The NHL Thread
For the 5 of us who post NHL stuff, here you go. Officially the season starts Tuesday October 11, although there were tw
bumz just drafted the french mark jankowski lol
Myers had a good year/postseason. His previous years were terrible. He's getting paid 50% of what he used to make. If he plays like he did this year it's good
agreed, i just know thread hates him so posted it
but yeah, that's a cheap salary if he's a contributing player
he did make at least one big mistake in one game i watched which led directly to an edmonton breakaway goal
It now begins!
Tampa is unloading players, Sergachev is to Utah, Stamkos sounds like he is gone, Jeannot is to LA.
Logan Thompson to the Caps.
Feels like Sergachev salary dump is so that TB can bring Stamkos back…
They already made a very offensive offer to him. Maybe he tells them to pound sand.
sergachev has been better than stamkos the last couple years, so i wonder if it has anything to do with the former's injuries, as he was limited to 34 games last season + playoffs. stamkos seems pretty old and busted, whoever signs him will probably lose. he was their worst player by xg in the playoffs lol, and not much better during the season.
looks like a decent pickup for the fightin yetis, unless those guys they gave up are any good. i legit have no idea, but ..... tbl are usually on the sharper side of things (and the coyotes usually aren't), so
The Leafs got called for time and had to use a timeout for their pick, only to make a trade for picks with the Florida Panthers.
Every team has three minutes before having to make a selection. Usually when teams need more time, they need to call a timeout. But the clock showed 0 and the Leafs had still not made a pick.
No penalties are outlined in the NHL's CBA when it comes to any penalties or forfeiture of selection. Likely any decision in that regard would have come at the discretion of the league.
Chris Tanev to the Maple Leafs from Dallas!
Ah ya, they have to sign him.
Actually, now I am hearing that TB is chasing Guentzel, that’s interesting.
Utah getting Sergachev/Marino helps out their D, might squeeze into the playoffs this year.
Would love to see Tanev now go back and sign in Dallas after they were able to get something out of Toronto for the right to fail to sign him early.
there are only two teams with less than $4.3m in cap space right now
there is only one team that is over the salary cap right now
thats right, you guessed it, the team that just hired the capfriendly guy is currently $2.8m OVER the cap lol
also they were the 8th worst team by xg last season uh2ci
anyway, ovi goals go brrrrr etc

does anything in life bring you joy?
well, i was having a chuckle earlier about the team who hired the capfriendly guy being in about the worst spot in the league, but apparently thats wrong for some reason. so no, i guess not
As a sharks fan who has been beaten to death by being a sharks fan to the point where I haven’t put a second of thought in researching and following hockey in the last 4 years….
Do I have any reason to care next season?
if celebrini plays right away, it'll probably be worth checking a few games out. i doubt they'll be very good, but they probably won't be completely horrible. and there's a chance they're fun-bad. we'll know more after we see what happens with their $31m in cap space.
oh yeah, they got will smith on the way next year too. the #4 pick last year, was one of the top college players last season. yeah they'll probably be entertaining
Briere said that they traded down because Zeev was too similar to York and Drysdale. So, Drysdale can't stay healthy and York doesn't seem great. I have my doubts about Zeev, but I think this points to a potential big move next draft.

last year was so awful that i regularly tweeted my condolences to their beat reporter who was stuck covering them
their rebuild is not going well because they aren't replacing the veterans who aged out or are getting traded with exciting prospects but rather just filler - william eklund looks like he could become a decent player but not much else - however it's hard to look good surrounded by terrible players (why i'm so big on bedard because his linemates are all terrible) and the prospects they have in the pipeline are pretty good with most analysts putting them in the top 5 best farm systems
looks like it'll be at least another 1-2 years because i saw nothing on that squad which was good last year and they dumped some of the better parts as well and it's unlikely they sign enough free agents to bridge the gap
they do have a tremendous amount of cap space which i think they should use to take on a bunch of bad contracts (sharks are so bad those players would probably be upgrades for the roster anyway) - ie if i were gm of the sharks i'd be calling up teams like edmonton and asking them what they'll give me if i take on some of the contracts they don't want
also, luckily for sj, vlasic, who for a while was one of the worst contracts in the nhl and that really held them back when they were good, only has 2 years left now so should finally be off the books once they are ready to be good again and since they have so much cap space it's no longer really a problem
Guetzel heading to Tampa. The Florida advantage continues.
TB just acquired Guentzel’s signing rights for a 2025 3rd round pick, do they get a deal done before tomorrow?
