Caesars Poker Room to close for remodeling? mid July
Played today and the word going around is the rooms closing for remodeling. Not sure on the date of closing (heard maybe July 16) or reopening, but one of the dealers did say they offered to give him a job in Laughlin in the meanwhile.
If it does close hopefully it does actually reopen and not just disappear.
The optimist in me says CET can't possibly axe another poker room after Flamingo and PH.
Caesar's Palace is meant to be their premium property, and premium properties usually spread poker (Venetian, Wynn, Bellagio, Aria, Resorts).
If they want to keep up with the Joneses then hopefully that means investing in a nice room instead of shuttering another one for more slots.
about time... add free parking to.

To be honest Horseshoe has WAY more action than Caesars. Day time there are games but nighttime I’ve walked past the room many times and it was completely dead. Overall I am pretty sure that they are losing money keeping a room running that sees no action for 6-8 hours a day 7 days a week.
It would also be great for the poker economy if the room closed permanently, less diluted crowd and more people forced to play the bigger poker rooms.
Can you give me an example of when a poker room closed and it turned out to be great for the poker community?

Before the new Horseshoe poker room opened, I remember reading a rumor about Caesars wanting to consolidate all their poker there and that the room at Caesars Palace would close.
As someone who views this completely different than MuckPls above (I want as many different options as possible), I hope they do not close it. But it would not surprise me if they are going in that direction, since big corporations only think about money and nothing else.

That might have to do with the overall Caesar's clientele. Years ago we went to OMNIA a couple of times and I remember walking out of back to the Strip it felt kinda dead. 10 minutes later you stand in line at Earl of Sandwich at PH and the place is still buzzing.
No shame in closing your room from 2AM to 8AM (I assume CP gets busy earlier than other places) if there's no business.
I just played a little 1-3 and 2-5NL at Caesar’s yesterday or maybe the first time ever. I thought the game quality was good, much better than I’ve seen at the Bellagio or aria lately could also be my small sample size during WSOP this week and maybe the Caesars room is really not that great.
I also don’t think closing of rooms and further limiting. Our options is a good thing.
The corporation is in business to make money. If the poker room isn't making the return that the bean counters expect then they will probably close it. Pretty sure on a square foot basis video poker makes way more profit than a poker table.

CP was one of my favorite rooms back in the day. Solid location in between the casino floor, sportsbook, and nightclub. Hopefully they don’t move the location during the remodel.
The games can be a little dusty during the day when the grinders are there trying to get diamond status. But from what I remember the night games were pretty good. It didn’t really ever seem to have that many euros for w/e reason. Hope it stays open
BTW, it's not the poker room that's getting the remodel. It's the high limit slots room that's getting updated. The plan is to have the high limit slots takeover the poker room's location in the meantime.
Isn't this how it worked with the Harrah's room, rumors of remodel/closure and then it closed and never came back.
Didn't Flamingo go away similarly also?

If you're a gambling establishment that can't stay open 24 hours a day, it's a signal that you're unable to generate business 24 hours a day. In the gambling game, that makes you second rate.

That old room had good tournaments.
And Crap! I had planned on a stay at Caesars in September.

They are second rate anyway. If they weren't, the room wouldn't be dead at night.
It's not like there aren't any other poker rooms in Vegas that aren't open 24/7. At least in the past Mandalay Bay and Sahara closed at some point and didn't reopen til noon. Pretty sure that's not the only ones.

That checks out, I did hear something about high limit slots but not that complete picture.
So there's a chance they just move all the tables and put them all back and the room carries on after as usual
They are closing it for good. At least that’s what a CP dealer told me last week.

Yes, if I recall correctly, Caesars drafted all of the Flamingo dealers to deal the WSOP that year, then announced at the end of the series that the Flamingo room would not reopen. Very shitty behavior -- if the dealers had known that their job was disappearing, they could at least try to get into another big room at the start of the summer series.

To maximize profits, a casino operator needs to offer a mix of gaming channels. That does not require poker to be in that mix necessarily.
(Many years ago, I was given a spreadsheet for a thriving, meaning busy, poker operation at Stations. The room was profitable to it ending, but was eventually closed.)
Face it, poker players are the red-headed stepchildren of live gaming

Mandalay closed all day on Tue. The other six days I think it closes at 4am.
Outside of Vegas lots of rooms close early in the am.
After the Venetian poker room remodel, there won’t be any reason to play anywhere else in Vegas..
Caesars is mostly just a 1/3 NL room anyway. Outside of the WSOP it doesn’t even get many 2/5 games.
