Happy Paul George Option Day
C'mon unban the dude cause the back and forth was mild compared to my glory days.
This is Sporting Events, where people come to see what I have to say and what my penis looks like, not other reasons.
dubnjoy, instead of apologizing, decided to double down.
ya i like the edey pick a lot, worth the gamble in a lame draft, guy was basically shaq in college
probably went to 1 of the best teams he could go to in the grizzlies
obv likely to just be too slow and bust, but all these guys seem likely to bust so who cares
Even Edey at #1 is justifiable in this draft - I think a lot of people aren't understanding that the ability to post up efficiently significantly limits optionality on the defensive end, kind of like how the ability to shoot and spacing mattered a ton in the 00's and early 10's even if teams weren't shooting 3's that much.
Zach Edey has the potential to completely break what a lot of teams are able to get away with on the defensive end (i.e. going small, switching screens, having small guards on opposing centers and daring them to post up) and probably brings more effective gravity than most 3-point shooting centers. He's going to draw a lot of fouls, teams are going to have to send help once he has position and at that point, the NBA spacing is only going to benefit him.
Defensively, he's a 7-4 drop big with a 7-10 wingspan that moves as well as most 6-11 NBA centers. He should eventually be a positive on that end even if he starts out bad initially (which most first-year players are). There's no player in the NBA right now that are agile enough to switch onto guards and not be a liability, have the size and athleticism to protect the rim at a high level and are big enough to hold up against top offensive big men. It's a pick 2 out of 3 type of deal and Edey projects to be able to 2 of these things. That's more than you can say about a lot of centers right now.
This feels like the Steph Curry draft all over again where people over-index on what types of players are stars right and what the player was asked to do in college rather than thinking about the game of basketball and the fundamental skills and attributes the player brings to the table.
Edey reminds me of Frank Kaminsky . I feel like most of those guys end up busting in the NBA.
Raptors officially fleece Knicks as final details emerge from OG Anunoby trade. The final pieces of the OG Anunoby trade have fallen into place, with the Toronto Raptors getting three players and the Knicks overpaying their one.
The Toronto Raptors have to be feeling good about the OG Anunoby trade. They felt pretty good in the weeks immediately after the December trade, when Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett were balling out and there was genuine chemistry forming between them and Scottie Barnes. Injuries disrupted everything about the last two months of the season, but Toronto picked up two legitimate starters and building blocks of the future in the deal.
The Knicks got a really good player in the trade but were then forced to overpay him, a decision that won't kill them in the short term but could look really bad in five years when Anunoby is 33 years old and not the same defender that he is now.
The Raptors, on the other hand, have three different players. They got a difference-maker at point guard in Immanuel Quickley with miles of untapped potential, a hometown wing in RJ Barrett who played the best basketball of his career in Toronto, and a locker-room warrior and prospect with upside in Jonathan Mogbo.

mcmuffin just mad that the knackz don't have a locker-room warrior and prospect with upside in jonathan mogbo
and that thibs is a donk who will destroy all his players
but mostly because
Only a Knicks homer would think there are "Knicks haters" in the thread. Please don't ban me
Edey reminds me of Frank Kaminsky . I feel like most of those guys end up busting in the NBA.
They are only comparable in the sense that they were good in college, they are not comparable from an athletic standpoint. Edey is 4 inches taller in terms of height, 11 inches longer in terms of wingspan, is 70 pounds heavier and is still a faster and more explosive athlete. Kaminsky relied on polish and skill to make up for poor physical attributes as an older player, Edey is a complete physical outlier and was already a more efficient scorer as a sophomore than Kaminsky ever was in college, despite having like 4 years of organized basketball experience at that point.
Centers with Kaminsky's measurables generally struggle defensively in the NBA while centers with Edey's measurables tend to be good rim protectors, which have historically been the most valuable defensive archetypes. Edey was far more dominant as an interior scorer than Kaminsky in college and him being a physical outlier even at the NBA level bodes well, whereas Kaminsky is big and skilled for a college player, but has no outlier attributes at the NBA level.

I meant more of how good they were in college and gms thought Kaminsky was going to be good. He wasn’t .
adam morrison aint walkin thru dat door

Kaminsky was overrated for the exact same reason that Edey is underrated. Kaminsky is a terrible athlete objectively (he was slow as hell despite just weighing 230lbs and very short relative to his height at just 6-11 wingspan) but because he grew up around basketball so relative to others, he looked good enough from a basketball perspective that people thought he could do okay defensively at the NBA level. Edey is objectively an outlier athlete relative to his size and there are zero objective concerns from an athletic standpoint at the NBA level, but because he's new to the game, so there are situations he reacts slowly to, so people have this idea that he's too slow, despite the numbers saying otherwise.
Edey was also a lot better than Kaminsky even in college - it's not that comparable from an impact perspective. The lesson from Kaminsky is that you should value attributes that can't be changed more than polish and skill right at this moment (sure there are limits to this), which if you take it to its logical conclusion, means you should take Edey #1.
PG declines his ~$50M player option and is a FA. That means he can't be S&T'ed any longer since he can no longer opt into that option year.
He'll have to either re-sign or sign into cap space with:
Sixers
Pistons
Magic
Ok then
taking his talents wayoff south beach (disneyworld)
would be interesting in philly too
wonder if anyone else can open up the space to sign him...
Seems pretty transparently clippers or Sixers
Speaks to the state of the dubs that he shut that down
So Warriors aren't getting Podcast P and Klay is leaving for nothing? In a loaded West?
Guess the countdown to Curry/Draymond being dealt is on
Wiggins could help a team a lot as well if his head is on straight

Yeah the Sixers have been clear that they were going to try and pair another max level player with Embiid (for donor tissue if nothing else). PG has been a target since the plan started
I don't see the Warriors ever trading Steph
