2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
I can't help but think think that if this finally happens and Harris becomes the Democrat candidate, that her numbers start rising pretty quickly. Regardless of whether or not people consider her unlikable, or a lightweight, the bar of Donald Trump should be a pretty ****ing low to get over. I think almost any candidate other than Biden should bring a lot of people to the polls that were otherwise going to sit this one out. That's not to say I think she's a cinch to win; I've given up on predicting anything in the zany US election landscape. But I think she gives them a much better chance than what they have now, unless Biden were to have a miraculous recovery, which seems unlikely at this point.
Are there some truly fatal Harris flaws that I'm missing?
but she doesnt have dementia or genocide

Besides being a cackling psycho?
some more than others. but this is more about perception anyway. she can distance herself from this and bring back some of the more liberal anti-genocide people.
Right, but I figure that Trump's got the racist & sexist vote pretty locked up already. I suppose there could be a handful of them that dislike Trump enough to have voted for Biden, but I'd have to think that number is small.
I'm not sure what this is even supposed to mean. Seriously. I mean, the cackling bit is pretty simple - apparently you don't like the way she laughs. But psycho seems a bit of...an odd description.
Everything she says is complete word salad. She does bring the lols so +1 to her.
Apparently they are doing a little polling to see how she might do.
I dunno. D2 has a point for sure, but my guess is those folks that wouldn't ever vote for a woman, or woman of color, are already trumpers.
She comes across as a little snarky to me. That might be my bias though.
Sample size of one, but my niece (in her 20s) is very liberal but doesn't like biden at all. Too old and too....not sure. But she echoes a lot of twenty-somethings. Kamala might be successful at bringing some youth to the voting booths. Dunno.
It is still a no-brainer choice against trump.
Yeah man, she has totally lost it. I mean, remember when she stood up in front of a bunch of people and said this:
I say, ‘What would happen if the boat sank from its weight, and you’re in the boat, and you have this tremendously powerful battery, and the battery’s now underwater, and there’s a shark that’s approximately 10 yards over there?’
By the way, a lot of shark attacks lately, do you notice that? Lot of sharks. I watched some guys justifying it today: ‘Well they weren’t really that angry, they bit off the young lady’s leg because of the fact that they were not hungry but they misunderstood who she was.’ These people are crazy. He said, ‘There’s no problem with sharks, they just didn’t really understand a young woman swimming.’ No, really got decimated, and other people, too, a lot of shark attacks.
So I said, ‘There’s a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards, or here. Do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking, water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking? Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted, or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted?’ Because I will tell you, he didn’t know the answer.
He said, ‘You know, nobody’s ever asked me that question.’ I said, ‘I think it’s a good question. I think there’s a lot of electric current coming through that water.’ But you know what I’d do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted? I’ll take electrocution every single time. I’m not getting near the shark. So we’re going to end that, we’re going to end it for boats, we’re going to end it for trucks.
Oh, wait, that might have been someone else.
What can be unburdoned by what has been
The original quote was “When young children see someone who looks like them running for office they see themselves and what they can be, unburdened by what has been.”
But you know, being sincere is hard
Its so uniquely Republican to twist something empowering for colored individuals into a perceived incompetence for the black woman. You just can' wait to lap it up like you are dying of thirst and these guys piss is all that keeps you from dying
I find I'm having to check myself sometimes when it comes to the impression I get from female leaders. Not projecting this on to you or anyone else ITT, but there are times when a woman comes across negatively to me and I wonder if I'd feel the same way if it was a man expressing themselves the same way.

Is this quote actually a big deal to people? LOL if so. I mean, the end certainly could be stated in a more clear way like "no longer burdened by the past", but it's pretty clear what is meant and it sounds like a pretty good message to me.
I'd take that kind of "word salad" which is typical of a number of politicians (very flowery or excessively wordy) over Trump's word salad which is him wandering off on to some bizarre tangent that no one can make any sense of. And I think voters would feel the same way.

A video edited to show her repeating the awkward end of the sentence out of context over and over has been making the rounds the last few days.
team Biden vs team Dem power structure is definitely a staredown for the ages
I doubt he has the swagger to buck his entire party the way Trump would, just doesn't seem built for that life
Yeah, companies don't do well when corporate tax rates go down because then they end up having to keep more of the money that they earn and they can't figure out what to do with it. Companies also hate when repubs cut business regulation because then they don't have to pay more money to jump through hoops.
Agreed. Also it is extremely simply minded to look at how the stock market or the economy performs from day 1 of when a president takes over to his last day and give him credit/blame for what
This is not true
One metric will go down.
We judge companies based on how much profit they make. If you make more profit then you did better than if you made less. Having less taxes = making more profit. That means you did better than if you made less profit.
It takes 2-4 years to feel most economic policies
Vance surging on PI....Seems dumb to go with a MAGA type carnival barker senator when Trump is top of the ticket

My guess is, Jill will have a huge influence on his decision and my other guess is she can see the writing on the wall. Pure speculation on my part.

This is all very true and infuriates me to no end. The reality of my posts comes from a place of being a falsely imprisoned sexual minority who grew up around hard scrabble texans and kansansAnd lived a very crazy life. But nerdy guys on the internet dismiss my posts as “snarky” , “overly emotional” “entitled” etc etc without actually thinking about the social dynamics involved in my posts, or any of the actual content on my posts. Usually, it’s projection from an overly emotional sheltered guy who wants to “ teach me a lesson” based on me disagreeing with their point that they *know* is objective truth only because they cant see other peoples points of view. So, you should check your biases and try really hard to truly empathise with other people.
Having said all that, and im pro-kamala , if enough people for various reasons dislike her she would be a bad candidate. On a personal level I dont get all the screeching about her being unlikeable or whatever.
Calling guys nerdy as a girl is cringe
Assuming you’re a girl

is this the best they got? ouch
