Lettuce NBA!
and lettuce lol @ James Harden
Shouldn’t Philly aim with klay too ?
So that three supposedly smart dudes (Bucks hedge fund team, Cuban, Wyc) looking to sell right before a supposedly sick media package + expansion fees coming onboard?
Suspicious.
Boston Celtics are for sale.
Klay to Mavs

Probably says more about the new CBA honestly. Boston is about as perfect a team as you can build and their window is almost exactly 1 more year. The 2nd apron really changed team construction in a massive way.
It's a sign-and-trade but I can't find the full details.

Mavericks receive: Klay Thompson
Warriors receive: TBD
The full details of the trade have not yet been revealed, but the Mavericks are reportedly trading Josh Green to the Hornets.
As a Celtics fan, this sale of the team is disturbing. Grousbeck was talking about paying whatever luxury tax was necessary to win championships. Now that seems gone.
The Derek White signing is excellent.
The only longterm roster problem I see the Celtics having is with their big men. Horford is old and may only play one more season (and should be coming off the bench). Porzingis has reignited his injury concerns and may not return until January after his recent surgery.
Brad Stevens still has some moves to make.
Very surprised that the Warriors wouldn't have offered Klay 18M a season.
So much for the Celtics owner saying he gets paid in parades*. Looks like he gets paid selling his team at it's pinnacle moment while dipping out the back door before paying +++++luxury tax and foregoing any future parades*.
Thoughts on Hartenstein:
I know losing Hartenstein is not optimal and yes Hartenstein > Mitch, although Mitch did a better job defending Embiid than Hartenstein did (until Embiid yanked at Mitch's legs FROM THE FLOOR on a non-basketball play, causing a season ending injury ----> Embiid is actually a dirtier player than Draymond if you look back at his career). Hartenstein is kind of like Jokic light with his DHO's and secondary/tertiary creation he provides. He's also very smart and not afraid to do the dirty work while never caring about his own stats.
He is certainly starting center caliber (dare I say Flat-Out Good!?), as is Mitch with his amazing o-reb % and stout defense. It was a luxury for the Knicks to have TWO starting caliber centers on the roster, but with the financial crunch (and Hartenstein getting the opportunity to show out last season as a starter while thriving in Thibs' system) it was impossible to retain Hartenstein. Money is green and he needed to take the OKC deal as it was a significant amount more. It's also a great situation he is joining, not like he signed up with the Wizards or anything (lol Valanciunas).
Kinda shocked to see that Warriors wouldn't beat that 3/50 offer. smells fishy to me
also josh green > klay at this stage no?
I think the Warriors agree, which was probably the source of the "tension."
I understand why Klay wanted to go to the Mavs. I'm a little less certain why the Mavs wanted Klay. At this stage of his career, Klay is not going to improve the Mavs' perimeter season. And on offense, he is just another guy to stand on the perimeter with this thumb up his ass while Luka and Kyrie try and create something out of nothing. On the plus side, Klay can still shoot the ball off the catch, especially if he doesn't have to move too much to get the ball.

Not much else they could do. He was like the 3rd-4th best FA and they got him relatively cheap at 3/50. It was pretty low risk.
Think Klay best fit would've been a team he can be the clear by far worst defender on like say OKC. Putting him out there with Luka and Kyrie on D just seems like you have cover up a lot. Kinda reminds me of when Mavs were a good defensive team in 2022 with meh personnel and then the next year regressed hard as their talent wasn't really to that level.
Sure Marshall will close a lot of games over him.

Is it? Isn't this TV deal the culmination of the last 12-13 yr trend of these teams being growth opportunities?
I don't think it has as much to do with the new CBA as it does that all the revenue drivers are finally priced in and its time to unload. Some other rich guy/gal will scoop it up anyway since there are more of them than ever.
But gambling, streaming, sports content demand, expansion fees, social media/tech growth....all that is basically priced in now

I'd guess some new rich owner is far more likely to be willing to eat luxury tax payments than a 20 year owner that just won a title. Atleast for the next few years which is all that matters with this core.
Look at Ishbia, Prokohorov, sure countless other examples. These guys are least frugal when it is their new toy.
Only thing I find weird about announcement is the timing, the champagne on the title isn't even dry yet. Seems like a weird time to announce you are unloading, unless they already have a buyer ready to go. Maybe Paul Pierce and some tech bro team up. He seems to be cogent these days.
Someone explain the PG situation from the Clips perspective to me.
They offer him a 3yr max but won't go 4. PHI offers him full 4yr max and he's gone for nothing. Why, if you're the Clips, don't you 1) trade him last year if you're not willing to offer him the full 4yr max anyway so you get something for him or 2) offer him the 4th year? Is that last year (which, yeah, will probably not be great) so ruinous that it's worth losing him for nothing??
Well you wouldn't trade him prematurely because they probably thought they had a very real chance to win the title last year. Sure it sounds absurd now but they were #2 in the West odds in early March after their 25-5 run post Harden trade.
No clue why they didn't go 4th year, seems like such a minor quibble after you're so pot committed to these guys. Maybe they figure after Kawhi's last injury was final straw and it is all over so just try to get Derozan to replace him and win 3 less games in the regular season but you don't really expect to compete for a title either way
5 yr / $314MM seems like a lot for a guy that can't even win finals MVP

I'm too lazy to look, but is late stage Klay even an upgrade over Tim Hardaway Jr?
