WNBA 2024
angel reese is giving Caitlin Clark a run for rookie of the year
just like how Barbie doll has a bunch of different versions... Malibu barbie, corporate barbie, sporty Barbie, or whatever.
angel Reese also has different versions of Barbie, league Barbie, chitown Barbie, bayou Barbie... I think I heard a couple others, but don't remember what they are
yeah if you watch a fever game it's very apparent that if clark had better teamates she'd have a few fewer tos and quite a bit more assists
it's just heartbreaking seeing her find the pass to someone wide open and then teammate is literally not even expecting a pass because they are too used to playing on last year's fever so it goes out of bounds (but clark gets the TO credit) or the do expect it and get it but then miss an uncontested layup
yeah it is sad when she makes a great pass, and the receiver can't handle it. hopefully her teammates get better and better at handling these passes, and converting them.
it might even be costing her as much as 2 assists a game! and 2 turnovers a game! probably not that much, but it's significant
Sure, and twitter is "X".
Anyway, with a whole month off, the WNBAers who aren't in the Olympics ought to be well rested when the season resumes. McMuffin, time to make your move!
the schedules are especially tough on the rookies cuz they have to come in and play a full season of pro right after finishing a full season of college. no rest.
idk if this is the case, but I'd guess that sophomore pros are much better than rookie pros cuz of finally getting a chance to rest
This narrativization is insane. Youd swear she’s playing with mentally handicapped youth who punt all her passes out of bounds. The Fever are an average WNBA team.

yeah it's pretty absurd
looking at her numbers, she was clearly a great passer from the start (led the ncaa in assists the last 3 seasons)
but now seeing her at the wnba level, i almost feel like she was misunderstood as a player in college and she's much more a steve nash type point guard who is an elite distributor that can also score instead of the steph curry point guard who is mostly an elite shooter and can also play point guard

yeah idk. it will be interesting to see how it develops.
I just saw on Twitter that she scored 60 points one game in high school.
my guess is her passing is just amazing. and her shooting is just amazing. like she could be the best passer ever and the best shooter ever.
I haven't really watched basketball in a long time. this +/- points thing is new to me. but angel Reese +26 here is insane, right?
also the sky were projected to finish last in the league this year. and right now they're in a playoff spot.
that's probably cuz of great coaching from weatherspoon. and from great play, mostly from angel Reese and chennedy Carter

+/- has a lot of problems - hence why it's not leaned on too heavily
and even if it weren't so lineup and game state dependent there's a ton of variance involved - ie if you look at a bad team, the non-rotation guys nearly always have better +/- than their much more skilled teammates simply because they tend to see court time once the game is out of hand and it's a well known phenomenon in basketball where a team losing heavily is going to outperform the other team significantly
if angel was in there with mostly other starters facing off vs the second unit that could account for a lot of that +26
but having said all of that, it is pretty impressive
thanks Rick 👍
a good way to look at the rotation flaws of +/- is let's say i'm playing a game of 2 on 2 and it's me and lebron & luka on one team and then 3 randos we found at the court who agreed to play us
assuming there's zero variance and we will consistenly score 2 more points than them per minute when I'm on the court vs +5 points per minute when I'm not and it's the 2 nba players
but in our coaches infinite wisdom, i get played the entire game and lebron and luka are given limited minutes to stay fresh for the next game and as a result I play every minute and they split the other minutes
when you look at the numbers at the end of the game - i'm going to have an incredibly impressive +/- compared to those 2 nba players despite that for most of the game i just stood there watching my teammate do everything by himself
but again, that's a terrible example for good reason - why angel could have certaintly hit some good variance with the rotation and game state of the day, her +26 is still incredibly impressive even if it can't be used as a sole metric
but now seeing her at the wnba level, i almost feel like she was misunderstood as a player in college and she's much more a steve nash type point guard who is an elite distributor that can also score instead of the steph curry point guard who is mostly an elite shooter and can also play point guard
She had Kate Martin in college to lean on, dunno if that was by design or not.
Rough day for Mens and Women's USA national teams
When CC and Reese team up they can NOT be stopped.
loving that team usa lost to the leftovers
The WNBA all-stars would win the Gold Medal by 25 points per game
so sad cameron wasn't on the wnba all stars
would love to have seen her on the court with cc and angel
Reese will never fix her mechanics and will be awful on offense but also a big enough star to get a max contract
If you can get her at role player salary and convince to only shoot 5 times then sure
Clark needs a 4 that can shoot from 4ft+
Funnily, van Lith’s only chance is to learn to do Brunson things.
