2024 ELECTION THREAD
The next presidential race will be here soon! Please see current Bovada odds. Thoughts?
A mentally incapable man being sheltered from the public for a number of years while allegedly still running the country is the true crime against democracy. Imagine he wins again and serves out the full 2nd term. That would mean for 6 years the President of the United States was a vegetable. Democracy it it's finest.

At least he's probably not actually the one in charge of anything important behind the scenes. You want to put the real lunatic in charge of the whole asyslum.
So he's just a figurehead? Is that the role of the commander-in-chief?
Hey man, I'm all for the dems running a different candidate. I'm just pointing out that saying the current guy is a passive vegetable while supporting the guy who is just as / even more demented but would actually be making decisions doesn't make sense.

I guess to me I feel GOP is more transparent. You can vote for this crazy lunatic. You know you'll be in for a wild ride.
Whereas Dems are like vote for Biden, he's the best. Been at this his whole life. Really commands the room. Sharp as a tack. But behind closed doors he's actually a vegetable, and other lesserknowns actually run the show.

Right. So you'd rather the lunatic run the show. For the lols. We know.

That's pretty much how it's always been. No 1 person can run this beast. And we know from people trump interviewed for VP last time he was delegating that role to actually 'running things' while he focused on marketing--just like what he was already used to doing.
Sleepy Joe woke up! His voice was booming compared to all the mumbling and dribbling lately. That speech, taken on its own, felt and looked like a winning candidate. The speech had a great line that needs to become a refrain in his campaign if it continues (and my hot take now is it will continue).
So I am going to modify the line a bit and take input anybody has. Something like this:
"I am here for two reasons. One: American values must prevail. And, two, DONALD TRUMP IS A LOSER!!"
So beautiful. So grating on Trump. So true. So poignant. So sloganish. So campaignish.
Well I must admit I just had to look up qualifications for VP on the conspiracy theory that Trump might pick one of his sons or other family member.
Joe still had those moments, especially when not speaking, when he stares emptily into space with that old folks home look. Can't overlook that in the great campaigning tonight.
I didn't say that, and I don't know what the polls say. I guess I'm waiting for someone (who is not you or horsenutlow) to explain like I'm 5 why he hasn't been replaced yet.
Because an incumbent president always has better odds in an election than anyone else. That being said, we are in new territory here.
Also in the anyone but Trump camp. I’d rather have Bidens handlers than Trumps grifters any day.
Except that it isnÂ’t just worse policy. WeÂ’re talking about such fundamental changes to our country that there may not be an opportunity to vote again.
Democracy is long dead. As I've pointed out often enough that it is surely very annoying, 27 million American workers have no vacation or holidays. We're the only rich country like that. If Dems wanted to "save democracy" they could have guaranteed 27 million people at least a week of Biden-cation and cruised to victory. They would prefer to lose than to give us even that small concession. So I guess they aren't nearly as worried about Trump as you are.
To "save democracy" they rig their own primaries because their purpose make sure the public have no significant representation. They would VASTLY prefer Trump to universal HC, even just for children. Thousands a year must die for their donors. Non-negotiable.
Because they rigged their primaries, we got 12 years of Biden (unless he is swapped) /Trump. 12 years of inaction on climate. 12 more graduating classes, buried in debt. Roughly 120,000 more dead for lack of HC. It goes on and on.
I mean, yeah, you can vote. But you can't vote for anyone who will represent you.
If Trump actually does cancel elections and stuff, maybe that will provide the opportunity to re-establish some semblance of democracy.
Stealing this from over on Unstuck.
He’s saying maybe Trump gives us the hard reset necessary to have a political system with more than 2 corrupt parties
