Sup June?
Yeah, I get the park thing.
I did ask him why and he replied that everyone was too busy to do it earlier. I was stupefied by that answer and was unable to conjure up any follow up questions.
Son is getting married next month. It is an outdoor wedding in a park. Whatever they want.
Here's the thing, it doesn't start until 5pm. What the hell? That seems awfully late to me. Am I out of touch? I'm pretty sure, nobody in the history of mankind has ever started a wedding that late.
Maybe they wanted to avoid the hottest part of the day 1-4pm since it's outdoor in a park?
Also, congratulations!

were the invitations distributed via doodle poll?
don't have a good sample size of wedding times for an informed opinion, but later in the day should have much better light for photographs.
hope the bride is wearing her underpants and the maids their sun dresses.
Park wedding is vg if it avoids getting gouged for giant $$ by wedding venue operators. the price of weddings these days is absolutely obscene. As are divorces...as I am sadly learning
once rented a basement room from a late 40's just married couple.
they divorced before he could pay off the honeymoon credit card
Daughter is getting married next June. I was just given a tentative budget for that.
**** me.
I didn't even know that father of the bride paying for the wedding was still a thing these days. Except for traditional settings where the parents force their kids to invite the whole extended family including 100 people who are called uncle or cousin but aren't even really related. If the latter is the case for you, good luck.
In the very distant future where my daughter might get married, if she asked for money for her wedding I'd tell her to get a better job or marry someone with more money.
Nobody paid for my wedding and I'm certainly not going to pay for someone else's.

Our daughter got married in our yard and had the reception there as well. The wedding was probably at 5pm. It should have been later as it was too damn hot! The severe thunderstorm during the reception cooled things off nicely although the DJ didn't appreciate his equipment getting soaked.
Thank goodness there was no SRM-style orgy in the house!
Grats!
It's in Oregon so it shouldn't be too bad.
Thanks for the congrats.

Double the tentative budget and add a random number!
Grats/condolences.

Honestly, it’s a way to get money to her that she would eventually inherit anyway. She understands that. She didn’t ask, I offered.
I just need to die a little early and it will all work out.
everyone's wealth situations are different but if I had spare cash to give my kids down the track it will go to help on a downpayment on a home rather than on a wedding.

I guess you didn't have the very necessary pregnant woman to participate.
Niece got hitched back east in New Hampshire Memorial Day weekend (~month ago for my non-American friends). Ceremony was at 5pm, last shuttle back to the hotel from the reception was 10:30pm. This seemed very reasonable to me.
I believe my own ceremony was at 5pm (maybe 5:15?) outside in Phoenix, but that was in March, and the weather and light/sunset were perfect at that time of year. Gonna be light out til 10pm in Oregon this time of year, right? I'd consider 7pm start...

So the actual party didn't start until 11PM? Sounds very European to me.

This is always the correct answer for anyone logical. Unfortunately, logic goes out the window for "every little girl's dream".
Not that I recall, but there were several of the requisite age and a couple of those could have passed handily.
I know it wasn't happening in the master bath as that is where I was keeping the champagne iced until we needed to refill the coolers under one of the funeral home tents. And our bedroom was safe as I had to pass through it on my frequent champagne fetching runs. If it was happening anywhere else, ok by me.
That got me thinking, are there any tax benefits to gifting early compared to inheriting the money? Unless you're above that $14mil or whatever it is estate tax threshold.
In Germany, for a child only the first 400k of an inheritance are tax-free* but before that you can use those same 400k every 10 years as a tax-free gift. So people with some money have to start transferring assets to their kids early.
*with plenty of loopholes for real estate that you live in yourself and a million different deductibles.
If it was produced in the Champagne region, you're my hero and I don't have any issue with that.
Yes an individual can gift up to $18k per year tax free to as many people as they want. For couples it’s $36k combined. For 529 college savings plans specifically you can superfund 5 years at once, or $90k for an individual / $180k as a couple.
The person receiving the gift. Inheritances and gifts are actually grouped in the same capital transfer tax code.
Two years ago I had to spontaneously fly to Germany on 12/30 to have stuff in-person notarized so it would still count for 2022. Flying back on the morning of new years day, hadn't seen so many tired and hungover people on a plane since the good old days of Mallorca weekend trips.
My son and fiance are getting married in Portugal next May.
What am I expected to pay for these days?

First of all, I would like to congratulate your son and his prospective husband.
Next, since there are no fathers of the bride, everybody is off the hook.
Lastly, if you don't have a passport, you need no additional excuses.
Grats!
