Fun Player's Guide to the Galaxy
Well let's see.... I'm here, but not quite sure what I'm doing here.
I mean I don't feel drunk.
I thought 7/9 would be a fitting date to mark the start point of whatever this will be. 79 being my favorite hand and all. Yes one thing you should know about fun players is that we all have our favorite hand. Usually it ties back to some big pot you won from playing badly and running godly. For me that hand is 7♠9♠
I guess the purpose of this thread is to provide me an outlet to post random updates related to poker.
I haven't played a whole lot in recent years due to time constraints. Live poker is just so time consuming. But I have managed to fit in 1 or 2 tourneys a year and the occassional cash session once a month or so. Not much to write home about. I min cashed some $1100 event last summer and am up a fair amount in the limited cash I've played.
I also play some online, but options for Americans are pretty crappy. I mostly play 100NL 6 max on ignition and some of their tourneys once in awhile. I recently checked out Bet Online and have dabbled in 50NL 6max. The player pool is super small. There seems to be like maybe 10 regs and a handful of random weaker players. At peak hrs there are maybe 4 tables going. I play without a HUD so I'm only 1 or 2 tabling anyways.
I plan on playing the Monster Stack again next year, but will also schedule time so I can play the ME as well. It would be nice to subsidize that with my cash play. So I guess the main goal/challenge is to make $11,500 within about 150hrs of play.
And the side quest will be to make a good showing in the tourneys.
As for where my game is at: Though I've played relatively little, I've actually studied quite a bit. My thoughts on the game in both cash and tournaments has changed quite dramatically over the last few years. I feel my tournament fundamentals have become more solid, but I still find myself Selbsting off my stack near every money bubble. This is one thing I've never bothered to fix. I think it's time now to stop that and see what it does for my results.
For this month I can probably fit in one cash session and I will also be playing a $1650 at the end of the month.
For cash I typically play 2/5 and 5/10.

Wow. Legit had probably one of the sickest bad runs in the past 3 days that I can ever remember in my entire life. This counts all the hell at Ignition.

my worst run ever over about a 2 week period playing live in macau and is a period of my life i can barely remember - it's like i blacked most of it out
was so deep in the emotional black hole that i genuinely forget both about my birthday and a us presidential election (was abroad and solo so obviously easier to be out of sight out of mind)
when i got home i legit slept about 30 hours straight and continued sleeping about 16 hours a day for next few days
took a long break from poker (luckily wasn't playing for a living then so losing that income stream was not a big financial hit)
once i came to, i realized just how little of the time i remembered, when i went through my phone's camera roll and chat history it was all these pictures and conversations i didn't recall ever happening
it's important to note, i was neither drinking nor taking drugs on that trip so it's not like i was on a bender - each day i believed myself to be clear headed and focused and ready to battle
to this day i don't know if my brain just decided to repress that awful trip from my memory or something else was going on and hence why i was so bad at poker
but yeah, waking up in your hotel room, realizing you missed your flight and then you go online to book another and before you load up the ticket site you see on the landing page news about the new president and then you realize "oh yeah that happened" and then you look at the date and realize yesterday was your birthday - that's quite the surreal experience

Most of the hands are not interesting. It's more the collective outcome of them. Apparently the stars aligned perfectly not in my favor.
Don't get me wrong I tilt punted a good 20 buy ins, but it was still pretty horrific to get the money in on the turn as a 95% favorite and losing for the 8th time in a row just that day. And have it continue the next day and the next.
The bright side is the money lost is basically the profits I made the past 6 months and in either case wasn't life impacting.
Just hits hard when you lose it in such a compressed amount of time in an unbelievable way.
This was me running hot. The rare time I get lucky and don't lose the pot.

No this is not some montage I pulled together from the past year. These were all from today and yesterday in basically 2 different sessions.
This is on top of the death run I already had. I know I sound crazy, but at this point I'm just convinced there's some curse or whatever the F on my account. I just don't see how I can just keep losing like 20 flips in a row and every 95/5 spot endlessly and only getting the bad side of KK vs AA and set over sets, etc.
But yeah after I grind this last 1k points I'm done w/ ACR.
Then you got this dude that calls a 5bet jam pf. Not sure how many of these I've lost, but I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've won this spot.
