969 team. Got 10 minutes of playing time in that series. Chaney is the only player to have ever been a teammate of both Bill Russell & Larry Bird.
RIP Brink's knee. That was a gross slip.
Jeff Van Gundy has agreed to join Ty Lue's staff as the Los Angeles Clippers' lead assistant coach. Van Gundy spent the past season as an advisor with the Boston Celtics.
Tatum's ability aside, this **** is goofy. It's like he's doing some sort of post-modern performance art, or he's just corny
