I realize that I am somewhat promiscuous in my love for the movies, but you are correct, this script was perfect from beginning to end.

New mastered 4k UHD

Not really about movies, but Jo Malone is releasing Orange Marmalade, a cologne inspired by Paddington Bear.

As some of you know, Paddington 2 was my favorite movie of 2017.

I would wear that

The Big Goodbye, a book about the making of Chinatown, is really interesting and really entertaining.

It is a really good script and great film, of course, but all the 'best script ever' nonsense is a bit over the top for me as a movie buff.

Can confirm.

"Perfect" and "best ever" are entirely different concepts. You can say perfect without being comparative to other movies. The Big Sleep had a perfect script and people love to tear it apart. Get Shorty? Perfect. Memento? Perfect.

Of course, everything I say about the movies is nonsense, so there is that.

I adore paddington 2 and was watching the unbearable weight of massive talent and they give it a huge shout out was pretty great.

well get shorty was absolutely both a perfect script and a perfect movie.

Criterion Channel is featuring popular adaptations of Shakespeare. One of the best known is Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho. Last night I watched Kenneth Branagh's Love's Labour's Lost.

It's musical adaptation. Branagh stages a number of song and dance numbers, using songs such as "Cheek to Cheek" and "The Way You Look Tonight." I've never read the play, but given the number of song and dance numbers, I'd estimate Shakespeare's play is cut down to about 45 minutes, but that's still enough time to get the gist of the play (at least for me).

If you have read a few of Shakespeare's comedies, you will get it. If you haven't, you might be confused. But even if you are confused, it's still a lot of fun. I plan on watching the rest of the featured adaptations.

I rewatched Gladiator the other night. I liked it a lot more this go around than the first time I saw it. Not sure why.

However, one "flaw" stuck in my craw.

There's this group of fighters that are seemingly invincible, taking on big roman dudes with chariots, tigers, and all manner of fighters outnumbering them. But they can't escape from the caravan hauling them around with like 10 or so not really armed men guarding them?

Paul Mazursky's Tempest, which apparently is based on Shakespeare's play, is downright terrible. I tried to make it through the entire film but couldn't. Just find another version of Shakespeare's last great play.

yeah, Tempest was not good

Have you seen the Ethan Hawke 90s corporate Hamlet? Or Ian McKellen's Nazi Richard? Obviously the best modern adaptation of Shakespeare in Ten Things I Hate About You. 😀

AINEC

Watching The Final Countdown from 1980, with Kirk Douglass, Martin Sheen, Ron O'Neal, Katherine Ross, James Farantino, and Charles Durning.

About a modern aircraft carrier out of Pearl Harbor that gets sucked back in time to Dec. 6, 1944. Do they let history happen? Dol they take on the Japanese Fleet thats about to attack?

It's not a good movie, but it is a fun one and a film I loved when I was a teen.

I will watch the Ethan Hawke one tomorrow. I've seen the Ricard III. I just watched Josh Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing. It's terrific. Beatrice and Benedick are the stars of the play, and I like it more than Branagh's version. Whedon filmed it at his home in B&W and it works.

I love Shakespeare's comedies. By the way, the "Nothing" in the title refers to the vagina.

It's useful to have a copy of Eric Partrige's Shakespeare's Bawdy available, especially for the comedies. I believe if students were made aware of the dirty bits in Shakespeare, they would like the plays more.

That's Keenan Wynn and James Whitmore.

Despite viewing these movies countless times, I have no idea what they are about. I think one problem I have with them is that I become so mesmerized by what is happening on the screen, and the Mad-Magazine-esque scenes going on in the background, that I neglect to watch the subtitles. As a result, I have to make up the story in my head as I go along.

But maybe we’re not supposed to know what is going on. Some of the greatest movies ever made. Check them out!

The Hollow Crown series is the way to go for adaptaions of Shakespeare's history plays.

Hollow Crown was fantastic.

10 things I hate about you is fantastic, larry miller is a comedic genius.
him and charles grodin so criminally underused and underappreciated.

Good! An excuse to reread my favorite comedy. I hope I still have my little Folger Paperback.
