Let's talk about Stream and buy mountains of games
I thought we might like to have a Steam offers catch-all thread, and maybe even any general discussion about the service.
Like many of us here I have been using Steam since it first appeared with Half Life 2. Initially it seemed pointless and intrusive, but we put up with it because, well, we needed to play CS:S and HL2. Over the years I have found myself buying more and more from Steam and now I pretty much exclusively buy my games there. In fact Valve have so got their model sorted that I would pay a few dollars more for the ease of having it in my Steam collection rather than the hassle of hard copy install.
This is not really necessary though since these days if you wait around for offers you can end up owning more than you can ever play. I have Batman, Far Cry 2, Bioshock 2, Borderlands, Torchlight and much more just half played or not played at all. All of these have been purchased at a reduced rate.
Anyway rather than waffle on further the reason I started this thread is to point out
--->
Left 4 Dead was my game of 2008 but I had enough other stuff to play and was a bit pissed off that they released 2 so quickly afterwards that I didn't buy it at full price. Now I am immediately picking it up. Sadly for you hardened players you can expect a wave of n00bs to arrive due to this deal.
That is all, feel free to add any good Steam offers as and when they appear to this thread and also to discuss the Steam service in general.
Add South 2 Golden to the stumped list. Except I think I'm close.
I've Golden Door puzzles: West 1, West 3 and those damn South 2 and South 3 puzzles left.
Bought the Elden Ring expansion without realizing you have to complete tasks in the original to unlock. Very stupid of me to do so. I'm terribad at challenging games and will probably never access the DLC. ****ing waste.
i like the games where you basically work a spreadsheet but they hide that from you with graphical interfaces
civ 1-4 (5 was so bad that i never played 6)
football manager
crusader kings II & III
europa universalis IV
thoughts on stuff i should look for?
The games that got me into this genre were KOEI games. They still make Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Nobunaga's Ambition. Don't think the more recent ROTK games are as well received or translated from Japanese as well, but ROTK XI was very good. I like Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence, but haven't played the newer Awakening. Appears to be rated higher though.
Recently tried and liked Ozymandias which is a bit like a much faster format Civ.
You might also enjoy Age of Wonders games, Endless Legend or Endless Space 2, Warlock: Master of the Arcane, Total War games (? maybe not the combat, which you can automate, but for most people is the point). Popular ones I haven't played: Shadow Empire, Galactic Civilizations IV, Distant Worlds 2.
thanks for the rec, yeah i played a bunch of total war rome and loved it
also one of my big games as a kid that i forgot about which nobody seems to know ever existed is pax imperia
I'm thinking of picking up something this sale for a change (it's been actually a while) but I'm so torn between Elden Ring, Dave the Diver, Balatro, Brotato and Cult of the Lamb :O
Elden Ring was one of the games I had planned to pick up during this sale, but they're clearly riding the DLC-hype and not giving it much of a discount because of that, so I'll wait a while longer for that one.
Dave the diver is a no-brainer though, even at full price. Fantastic game.
I just retried S2 golden because I felt pressured by you but I noped out after 15 minutes, I'm satisfied despite skipping 2 with sparks 😃 Good luck, you'll get it 😀
I bumped up my wishlist and added a few. Maybe I'll just go crazy and buy some and buy a Steamdeck. I just have such little desire to pull out the Switch in comparison.
Tunic
Return of the Obra Dinn
Outer Wilds
Inscryption
Dave the Diver
Dredge
Terra Nil
Cult of the Lamb
Mullet Madjack
Removed a few base builders like Dyson Sphere, Oxygen Not Included, Satisfactory. I really want to get into those games but sometimes they don't hit for me, and they require such a time investment.
Tunic is so damn good.
Inscryption is absolutely elite and a must play for everybody.
I was also considering Inscryption but quickly realised it's a game that shouldn't be spoiled and not sure what to expect.
Steamdeck'ers, raise your hands. Good? Functions well? Battery life good enough? Which model to look at? I assume just go for OLED version, money's not a big concern. I assume most of the games I just listed are playable on handheld but I can double check that.
Part of my lack of desire to keep going on the Switch is the joysticks on my left joycon has some drift/sensitivity issues.
At the $8 that it's priced at now, I STRONGLY urge anybody that has not played the game to get it right now. Do not look anything up about it. Do not read any reviews.
It isn't on sale right now, but I also recommend SLICE & DICE. Surprised at how good this one has been.
I went to buy it and apparently own it already. Probably read a similar comment ITT before because I have no clue what it is.
I don't feel good playing Inscryption :O
