WNBA 2024
angel reese is giving Caitlin Clark a run for rookie of the year
so this is the NY crowd going crazy for Chicago sky player angel Reese getting her 10th rebound in the final minutes.
ugh here we go again....
the NY fans were cheering Reese getting her 2nd foul late in the game and sending Kayla Thornton to the line.
U really think NYers are cheering for Reese? Help McLovin!!!!
and i genuinely would have agreed with this statement 10 years ago, that a wnba couldn't beat a state champs hs team
but i don't think that's true anymore, the last few years the women's game has really progressed
caitlin may be at the forefront, but as reese and others also show, the game is rapidly improving
I don't disagree that it has progressed, but I still would back the truck up on the HS boys from any state with a reasonable population base (not the Hickory size schools). Still feel the athletic difference is too much, higher verticals, faster, probably taller on average, etc.

now i'll be the first to admit i don't watch much youth basketball

they'd still lose to a college team, but i don't think they'd lose to a hs team anymore - at least it'd be very competitive
Ridiculous take. State champ teams usually have multiple d1 4/5 star prospects . Just lol thinking that team would not crush the Chicago Sky
lololololololololol
Feves getting a lot of juice from the home crowd to run out a double digit lead
Fever went up 30 at one point in the 3rd and the other team switched to zone. Fever were struggling to score so they tried to run a PnR...against a zone. Lol coaching
Yeah the Fever coach (Christie Sides I think is her name) seems pretty bad. They have the last two #1 picks and are still struggling to make the playoffs (8/12 teams!) although they are definitely getting better in the last couple of weeks.
They seem unable to run plays that get Clark open. Yes defenses are keying on her I get that. But her FGA and 3PA are both way down from college not just her scoring which is also down. But she has become an assist machine. She struggles to make her own shot and needs to get better at moving without the ball imo.
CC is second in the league with 7.8 assists a game. and it seems like if her teammates could handle her awesome passes she'd be averaging 10 a game.
so this is the NY crowd going crazy for Chicago sky player angel Reese getting her 10th rebound in the final minutes. look at that crowd. angel Reese was totally right when she said people are not watching JUST for Caitlin Clark. "they are watching for me too, and a lot of other players"
I mean it's objectively true. and she got so much flack for saying it
Damn, that crowd's pretty crazy. I thought it was just CC that was attracting sellouts. Is Reese a draw too or are sellouts (or near sellouts) common for a lot of teams this year?

last i read, league revenue was up 400% so it's not simply just when and where cc is playing
could potentially be the first year the league turns a profit
I thought they were still on pace to lose $50m largely due to chartered flight added cost. New media deal will likely be the boost that makes it profitable.
Attendance is up, Reese is a draw too. As was Brink when she was going, etc. This was her first 'big' sellout game on the road. Previous matchup with Liberty was like 12k+. So the demand isn't quite there for it to be regular thing just yet.
Revenue is up but yeah they're still losing 50m a year.
holy schnikes, my data is way off then because i read the nba gave them 15 million a year to cover expenses - maybe that was per team?
50M is near the yearly operating income for some teams. Not a rounding error at all. https://www.forbes.com/lists/nba-valuati...
Two years of Immanuel Quickley
Referees didn't get the memo to help Reese get 10 pts.
that was some really bad officiating. 3 technical fouls on chicago. they were so frustrated.
amazing that chennedy Carter didn't get one.
16 rebounds for reese though
she's looked a lot worse the last few games. I wonder if the pressure of the streak was getting to her. maybe she'll relax and play better now.
hopefully it's not the pressure of the WNBA and the spotlight
the liberty were NOT letting angel get that double double in garbage time.
she probably would have got it if the refs had made good calls. but tbf, she also just flat out missed a bunch of shots she should have made
