Let's talk about Stream and buy mountains of games
I thought we might like to have a Steam offers catch-all thread, and maybe even any general discussion about the service.
Like many of us here I have been using Steam since it first appeared with Half Life 2. Initially it seemed pointless and intrusive, but we put up with it because, well, we needed to play CS:S and HL2. Over the years I have found myself buying more and more from Steam and now I pretty much exclusively buy my games there. In fact Valve have so got their model sorted that I would pay a few dollars more for the ease of having it in my Steam collection rather than the hassle of hard copy install.
This is not really necessary though since these days if you wait around for offers you can end up owning more than you can ever play. I have Batman, Far Cry 2, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, Torchlight and much more just half played or not played at all. All of these have been purchased at a reduced rate.
Anyway rather than waffle on further the reason I started this thread is to point out
--->
Left 4 Dead was my game of 2008 but I had enough other stuff to play and was a bit pissed off that they released 2 so quickly afterwards that I didn't buy it at full price. Now I am immediately picking it up. Sadly for you hardened players you can expect a wave of n00bs to arrive due to this deal.
That is all, feel free to add any good Steam offers as and when they appear to this thread and also to discuss the Steam service in general.
I'm on West 3!!! (Final puzzle world) I couldn't figure out and skipped the West 2 statue requiring a device to complete it. Ugh, I worked on it for several hours too.
I'm done (although who knows?) and went back and started working on Golden puzzles and these pointless sparks/flames. And yeah I need to go back to that triangle puzzle in S3... 😉

Congrats! So to open the Golden gate puzzles, how many normal puzzles or triangles can you skip? Seems to be none.
So far my not finished list is:
S3 statue
W2 statue
W3 just started
I've done all regular puzzles (incl. triangle) and I used a flame for the one in S3. I went back to E1 and was working last night on the Golden Door there but got stuck on the last step (it was 11pm) so went to bed. No idea what's the exact rules, I don't look up anything to avoid spoiling.

Tonight I finished the last of the West 3:P1-8 and triangles. Tomorrow, I'm going to tackle the lab, statues (At least the easy one) and walkway to the laser.
The West 3 puzzles just seemed like leftover stuff. No new mechanics, just find the "trick" to solve the room. Kind of weak imo.
The Talos 2 puzzles also seemed simpler in design than Talos 1. Where's the grand sprawling challenges of the old game?
Still a fun game that I would recommend.
Golden Lab puzzles are goat though, I'm progressing very slowly and still on 3/12. I agree with your points, I wonder what DLC brings, but not getting it yet. I'll skip statues, I don't care for them, chasing a spark is pointless and I have no patience for the riddles (how do I have patience for the rest hehe? I'm even considering going back to the Witness and tackling it lol)

I finished everything but the golden doors and a West 2 statue and South 3 statue.
I couldn't figure out how to solve the West 2 statue the correct way so I stole a device from a puzzle. Whatever works... :p
I then tried the West 2 golden door puzzle. Pretty tough!
Another late-to-the-party game for me, LEGO City Undercover. Holy hell, this game is a blast.
P.S. Oh ****, it’s summer sale time.
My personal absolutely favourite game is now 90% off for just 2€:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/50423...
I really believe this game is perfect.
edit: back to Talos spam I've done 6/12 golden door puzzles, I'm loving it. I'm reading DLC reviews every couples days and not only the DLC basically doubles the content but also improves some of the parts particularly with regards to difficulty. It matches Talos 1 DLC in that regard. I think I'll buy it soon (no discount during the sale for now but it's on sale on Fanatical for 20% less)
Im just about done with Talos 1, very enjoyable and found a good 'guide' for hints for the gold stars.
Celeste is great.
Lego City Undercover - I got that for Wii U included when I bought my Wii U used on OfferUp. The game was fun, but like most Lego games, gets repetitive at the end, especially if you are someone who tries to 100% every game they play.
Nothing on my wishlist is super deeply discounted so probably not going to bother.
I finally picked up Kenshi. Looking forward to sinking some serious time into it.
Yes, another disappointing sale (like they've all been since Steam stopped making them fun) - I was thinking of picking up Elden Ring, but it's only 30% off. I'm pretty sure it's been 50% in previous sales, so guess they're cashing in on the DLC.
Did pick up V Rising though (also just 30% but a lot cheaper initially) and really enjoying it. Kind of Diabloish (though not really), but with base building and sucking blood included.
I love Kenshi - brilliant "do whatever you want"-type of game.
And I'm looking for excuses to try a game or two. There's a few oldies I want to go back to, but I guess I'll just bide my time for Hades 2 and StS 2.

My son loves Celeste! I find it a bit too hard. You need to put together a string of perfectly timed jumps, leaps and grabs. Fail? Back to the start. Rinse repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat *hour goes by* repeat Ugh.
On Talos 2, I finished all the game (I think) outside of the Gold doors. I've done some of the gold doors but stuck on South 3... I can't figure out the trick.
i like the games where you basically work a spreadsheet but they hide that from you with graphical interfaces
civ 1-4 (5 was so bad that i never played 6)
football manager
crusader kings II & III
europa universalis IV
thoughts on stuff i should look for?
rick,
Have you tried Stellaris? Same Paradox grand strategy goodness, but in space.
I’m really interested in Manor Lords, but always wary of early access.

no i haven't, from my experience going from crusader kings to euiv, it definitely feels like the same game, so much that a few times i've tried to do something only to later realize that's a mechanic in the other one
but will check it out, thanks for the rec
i've too seen the stuff for manor lords, it looks like it could possibly be the perfect game for me, but also looks like it could be absolutely terrible
Mash,
In Talos 2, so far I got golden doors e1, e2, e3, n1, w2
Tried S3 and failed. These things are TOUGH.
I'm on my last two W2 and W3 but I used 3 sparks for the S2 one and not sure if I go back. I retried S3 triangle but also unsuccessfully lol. S3 golden I did fairly quickly I think. Yeah they're tough and awesome. 😀 Most of them have a 'clear' solution which won't work because of a reason and you have to figure out how to overcome it.
As mentioned before I take hints from puzzle titles and in this one I immediately knew/felt what I'm supposed to do and spent 10 minutes tinkering a solution around it.
Completed all Golden Doors apart from S2 where I used 3 sparks that I had. S3 triangle remains uncompleted as well, I decided to progress with the story, not sure if I come back to those two to finish them. Completing W2 Golden was something else, what a feeling! I even drew on a piece of paper... 😀
Nice job! I've been slacking the last couple days.
s3g is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy harder than w2g. lol 😀
