2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
Biden steps down, delegates at convention support Newsom
The hard part is getting biden to step down, the after is easy
I truly believe this scenario is why this debate happened before the conventions in case this was needed
Biden stepping down is easy, they take him off.
The 900 part includes Newsome winning the important states.
I listened to about 5 minutes of the debate around 30 minutes in and then had to turn it off.
Biden was barely coherent, and Trump (frankly) sounded exactly like the current SNL parody of him, talking again about how rapists are coming across the border. Embarrassing for both parties, and for the country as a whole.
Kamala struggling
Man **** being American where you view elections like a boxing match. Deciding the future of your country shouldn't be a man vs man debate

I guess I liken it to the UK’s situation today. 7/4 is a referendum on the Torries and nothing more
Abandoning Biden with his popularity being at the bottom and after this fiasco gets back to this being a referendum on Trump and MAGA, which is the only chance the DNC has
Biden and Harris are catastrophically unpopular and tonight made it worse
Newsom is only +800 because biden is ahead of him. Hard for me to believe trump is a 2:1 favorite h2h against him. And I hate Newsom

I gave it a good 40 minute try, it never deviated from this pattern. Trump just spouting nonsense to lock in support for his base, probably for those who may still be on the fence after his myriad of new legal problems, and Biden mumbling the best he can remember from his talking points and on at least 2 occasions just ending a sentence prematurely because he lost his train of thought.
To be absolutely clear, trump was a disaster in this debate. Every word out of his mouth was either: 1. A lie 2. Rambling irrelevance 3. Ignoring what was asked to say what he wants to say
The bar to beat that with his record wasn’t very high. There’s no defense for keeping a candidate who got absolutely housed by that

This is accurate
But it helps Trump

I understand your point but Newsome isn't the clear choice here and I think it's accurate that trumps odds have also done well since this debate when factoring in his competition become weighted towards newsome.
I think Biden does better in the swing states compared to newsome and I think the real **** up for the dems was letting biden debate.
When you break down Wisconsin and Michigan, youve got a serious problem, and youve completely lost any hope of florida.
Newsom all over the post-games. It's plain as day what is happening. He would shred Trump in a dabate and it would be hi-larious, but Trump would smartly never do that with a 'fake' candidate. Newsom would certainly roast him constantly, though.
I personally just want a strong leader that isn't past retirement age. Is that too much to ask?
The other unknown for me is, what the heck would they do with Kamala Harris? Seems uncertain.

Well the defense is obvious. It's not clear at all how to pick another nominee at this stage.

Yep
When in argued months ago that it the dems let Joe debate they will lose in was I laughed at

They should have put in newsome a year ago

You think they can put in newsome and kick out Kamala?

I preface all this by saying I live in california, I’m a registered dem, I voted for Newsom, voted against the recall and I absolutely despise Gavin Newsom
Having said all that. I think you’re really underestimating how little is required to beat trump. Biden v Trump was a solved game in nevada, probably Michigan considering the protests, and problematic in wisconsin, arizona and Georgia. Winnable, but would require a lot to go right
Tonight was the actual opposite of a lot going right. 4 months away from the election and before the DNC is probably the right time to shake people out of their apathy and disgust towards voting between one of 2 ancient clowns by putting in a known name of a 56 year old governor of a major liberal state when the only people who know he’s a charlatan piece of **** are the state of california, who will still vote for him, and his ex/DJT jr’s wife
More CNN post poll numbers

In a hypothetical situation where biden isn’t the candidate what I know with absolute certainty is it won’t be harris. She is absolutely reviled, has zero charisma, and you can’t sit there going against trump with Biden’s VP when people as it is don’t like biden
before the debate I was arguing with friends that Harris wouldn’t even be the running mate cuz biden desperately needed a progressive to bring back votes who have turned on him. Harris definitely wouldn’t be newsom’s running mate if it came to that but the bench is so short that if you’re starting from scratch there aren’t many options. Butegieg? **** maybe throw a Hail Mary and go AOC?
I've suggested this previously but no one addressed it to agree, disagree, or even laugh about it.
Replace Harris on the ticket with (Barack) Obama and the quiet understanding that he will be main decision maker.
Then if Biden dies or becomes completely incapacitated, Obama will take over the presidency. There is nothing in the constitution to prevent this from happening as far as I can tell. I have seen articles online debating this, but it looks to me that according to the exact constitutional wording, he could become VP (either by appointment or election) and then could become president in the same way other VPs have been.
