Caesars Poker Room to close for remodeling? mid July
Played today and the word going around is the rooms closing for remodeling. Not sure on the date of closing (heard maybe July 16) or reopening, but one of the dealers did say they offered to give him a job in Laughlin in the meanwhile.
If it does close hopefully it does actually reopen and not just disappear.
One of head guys over there said he talked to a higher up and seemed quite confident it was coming back
You do realize this is not about putting in more slots.
The current story is they are updating the high limit slot area so they need space for these current high limit slots, not more, not new until the remodel is done. Then the poker room reopens.
So while your understanding of casino econs was incorrect, so is your understanding of this situation.
You managed be wrong twice only using three words.
Of course i realize that. That was my point. I feel like every time this topic comes up I see comments like “Casinos should get rid of the poker room so they can make more money off of machines” and I saw a couple of comments like that in this thread. But I’ve seen casinos close down rooms and not add a single machine.

Don’t see how it’s any worse than you being wrong about masks, shutdowns and Covid.

Since my positions on those items change over time with the evidence, would be interesting which ones you consider wrong. I would be more than willing to debate current position we disagree on for that topic, but iirc such discussions were isolated to a containment thread. And this is not that thread. Sorry you wasted your time digging through hundreds of my posts from years ago.
Judging by El Dorado’s previous attitude toward poker in the past, Caesar’s poker room fate is still undecided imo. I heard similar guarantees when it came to Planet Hollywood and to a lesser extent Flamingo…we see the result. Rio room was kind of a guarantee of closing after Covid.
So, even though mid-management is saying Caesar’s will definitely reopen, there are executives higher than them who have ultimate say. And based on El Dorado’s dollar per square foot method of operation, and understanding spread sheets and not the overall benefits of having a poker room…if I was a Caesar’s poker room employee, I would be making preparations. I guess time will tell the tale.
RIP Caesars Poker Room. It's officially "temporarily" closed now for high limit slots renovation. I don't care what Caesars says, it's a coin toss whether it will reopen or not.
The room was getting a lot less business recently, I think ever since the rake increase.
They will not re-open
characterizing those Caesars Regulars as 'Grinders' is an affront to everything I stand for.
Do any of you local guys know if Mandalay Bay have also closed their poker room in the last few days?
Someone wrote in a YouTube comment that it was "just recently closed". I also see on Bravo that it's greyed out the same way that Caesars is - indicating they are not running any updates for it.
The Mandalay Bay poker room isn't 24/7, so you might have been looking at a time it was closed.
It's showing on Bravo as open right now, with one game going. If you look on Bravo you can see their hours of operation.

Yes, good point 😀 I actually thought they had switched to 24/7 recently, but there is probably not quite enough traffic to justify that. And I see it's active now on Bravo, like you said.
Not that it's an amazing room or anything like that, but I think that triangle of MB, Luxor and Excalibur should have at least one poker option.

Their hours of operation are listed on Bravo. Is it really that difficult for you to look it up?
They did recently switch to 24hrs but not 7 days a week. They don’t close on the weekends Thu-Sun but they do close at 4am the rest of the week and still closed on
Tuesdays.

Especially when Excal used to have a very busy room and thriving 1/2.
Agree it would be nice to have a room on the south strip to compete with MGM. Orleans is too far off strip. Maybe the new Ballys but that is years away. Problem is that everything else down at that end is all MGM props and I don’t see MGM PLACING A 3rd room down there to compete against themselves.
So the choice would be to close MGM, but that is unlikely even given the rooms significant decline imo. Or close MBay room and move to Excal or similar. But even with its small size and stakes, MBay has a unique and positive vibe.
Do I wish it was more on strip? Not for me, no. As we often stay at MBay, a room there is convenient. But still not really a strip room.
Mandalay Bay's proximity to the football stadium is reason enough to place a room there instead of having one at Luxor or Excalibur. Sure, Allegiant doesn't have tons of events there, but it's still a bigger draw than pretty much anything at the other two places.

bay had the best 1-3 NL games for the past couple years during football season.
easy peasy games.
Your opinion doesn't make it common sense.
Poker is one of the lowest money makers for casinos (the overhead is brutal), it is even worse when calculated on a per square foot basis. I am sure the shops selling overpriced drinks from coolers and tourist t-shirts make more on a per square basis.
Adding just a few slot machines make more money on a per square foot basis even though there are already dozens of slot machines not in use in the casino. The reason is that slot machine players like to be able to easily switch machines and do not want to feel overcrowded and packed in. So even though a casino will have less than 50% of their machines in use, they will still make more money overall by adding more slots in an area that did not previously have slots.
The benefits of a poker room to a casino are highly intangible, and hard to measure. For most casinos it probably is not worth it unless it is a premiere poker room like the Bellagio, Aria, Wynn, or Venetian.
Also, this is regarding Vegas. For regional casinos with lesser competition, the calculus changes as poker might bring in players who wouldn't otherwise visit the casino.
